Ugh everyone keeps telling me to make the most of the sunshine but i am finding it unbearable.

Lunch break at work - everyone chose to sit outside in the sun. I joined them to be sociable. Within five minutes i felt as though i was melting into the grass. Meanwhile, my colleagues were going on and on about how nice the sun was. I am extremely pale (despite my dark features - i do not tan at all) and burn very quickly. Despite having smothered my face and arms in factor 50 this morning, they were red from just five minutes of sitting in the sun. I had to come back in for the air conditioning. My scalp felt like it was crawling due to being so hot (definitely not lice!). My underwear felt like it was sticking to me.

I feel sick and tired as soon as I go outside in this heat. Is it normal for the heat to affect me so much? I was dreading home time as the walk to the car park from my work exit is about 15 mins. It almost killed me.

Then, when I got into my car, I couldn't touch the steering wheel for around ten minutes as it was so hot. I had to open the windows and stand outside of my car for those ten minutes as I couldn't breathe at all in there, even with leaving a small gap in all windows earlier in the day. And it takes a few minutes of the engine being on for the AC to kick in. Even then, the air felt hot to me.

Just home and went to hang the washing out. Almost fainted. I just felt so heavy and tired and out of breath (normally I'm quite fit!). As soon as I come back inside, I'm right as rain. Definitely not heat stroke or anything as it happens every single time the heat hits us and disappears as soon as I enter the shade. Year after year the heat affects me like this.

Also - as a side note - the wasps and flies and beasties! They are everywhere. Every time i throw one back out of the house, another two turn up.

I hate the summer! Surely I'm not the only one? Autumn is by far the best month. Mild temperatures and lovely, crunchy leaves (and no wasps!).

Too hot for me. Finally got to sleep at 4.30. Up for work at 6.00. Feel stabby.

Lizzie48 · 02/07/2018 08:06

It will be good for the tennis at Wimbledon, though. We might not get any rain delays this year. They might struggle in the heat, though.

Seriously, though, the grassy areas are turning very brown here. We really do need some rain.

LoniceraJaponica · 02/07/2018 08:20

The grass is parched everywhere. We are simply not used to this kind of weather round here. Every summer I see posts on here complaining about the heat, and I think "what heat?" but this year we are enjoying lovely weather, but we aren't experiencing the kinf of temperatures that a lot of you are, so for me, it is just beautiful weather.

31 degrees forecasted for Wimbledon today, but only 24 degrees where I live Grin

MadisonAvenue · 02/07/2018 08:37

It's not just the grass, the leaves on the trees are dying. Our lawn is covered in leaves from next door's cherry tree and the leaves on many of the silver birches in the woods are yellowing and falling.

AlexaAmbidextra · 02/07/2018 09:34

Hate it. You can never look nice. Clothes crease, make-up slides off and hair goes lank. Apart from which this heat saps every bit of energy I have. The only comfortable place to be is in the car with the AC blasting.

SluttyButty · 02/07/2018 10:04

I'm firmly planted on the sofa this morning until the humidity goes down, supposedly in the next hour. I have sweat pouring off my face just from blinking Confused

DinaCaliente · 02/07/2018 11:20

I love it, I've got a USB hand held fan (originally got it for hot flushes but it works a treat in this weather to get the cooling breeze right on me)and a hot tub in the garden.
There's a lovely breeze and it's not too humid.
I live near the beach, and I ride my scooter to work so no hot car.

I felt like I was on holiday this weekend without leaving my house.

Kaykay06 · 02/07/2018 11:27

I like the sunshine and heat to an extent but if it makes you that uncomfortable it’s hard to enjoy summer least you had a/c in your work try working in a hospital in that my uniform is so thick and there was no air whatsoever even our fans were blowing hot air that wasn’t a nice 12 hour shift and the next day was hotter, now on annual leave thank goodness so getting the chance to enjoy some sun although not one to sit out in it as I get bored then feel all sweaty. Sat in shade later on with my book and there was a lovely breeze. Schools are out here so we are off to Legoland and I’m hoping it’s a it cooler for kids walking about/queing in this heat isn’t fun

LanguidLobster · 02/07/2018 11:32

I'd love a huge downpour

tigercub50 · 02/07/2018 11:34

I usually love warm weather but this is too much for me. I don’t have a headache as such but keep feeling light headed & as if my brain is knocking against the inside of my head! Feel sick too, very sleepy & not much appetite. I think it’s the wrong sort of heat! Humid & heavy. Needs a good thunderstorm to clear the air.

tigercub50 · 02/07/2018 11:35

Oh & no air con at work is awful!

HemanOrSheRa · 02/07/2018 13:42

My car temperature doodad says it's 29 degrees. Which means the inside of my car is hotter than Lucifer's underpants Sad. I've got my Ice Towel wrapped round my neck and my handheld fan.

Please make this heat stop!

KellyanneConway · 02/07/2018 13:55

YANBU as we all react differently but I bloody love it and have dreamed about a summer heatwave for years, I am totally in my element. I have been planning on buying an apartment in Spain for years to get away from the usually terrible British weather. Cold weather makes me feel drained, exhausted and depressed and it hurts my bones.

BishopBrennansArse · 02/07/2018 14:54

Yep. There's enough cold, damp months where my arthritis is dreadful so I'm loving this heat. I'm almost pain free.

LoniceraJaponica · 02/07/2018 15:33

It's 25 degrees here today. I'm off to paint the garage.

PurpleBoot · 02/07/2018 16:08

I'm loving it, but am luckily not in the car that much or public transport. It's quite low humidity so that makes it bearable. Plus our cold house in the winter is fantastic in this weather. You walk indoors and the cool hits you.

easyandy101 · 02/07/2018 16:09

It's about 2 weeks out of 52

YABU

bumblingbovine49 · 02/07/2018 16:19

It really does take time to acclimatise to very hot temperatures. I think about 2-3 weeks in total . In this country we never have it that hot for long enough. If it lasts for more than a couple of weeks, even people who really struggle with heat deal with it better than they did at the beginning.

I think some of it is genetics though. I don't like really strong direct sunlight or humidity much (who does) but I feel much happier in the summer and in hot weather than in cold weather.

This is despite being morbidly obese and ostensibly being someone who should struggle with it. I do sweat obviously and it can make me more tired but I am already acclimatising and generally enjoying it.

Obviously staying out of direct sunlight in temperatures of 30oC plus is sensible. I have no wish to sit in the sun at lunchtime, I go and find a nice shady spot instead or stay under cover/inside like all sensible human beings done in very hot weather since time began.

I

bumblingbovine49 · 02/07/2018 16:22

Heres my prediction, it will be hot until around the 20th July then the heavens will open and it will be rainy for a few weeks till the children go back to school!

Definitely what will happen!

haverhill · 02/07/2018 22:14

I was supervising kids on a huge AstroTurf at the hottest point of the day for an hour and thought I would faint. It was hideous. An Australian colleague was there too and said it was ‘bad’ so it must be!

FurryDice · 05/07/2018 04:19

Still fucking too hot. Fuck off already, heatwave! You’re not wanted here!

The80sweregreat · 05/07/2018 05:55

It’s going to be 30 this weekend. I feel like crying.

Sheeparemyfriends · 05/07/2018 06:13

30c in my classroom most of this week. Kids can't cope, I'm a mess by the end of the day.

Baubletrouble43 · 05/07/2018 06:25

Yanbu ... I have an 18 mo with the fairest skin I've ever seen . I'm too paranoid to take her out for long even covered in sunblock which she inevitably rubs in her eye. I blame my ginger Scottish dad. Roll on Autumn.

AngelsOnHigh · 05/07/2018 06:54

I know how everyone feels. Only in my case it's when it's been 42C for 5 consecutive days.

Today's it's beautiful 24C but it is the middle of winter
