AIBU to hate this heatwave?

Ugh everyone keeps telling me to make the most of the sunshine but i am finding it unbearable.

Lunch break at work - everyone chose to sit outside in the sun. I joined them to be sociable. Within five minutes i felt as though i was melting into the grass. Meanwhile, my colleagues were going on and on about how nice the sun was. I am extremely pale (despite my dark features - i do not tan at all) and burn very quickly. Despite having smothered my face and arms in factor 50 this morning, they were red from just five minutes of sitting in the sun. I had to come back in for the air conditioning. My scalp felt like it was crawling due to being so hot (definitely not lice!). My underwear felt like it was sticking to me.

I feel sick and tired as soon as I go outside in this heat. Is it normal for the heat to affect me so much? I was dreading home time as the walk to the car park from my work exit is about 15 mins. It almost killed me.

Then, when I got into my car, I couldn't touch the steering wheel for around ten minutes as it was so hot. I had to open the windows and stand outside of my car for those ten minutes as I couldn't breathe at all in there, even with leaving a small gap in all windows earlier in the day. And it takes a few minutes of the engine being on for the AC to kick in. Even then, the air felt hot to me.

Just home and went to hang the washing out. Almost fainted. I just felt so heavy and tired and out of breath (normally I'm quite fit!). As soon as I come back inside, I'm right as rain. Definitely not heat stroke or anything as it happens every single time the heat hits us and disappears as soon as I enter the shade. Year after year the heat affects me like this.

Also - as a side note - the wasps and flies and beasties! They are everywhere. Every time i throw one back out of the house, another two turn up.

I hate the summer! Surely I'm not the only one? Autumn is by far the best month. Mild temperatures and lovely, crunchy leaves (and no wasps!).

As the mum of 3 month old twins that are extremely sleepy and grumpy due to the heat, I’m with you, roll on autumn. Hate having to wash my sweaty hair every day too. My skin is pale and just freckles in sun. I am a stone overweight too and all summer clothes look shit. I could go on...

justchangingagain · 29/06/2018 19:41

I'm with you op, plus I'm bored of it now I want changeable weather back where it can be different from morning, afternoon to evening.

SluttyButty · 29/06/2018 19:42

Yanbu, I have inflammatory arthritis and the heat and that just do not mix at all. I go to hang the washing out and that's it. Careful house management because I no longer work so am home 99% of the time to keep the house as cool as possible is exhausting in itself.

And I'm someone who used to love the heat and spend hours in the sun before the shitty Arthritis decided it was going to take over my life. Just call me SunGrump from now onwards 😂

JacquettaW · 29/06/2018 19:44

I loathe Summer with a passion. Makes me grumpy. There are a lot more of us around than you would think.
I'm sick of melting all the time, sick of being all stuffed up with hayfever, the headaches i get, not being able to sleep properly and the FLIES!
I'm the same every year. I love Autumn and Winter Grin

TheMotherofBears · 29/06/2018 19:45

Yes. YABU. This weather is glorious.

GunpowderGelatine · 29/06/2018 19:47

YANBU. I hate it. I think if we lived in a country better equipped for hot weather I'd enjoy it, but we don't!

haverhill · 29/06/2018 19:50

Yanbu. I like to walk and move and in this weather I feel a sweaty mess. I am super pale and it actually feels like the sun is ‘burning’ me. My body looks much better in fitted, autumnal clothes. I love the look of sun on the world but hate the heat.

GreyGardens88 · 29/06/2018 19:50

Yeah I hate it, especially in the afternoon the sun shines directly through my window from about 5pm right until it sets, so I have to close the blinds but means I can't get cool air in from outside!!

FranticallyPeaceful · 29/06/2018 19:53

I hate it. It’s not so much the heat I hate, but I hate feeling sweaty... i feel horrible. It completely stresses me out! Also trying to cool a newborn down is near impossible. The bedroom is currently 29 degrees despite having all windows opened and a very beasty fan in almost every room.... just nope. Give me snow so we can snuggle instead!

MissionItsPossible · 29/06/2018 19:53

I will confess to being the OP who posted the AIBU 'boiling hot English Summer' thread who name changed. If I knew so many on here felt the same I wouldn't have bothered to NC.

YANBU.

ihatetosay · 29/06/2018 19:56

miserable gits this is bloody lovely

hammeringinmyhead · 29/06/2018 20:00

YANBU. I am pregnant and I feel like I want to crawl out of my own body. Pregnancy means I burn in about 7 minutes with factor 50. And my pet rat is too hot.

sonypony · 29/06/2018 20:00

Gosh that does sound quite an extreme reaction. I always seem to do less well than others i know in the heat normally, and i'm currently 3rd trimester pregnant and still not suffering like that. Have you got anything like a cool gel pad, cooling wet towel, handheld fan, cool spray etc? Hope you feel better soon.

HushabyeMountainGoat · 29/06/2018 20:04

I don't like it either OP. I'm happy with low 20s, t shirt weather, that sort of thing. But i cannot bear feeling sticky and lethargic. I hate summer clothes, and my feet are always sore and sweaty from not wearing socks.

I like coats and boots and cold crisp sheets after a bath with a hot water bottle Grin

WerkSupp · 29/06/2018 20:05

My hayfever is definitely miserable.

HemanOrSheRa · 29/06/2018 20:14

It's broken me SadGrin. I like it on holiday when I can lounge around. But trying to work in it is dreadful. I work in the community and have to get in and out of my (hot) car many times a day. I buildings I visit aren't built for this weather. Some are SO HOT Confused. I could have also done without our hot water tank flooding this morning. I am now in my PJ's drinking gin and tonic after shouting 'Fuck this fucking shit' Grin. I'll sort the mayhem tomorrow.

Solasshole · 29/06/2018 20:17

Yabu to refer to this as a heatwave but I grew up in Australia so ignore me Grin

I'm sure it'll be raining and cold again in a week or too OP, anything under 15 degrees is fucking cold to me lol

HelenaDove · 29/06/2018 20:21

Its too hot. Social housing flat which gets VERY HOT.

ForalltheSaints · 29/06/2018 20:23

YANBU to dislike this above average temperature- no rain at Wimbledon in the year Andy Murray is coming back from injury!

I do not like weather 'presenters' assuming that everyone enjoys this kind of weather- those who have hay fever, respiratory conditions or people such as the OP do not like it.

SaltyPeanut · 29/06/2018 20:23

I suffer in pretty much the same way as you OP. Bloody horrible.

I'm lying down in the living room with two fans pointing at me and I've got another fan going in the kitchen pointing to the door so it blows up the hall. I've got the balcony door wide open and both windows.
I have got the kitchen window open and it has created a blissful blow through if you stand by the kitchen door.

The flies, oh my god, the flies. Horrid little bastards, especially the buggers that won't land. I've had to become a fly swatter ninja. Moths of all sizes, spiders, a myriad of weird beetles, mystery bugs, bees, gigantic daddy long legs. Hundreds of birds going nuts from 3:30am The area we moved to last year is so leafy, lots of trees, feels like we've moved to the wild kingdom.

Can't wait for autumn.

WTFdidwedo · 29/06/2018 20:25

I love it when people on these threads come out and say it's not that hot when they don't even know where you live!

HelenaDove · 29/06/2018 20:30

As the same weather warnings go out to look out for elderly people in hot weather as it does in cold, why isnt air conditioning fitted as standard like heating.

HelenaDove · 29/06/2018 20:33

And this weather is not rare...........not anymore. Last July was very humid and we had heatwaves in August and September of 2016

its not rare anymore

Raven88 · 29/06/2018 20:33

I love the heat when I'm on holiday and I am on a sandy beach because I can cool down in the sea or in air conditioning. I don't like working and doing normal things in it. I don't think yabu at all. At home I am keeping the blinds closed and keeping a fan on so I have that as a cool area it really helps.

mytittifersungtheirsong · 29/06/2018 20:39

YANBU OP. This heat is unbearable and I find it hard to function. Every move I make I'm literally dripping in sweat. I think I've actually changed underwear 4 times today!!

I've also been known to point the fan towards my fanjo to cool down Blush
