To ask this man if this child is his daughter?

I just saw a man carrying a child (she 3-4) against her will. She was throwing a tantrum and trying to free herself. It would seem like a normal scene if you have kids, but I could not help but think the worst, so I followed them and ask him if he was her dad. He stopped (good sign) looked at me and when he realised what I was thinking, told me to not be ridiculous. I asked the child directly if that was her dad, but she kept on crying. Then they wen off and he continue to carry her against her will. I watched them for a bit and took a picture of them just in case. Please tell me I'm not a total nutter and what would you have done or what to do if something like this happens.

The girl didn't have any shoes on and they were crossing Kentish Town high street.

*knowledge of the class system, that should be.

A bit too much sun today Grin

"Do you still maintain 'chavs' are more likely to assume abduction?"

Yes, absolutely. 2/3 of children in fatherless families among this demographic quite obviously interacts with how women in that demographic perceive men.

The problem with the white English is that they've been pandered to for so long than they get upset when they are asked to be rational. It's like Brexit, it's all about their "belief" not about the reasonableness of that belief. People need to be told that acting honestly is not a mitigant for acting stupidly.

HellenaHandbasket · 11/07/2018 19:13

I'm not entirely sure why you think overt racism is helping your cause here.

And yes, I'm aware that racism implies a systemic disadvantage and as such white people cannot technically be victims of racism, but your intention is certainly racist.

That wasn't the question. Of course it affects how they perceive men, but I presented you with a case where your assertion was false. You asserted that chavs would perceive men as abductors in a way that others NEVER could and I presented you with an example where perception was far greater influenced by factors beyond class, and in a way that both would likely interpret the same.

I'm giving you rational arguments, you're struggling to accept them.
I put it to you, that you're making sweeping generalisations in an irrational manner.
'The white English' is not some homogenous mass. It's a very eclectic mix. They neither think. nor believe, nor act in the same manner.

Are the Royal Family white English?

TornFromTheInside · 11/07/2018 19:27

I think they may have left the building

Timeisslippingaway · 11/07/2018 19:28

Mormontsraven,

Why don't you emigrate then? You seem to have some very strong opinions about white English people. Why do you chose to live here?

IAmLurkacus · 11/07/2018 19:28

I think they were escorted!

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 11/07/2018 21:56

Mormontsraven my family's lifestyle? You mean not being allowed to work longer hours for higher wages because then we'd be homeless because we wouldn't get housing benefit? You mean having to live on £10 less a week because our landlord's put the rent up and the council are refusing to pay the difference? You mean facing the very real fear that we may be homeless next year? Oh yes, thank very much. Hmm

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 11/07/2018 22:15

Mormontsraven DH was a decorator most of his working life, the council gave him an ultimatum to give up his business and claim JSA because he "wasn't earning enough to support his family". He applied for the first job he saw, part time caretaker on a housing estate. He works 20 hours a week at the age of 64, cleaning 6 blocks, tending the gardens and doing any maintenance that needs doing. He couldn't physically do any more. As a couple, we can only work 30 hours a week or our WTC gets cut. I don't know anywhere that would only employ me for 10 hours a week.

TornFromTheInside · 11/07/2018 22:19

He's gone (for now)
Turned out he was banned before. A goader I think.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 11/07/2018 22:22

Does that mean I can call him a prick now? 😂

TornFromTheInside · 11/07/2018 22:24

Nope.

It means we all can!

Timeisslippingaway · 11/07/2018 22:51

Mormontsraven

^ PRICK!! 😂

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 12/07/2018 06:24

😂

TornFromTheInside · 12/07/2018 07:19

Chavs 1 : 0 Prick

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 12/07/2018 10:33

Now there's a result we're all happy about! 😂

Goth237 · 12/07/2018 16:02

YABU. If that was a woman I can guarantee that you wouldn't go up and ask. Children become unruly and they fight and refuse to walk. What are you supposed to do? I think what you did was rude.
