Based on the fact that football players of all nationalities seem to yell 'FUCCCCK' an awful lot. Grin

I used to collect foreign swear words, aided and abetted by my teen granddaughter.
In Italian, stronzo means asshole. It's to be shouted if an Italian man hassles you.
In Polish, I know how to say, 'May God shit on your prostitute mother.'
This doesn't sit right with me, but it's up my sleeve, so to speak. I think perhaps Polish men are too polite to hassle women. I do hope so.

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 06/07/2018 21:38

I can tell someone to fuck off in polish and call them what loosely translates to cunt.

kitkatsky · 06/07/2018 21:42

YAB so U! I didn't know what swearing was til I spent a year living in Spain with a Spanish dude who used to call his dad and say hey Hairy ball sack and the dad used to reply hey wanking bastard and they'd carry ok for ages (in Spanish!) I once tried to appear surprised and he said was just normal. I have a mega list of Spanish insults fwiw if you need proof that they were swearier than most!

condepetie · 06/07/2018 21:42

^ Kurwa is the best multipurpose swear word, anything or anyone bad can get a kurwa.

Russian's сука блять (suka blyat) is also very satisfying.

UtterlyDesperate · 06/07/2018 21:46

Russian and Arabic have some bloody awesome ones Grin

Hoppinggreen · 06/07/2018 21:49

We swear in Spanish all the time, especially like Puta and cono- especially since they aren’t really very rude in Spain.
I always say scheisse rather than shit as well

RoboticSealpup · 06/07/2018 21:54

I always say scheisse rather than shit as well
Me too and I don't even speak German. Such a good swearword!

Babybearsporij · 06/07/2018 22:09

I know some Greek swears. They're not brilliant to say though. Malaka and yamoto.

NormskiNamechange · 06/07/2018 22:12

I’m sorry but I love the idea of father and son calling each other wanking bastard! 😂😂

kitkatsky · 06/07/2018 22:19

@NormskiNamechange it totes happened! Was 12 yrs ago so no recordings, but even as a relatively swearu student I'd listen with interest! That pair have taught me at least 85% of my Spanish swear words

DoJo · 06/07/2018 22:21

In Dutch, most of the swear words appear to be quite horrific in as much as you would wish cancer quite casually on someone who has annoyed you. Fuck is a really good one though - I sometimes struggle to stop it slipping out in front of the kids...

Ofthread · 06/07/2018 22:22

Yep, Dutch is really full on.

LadyCassandra · 06/07/2018 22:24

Babybearsporij I don’t know, Malaka rolls off my tongue quite easily! Grin

banivani · 06/07/2018 22:33

Nope other languages have good swears BUT fuck is also a really really good and satisfying swear. With the bonus that it loses some badness/stigma in a foreign language (def true here in Sweden where people don’t seem to realise how strong/offensive fuck can be). So screaming their native swears might get them more of a backlash? An hypothesis.

ChameleonCircuit · 06/07/2018 22:34

Verpiss dich is German for fuck off, and is surprisingly satisfying to say!

CasperGutman · 06/07/2018 22:41

German has some swear words that sound great to my anglophone ear, but I don't think swear words in German have the power to shock that some of ours do. My German exchange partner was very happy to walk down the road quoting Pulp Fiction (the bit used in Fun Lovin' Criminals' "Scooby Snacks" - "Any of you fucking pricks move, and I'll execute every motherfucking last one of you!") at the top of his voice. He did this in a "nice" touristy town with loads of older (60s/70s) people around, and seemed completely unable to understand why this might be an issue.

He was a nice, sensitive guy with pretty good English, so at the time I figured it must be that German just didn't have any words with the same power to shock.

ImogenTubbs · 06/07/2018 22:42

Joder and hijo de puta are pretty good.

InspectorIkmen · 06/07/2018 22:52

Italian 'cazzo' (catso) is a good one - can mean anything from fuck to cunt to dick to wanker and more besides. Che cazzo - what the fuck! Rolls off the tongue - I use it all the time 😂

AnalUnicorn · 06/07/2018 22:58

“Fich mein Hut” means “Fuck my Hat” in German. It’s quite similar yet endearingly foreign.

vampirethriller · 06/07/2018 22:59

I can tell someone to fuck their mother in Albanian and Somalian, both of which sound great but I can't spell them sorry!

Lsnowe · 06/07/2018 23:00

I read in a Bill Bryson book that Finnish doesn't have any swear words at all, so when Finnish speakers stub their toe or whatever they shout a phrase that translates as "In the restaurant!"
My best friend and I love shouting "in the restaurant!" now (as well as lots of actual swears).

Solina · 06/07/2018 23:12

Lsnowe Finnish has loads of swear words so I believe you have been lied to about the whole thing.

elQuintoConyo · 06/07/2018 23:16

MINCHIA Grin

elQuintoConyo · 06/07/2018 23:18

Cock in Sicilian.

Coño is very flexible [ahem] i also love a bit of gelipollas Grin

Shopgirl1 · 06/07/2018 23:22

German has plenty of swear words, but Spanish is full of them and they use them a lot. Every second word is coño, German has an equivalent, but it’s rarely used and considered very very rude.
Spanish swear words are de puta madre.
