To wonder what the point of cisgender is?

I’ve just read an article where cisgender is described as “someone who identifies as the sex they were assigned at birth”. Is this an actual thing? Why is this even given a label? Surely if you were born male or female and you live as a male or female then this is what you “identify” as. (If you even feel the need to identify as anything, rather than just living your life as you).

It seems like everything must be given a label these days. The worlds gone fucking mad.

Wow!! So thin-skinned! I suggest it's a bit rich and you're bolting for the door.
S'up to you. I care not.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 05/07/2018 16:03

I am definitely of the view that sex is a real biological fact, and connected to but separate from gender.

I have to agree with this

AND IM TRYING REALLY REALLY HARD NOT TO Smile

Seasawride · 05/07/2018 16:03

Spiders?? Sports

And why are these small handful of men so hateful to women? Strange that

DadJoke · 05/07/2018 16:05

@ijustwannadance I've read what you've said. Not quite ready to respond, nor do I necessarily enitrely disagree.

Seasawride · 05/07/2018 16:06

I don’t bother with the semantics.

Dress how you like, love how you like, who you like and be happy in your skin.

But if you have a penis you have no rights in either women’s toilets, spaces tents or races.

DadJoke · 05/07/2018 16:07

@MrPan It's more I don't want to intrude in a women's space if I am not welcome. My skin is as thick as a rhino's - armoured by the patriachy!

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 05/07/2018 16:07

dad

You cant be on here if you are thin skinned

I rarely say anything contentious but the other day a FWR regular said 'eh Hmm' at me...AND I NEARLY CRIED

But i pulled up my big girl pants and tried to explain

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 05/07/2018 16:08

Cross post

WiggyWalsh · 05/07/2018 16:09

Bringin, brigading is where a number of new or unfamiliar posters turn up and you get the impression that they are operating more or less in concert. Google will give you a more detailed explanation. Ditto sock puppet.

Ditto 'cisgender'.

WiggyWalsh · 05/07/2018 16:10

But if you have a penis you have no rights in either women’s toilets, spaces tents or races.

Except legal ones.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 05/07/2018 16:14

I have no idea what your post means wiggy

Can you explain?

I dont know whether i should be nodding sagely or getting irritated

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 05/07/2018 16:15

Nope, ,WiggyWalsh.

ijustwannadance · 05/07/2018 16:16

I have the huge luxury of being a man who is not trans, so I am not affected directly

Unfortunately DadJoke, this is one of the main issues. Men will happily go along with the bullshit as long it it has no affect on them. And for some, the fact womens rights are being fucked over is a nice bonus.
They know trans women aren't women but also don't want them in the 'men' catergory.

Unfortunately, these are the men in power and the women who go along with this shit to please the men are just as bad.

DadJoke · 05/07/2018 16:16

@Rufustheyawningreindeer I've been called quite reasonably for mansplaining and intruding on women's discussions in the past. I've tried to learn from that. My business partner is a women who is a committed feminist, and I've learned a great deal from her, though not enough. My concern is not any hurt I might feel (which I don't so far) but simply that I don't want to be THAT MAN.

WiggyWalsh · 05/07/2018 16:17

Trans women are already protected under the Equality Act 2010. They can - and do - already access women's spaces, and denying them access is already a criminal offense.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 05/07/2018 16:20

not any hurt I might feel (which I don't so far)

We are obviously not trying hard enough (note to self...up game)

but simply that I don't want to be THAT MAN

Just dont be a tit...that should work

chillpizza · 05/07/2018 16:21

It’s not the trans women in women’s spaces that are the issue so much I believe it’s the trans women with penises in women’s spaces that are the problem.

So for me dad a trans women with a vagina so fully transitioned fine, a trans women with a functioning penis in the changing rooms with my young daughters nope not ok.

DixieFlatline · 05/07/2018 16:21

Oh god, it's Supermatch again with his utterly appalling understanding of law and the audacity to steamroller through threads repeating nonsense.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 05/07/2018 16:24

WiggyWalsh, that's bollocks. You clearly know nothing about the regs.

Belindabauer · 05/07/2018 16:24

Sex and gender are two different things.
Sex is what you are born ie male or female.
Gender is a socially construed notion.

Just because you have short hair and wear trainers it does not mean you are male. Likewise having long hair and wearing heels does not make you female.
Gender roles change. Many years ago it was the norm for men to wear make up and heels. They were still part of the male sex.

DadJoke · 05/07/2018 16:25

@ijustwannadance that's true - men tend not to fight for things unless it affects them. Rather sadly, we can just eat popcorn on the sidelines.

So the main battleground in this war appears to be intersectional feminists and transgender people plus their liberal allies on one side, and various radical feminists and conservatives on the other.

I've polled my older female friends and relatives, and they tend be more in the latter camp (as I'd guess are most people), while my younger business contacts and friends are in the former, and that number is steadily growing.

DixieFlatline · 05/07/2018 16:25

Also: when self ID - the entire point of which is to make it easier for trans people to legally register their gender (the current process takes years, is confusing and expensive, and requires sign off from two medical specialists) - comes into play, RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT WILL CONTINUE TO BE ILLEGAL

Ah, that old chestnut. Suck it up women, you can always call the police afterwards... that is, if you were subject to an assault which you

a) are even aware of (hint: hidden cameras installed by men who are essentially free to come and go at will in what were women's private spaces)
b) survived.

But yeah, we can just prosecute 'n' shit. That always works so well. As long as we get justice, bring on the invasion!

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 05/07/2018 16:26

Oh i love belinda bauer books

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 05/07/2018 16:26

Supermatch, eh? What fun, Dixie... Tinkly laugh.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 05/07/2018 16:27

Sorry...i got distracted
