Based on the fact that football players of all nationalities seem to yell 'FUCCCCK' an awful lot. Grin

Football players know that the referee probably understands English.

Saying "big fat potato" in Urdu is very satisfying (don't know how to spell it though, thanks, old school friend for the life lesson! )

My idiot neighbor called me a Kanker Whore (Cancer Whore) last year and looked quite upset when I started laughing. Apparently, inserting diseases into bad language is a thing in The Netherlands, so much so they had a campaign to encourage people to not do it. However, I can’t help but laugh at the ridiculousness of it.

I love the otherness of non English turns of phrase - especially when they can distil a phrase into a word (schadenfreude Grin).

I also love that English can just shamelessly nick the word ...

Is it Russian or German that has a word meaning "having a face that would be improved with a punch", or something alone those lines ?

LakieLady · 07/07/2018 21:13

Loving "Fuck my hat".

I may have to appropriate that.

NuttyNutty · 07/07/2018 21:42

@DGRossetti in Russian there is an expression "face is asking for a brick" (rozha kirpicha prosit)Grin
There is also " fuck this by a horse"(ebi ego konyom), "go climb a dick" (idi na hui), "ass with a handle" (zhopa s ruchkoy) and other stuff

myrtle my 13 year old dd and her mates often say putas
Their standard morning greeting at school is “hey putas”
She learnt it in Spain last Feb and taught her friends
It means whore but bitch is a better translation.
Puta is also used instead of fucking - so instead of saying something is a stupid idea they might say “ que puta Idea”
Cono is a great word as well and again not very rude, “ hey cono” is a standard greeting
It actually has a squiggle over the n so you don’t confuse it with the word for ice cream cone, which causes much hilarity if you get it wrong
( so I hear)

I'm Swedish but for some reason my favourite swear word is Finnish - perkele. I believe it means the Devil. Swedish swear words are mostly about the Devil too. Although skitstövel is a good one. It literally translates as shitty boot, and is used kind of like bastard would be in English.
I've noticed that people in Sweden say fuck a lot and it seems to be used as a much milder swear word than it would be here in the UK. It makes me cringe every time I'm in Sweden.

banivani · 08/07/2018 17:23

adorable not to mention Eurovision entry “so fucking beautiful” - utterly tone deaf!

PurpleBoot · 08/07/2018 17:46

Fuck also milder in France apparently - I lived there a while ago and there was a film called Fucking Fernand just normally advertised on posters at bus stops, on Metro etc!
