AIBU to hate this heatwave?

Ugh everyone keeps telling me to make the most of the sunshine but i am finding it unbearable.

Lunch break at work - everyone chose to sit outside in the sun. I joined them to be sociable. Within five minutes i felt as though i was melting into the grass. Meanwhile, my colleagues were going on and on about how nice the sun was. I am extremely pale (despite my dark features - i do not tan at all) and burn very quickly. Despite having smothered my face and arms in factor 50 this morning, they were red from just five minutes of sitting in the sun. I had to come back in for the air conditioning. My scalp felt like it was crawling due to being so hot (definitely not lice!). My underwear felt like it was sticking to me.

I feel sick and tired as soon as I go outside in this heat. Is it normal for the heat to affect me so much? I was dreading home time as the walk to the car park from my work exit is about 15 mins. It almost killed me.

Then, when I got into my car, I couldn't touch the steering wheel for around ten minutes as it was so hot. I had to open the windows and stand outside of my car for those ten minutes as I couldn't breathe at all in there, even with leaving a small gap in all windows earlier in the day. And it takes a few minutes of the engine being on for the AC to kick in. Even then, the air felt hot to me.

Just home and went to hang the washing out. Almost fainted. I just felt so heavy and tired and out of breath (normally I'm quite fit!). As soon as I come back inside, I'm right as rain. Definitely not heat stroke or anything as it happens every single time the heat hits us and disappears as soon as I enter the shade. Year after year the heat affects me like this.

Also - as a side note - the wasps and flies and beasties! They are everywhere. Every time i throw one back out of the house, another two turn up.

I hate the summer! Surely I'm not the only one? Autumn is by far the best month. Mild temperatures and lovely, crunchy leaves (and no wasps!).

Yes. I bloody love it!!

LanguidLobster · 27/06/2018 20:11

I'm with you, Punder

9amTrain · 27/06/2018 20:54

YANBU. I've just come back from abroad and already feel like I have heatstroke. No aircon, no pools on standby... etc makes it all more horrible.

ElderflowerWaterIsDelish · 29/06/2018 18:52

I love warm weather but it is a bit too hot for me, by midday if I'm outside in the sun I can feel the sweat pouring out of me , my home feels like a sauna, Grin

DieSchottin93 · 29/06/2018 19:01

YANBU. It was hotter inside the cafe I work in than outside yesterday. I was miserable and totally drained by the end of the day, and the heat kept a lot of customers away. And my bedroom was boiling hot. Today has been about 19C which is about as warm as I can comfortably bear Blush Grin

MadisonAvenue · 29/06/2018 19:02

YAmostdefinitelyNBU. It's horrible.

FurryDice · 29/06/2018 19:05

YADNBU but lots of people will be along shortly to tell you to stop being a Heat Grinch, despite all the discomfort you’ve outlined in your post.

Danceintherain2018 · 29/06/2018 19:06

Yanbu!!

Dhalandchips · 29/06/2018 19:08

I feel your pain Punder. I feel sick and sweaty and generally yuk.

PivotPivotPIVOTTT · 29/06/2018 19:11

Horrible I hate it. Adding in my hayfever I'm just a big sneezing puffy red eyed sweaty mess.

Busybusybust · 29/06/2018 19:12

I hate it too. Despite being quite dark skinnned (for someone with blue eyes and dark blond hair) I cannot sit in the sun. It just makes me feel ill. Not so bad on hols when you have a lovely cool pool to roll into to cool off.

I think the way to go is tepid showers, wrap yourself in a towel and sit in the garden to drip dry,

BonnieF · 29/06/2018 19:13

YABU.

It’s not that hot, there is a light breeze, and humidity is much lower than normal during warm weather in the U.K, making it feel quite comfortable.

I’ve got my shorts, vest top, sandals & shades on and I’m enjoying it.

I’m sure the weather will be back to normal soon, OP.

BehindLockNumberNine · 29/06/2018 19:14

I'm with you!
I work in a primary school. I'm hot, sticky, sweaty, red and uncomfortable.
Playground duty is a killer.
I hate this weather.
Anything over 22degC and I feel sick, sweaty, and without fail a humdinger of a headache caused by the heat (whilst I feel sick from all the liquids I have drunk)
Classrooms are boiling, kids are melting, tempers are flaring leading to bickering (mostly kids but some staff too Wink )
And some bright head of year decided today would be a good day to do baking. Baking, I tell you!

I come alive in September. Crisp leaves, fresh air, a bit of sun.
Not this hot, sticky, icky stuff.

safariboot · 29/06/2018 19:15

YANBU.

I've coped better this year than previous years for some reason. Maybe because I'm spending all my time in a north-facing ground floor room with the curtains always shut. But my leg's in a cast and it's so sweaty. Of course that means not a chance of going out to "enjoy" the weather, I'm just cooped up.

I always think if you can just laze around doing nothing, like you can on a holiday, then hot weather's not so bad. But when we get hot weather here in England we have to work in it, a lot of places have no aircon, and it's just shit.

busyboysmum · 29/06/2018 19:16

I feel very sorry for you.

But I love it. I feel so happy in the sunshine.

This is the best summer I can remember. We've had so many amazing caravanning trips already this year. Proper ones.

So IMO YABU but I'm sure this will pass soon enough and normal crap British weather will resume.

liverbird10 · 29/06/2018 19:17

I'm like you, can't cope with the heat. I'm of Indian descent so am allegedly made for the hot weather, so I'm told. Hmm

Clearly my Scouse roots supersede my ancestry. Much happier in light, cool rain. Grin

PharrellsEagleTattoo · 29/06/2018 19:17

YANBU

9amTrain · 29/06/2018 19:19

It's not THAT hot outside, where I am. But seems few buildings are built for this type of weather, as we so rarely have it! That's the problem! My bedroom feels like 45 degrees.

TroubledLichen · 29/06/2018 19:20

YANBU. Hate the heat! I’m in the Midwest of America and it’s 100 Fahrenheit and ridiculously humid here today. The only saving grace is that we have air conditioning but I’m dreading the electric bill arriving!

WerkSupp · 29/06/2018 19:21

I fucking HATE this heat. No A/C so have to keep the windows open. So my hayfever has been dire. I feel like shit. I'm perimenopausal and am a sweaty, smelly mess in this fucking heat. It's too fucking hot to be without A/C. I hate long days, too, as DS has ASD and he's a nightmare in Summer.

It's 30 fucking degrees.

Too hot. Roll on Autumn.

weeklywoo · 29/06/2018 19:26

YANBU!!! I am 8 months pregnant and have a 1 year old to look after, live in a flat with no garden. It's unbearable.

ferretyfeet · 29/06/2018 19:27

I loathe this heat,I would rather have a rainy day in November

happinessiseggshaped · 29/06/2018 19:30

I hate it too. I faint when I overheat or get dehydrated. Its my party trick but I haven't done it now for 8 years (which is my record!) Ive felt very light-headed and useless the last few days. Im vey fair skinned so burn in minutes too and have no shade in the garden so cant even go outside. Its rubbish. Going to bed soon.

HeffalumpsnWoozles · 29/06/2018 19:33

It’s been between 28c - 29c where I am for the last 5 days and looking at the forecast for next week it’s the same again. Anything over 23c makes me nauseous, gives me a headache & makes my heart race.

It’s odd as it only came on as an adult so IMO YANBU, it’s miserable having to do day to day things which little respite let alone working in an office where it is often hotter than being outside for 10hrs a day.

I love autumn & winter but get why sun lovers don’t want to listen to me moaning about the heat as it’s a small part of the year.

Oh & humid weather is 10x worse than the temps we’ve had recently as it doesn’t even cool overnight.

ilovesooty · 29/06/2018 19:40

I'm sorry you're uncomfortable but I'd be quite happy if it stayed like this permanently.
