To think people genuinely hate England?

Is anyone else sick of seeing the anger/hatred towards England in the World Cup? This 'anyone but england' mentality from almost every other country is disheartening honestly. I've seen every excuse under the sun, we haven't played a proper team yet, 200,000 signatures to re-play the Colombia match because apparently that wasn't fair, blaming a few rowdy fans for not wanting England to win. I'm especially surprised by the amount of Scottish/Irish/Welsh people who seem to feel like this (on social media) i know we'd so be routing for our neighbours if it was the other way round! So... AIBU to think everyone just friggin hates England?!

But wittering on that that hat trick was anything other than luck (which the man himself admitted while laughing!)

Where you watching this? Grin

IcedPurple · 09/07/2018 12:53

Yours, which is made up! I didn’t say he was arrogant, but at least he can fucking take a joke and have a laugh unlike you!

My point is that his humility rather goes against the sterotype -repeated over and over here - that the English and particularly English football types are 'arrogant'.

But wittering on that that hat trick was anything other than luck (which the man himself admitted while laughing!) just means you know fuck all about football

"Anything other than luck"?

Really?

So you could have picked anyone out of the crowd and they could have attained that hat trick just as easily?

Yes, luck was involved as it almost always is. But a hat trick is a hat trick. And this constant nit-picking and downplaying of England's success is hard to interpret as anything other than jealousy and bitterness.

I'm not normally one to attribute behaviour to such motives, but it's becoming increasingly hard to come to any other conclusion here.

SoddingUnicorns · 09/07/2018 12:57

Oh off the cross we need the wood

When have I called anyone arrogant? When have I slated Harry Kane?

Seriously, you need a lie down. Your anger is not only misdirected, it’s misinformed.

Absolutely laughable.

theymademejoin · 09/07/2018 13:01

@LucilleBluth - Also as a working class northerner my ancestors were not responsible for empire

Maybe have a look at the conduct of the likes of the Black and Tans. They were predominantly working class.

Without the working class, the empire would not have been possible.

rosesandflowers1 · 09/07/2018 13:01

Sorry but you can't come back from 'my husband has an enormous salary', however you try to spin it onto me

As a lone comment, braggy and tacky.

When it's pertinent, it's not.

Trying to prove that you are also rich in a weird type of oneupmanship, braggy and tacky. End of.

I won't engage in your nasty misogynistic insecurity at this stage - I have bigger things to worry about.

rosesandflowers1 · 09/07/2018 13:06

I think some people are very materialistic and value goods and objects over love and affection and spending time with their family. Says more about them really.

Maybe so Sad

It's very unfortunate. Don't get ke wrong, I hate the concept that working mothers can't have a relationship with their children, but the horrible attitudes to SAHM are shocking.

In many cases it's misogyny. If you want to be respected, then be "like a man" - if not, anything goes and I can say my vile comments are because of feminism!

If not, it's insecurity and the need to put down other women to make yourself look better.

I think the nasty poster here was a sad mix of both.

2up2manydown · 09/07/2018 13:08

What a horrible, depressing thread.

All these people from other countries living in the UK, enjoying its peace, safety, justice and welfare yet bitching and trashing its citizens.

All these people in other countries with Mumsnet accounts so they can chat with a majority English forum yet as soon as there’s a chance to pile on and attack the English, they’re cocked and loaded.

Jealousy and bitterness.

Lweji · 09/07/2018 13:08

Everyone in Qatar is rooting for England. No nastiness apart from our own people, the boring Scottish thing.

SoddingUnicorns · 09/07/2018 13:12

All these people from other countries living in the UK, enjoying its peace, safety, justice and welfare yet bitching and trashing its citizens

Where?

JJS888 · 09/07/2018 13:15

Why fuck off? What is then? It's a British business that exploits bored middle aged mums by selling advertising space (in UK) in return for people's inner most feelings and problems being sold to national newspapers . It's not a race or a species for fucks sake!

DeltaG · 09/07/2018 13:15

@rosesandflowers1

You tell yourself that if it makes you feel better. I'm neither. I can't take anything you say seriously now anyway since I've realised you're also the same poster who started those ridiculous threads about your DH's work 'brunches'. As many people pointed out to you, your DH was being shockingly misogynistic and abusive, yet all you could do was come up with excuses for his behaviour.

2up2manydown · 09/07/2018 13:15

soddingunicorns

I said majority English. Do you think that’s false?

2up2manydown · 09/07/2018 13:16

Maybe read posts carefully before you respond so rudely.

ginghambox · 09/07/2018 13:17

You could have put a warning that James fucking Corden was in that clipSmile

gamerwidow · 09/07/2018 13:18

What has englands colonial history got to do with a football tournament?! Do we not want Germany to win because of Hitler 🙄
Did you miss the front pages of the uk papers gloating when Germany went out.
The British love it when our neighbours do badly. Stop being so humourless about it.

topcat1980 · 09/07/2018 13:21

"All these people from other countries living in the UK, enjoying its peace, safety, justice and welfare yet bitching and trashing its citizens"

Not seen any of this.

What I do see is yet another attempt to make a powerful majority feel like an oppressed minority.

RoseWhiteTips · 09/07/2018 13:23

Is England a terrier trying to bite its own tail?
Answers on a postage stamp!
😂

RoseWhiteTips · 09/07/2018 13:24

A powerful majority? Delusional 😜

derxa · 09/07/2018 13:27

To digress - these days it seems it is the Young Farmers who cause that sort of mayhem in the town. Oh give over.

IfNot · 09/07/2018 13:31

Well the Vikings took our country for a couple of centuries, and we don't hold it against them.

I do. Horn wearing bastards.

rosesandflowers1 · 09/07/2018 13:31

As many people pointed out to you, your DH was being shockingly misogynistic and abusive, yet all you could do was come up with excuses for his behaviour.

"Realised" my arse, if you'll pardon me ... did you search up my name to try and find ammo? Grin

In any case, bringing up my (sorted) marital issues to prove my point in an unrelated discussion only further paints you as vile, classless and cruel. Not to mention in the wrong.

I can only hope you find some sense of self worth and security somewhere. Clearly your all-important job hasn't given it to you!
