Shell fish in nursery lunchbox

Nicpem1982 · 27/06/2018 16:07

Posting for traffic really so apologies

Dd has started to have packed lunch at nursery and the guidance I was given was just send her with what she will eat although we're a healthy eating school.

She's asked for prawn and cherry tomato skewers for tomorrow which is fine for me but is shell fish on the no list like nuts normally?

Sorry new to this lunch thing....

Fine to poke a bit of fun at the OP and she took it well, but criticising her parenting and being a dick in general isn't.

My son also remembers things that happened months ago so always a bit baffled when people claim they won't remember/ mind at that point. Yes, they fecking will.

I wouldn't send prawns if the nursery is in a deprived area for better or worse, otherwise crack on.

NotUmbongoUnchained I bet most kids would love bento boxes, they look amazing, might have to get one...

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 28/06/2018 22:33

Cherry tomatoes and prawns combinations just sound vile, both flavours to me just don’t go together not to mention the texture of both Confused

Also food poison haven.

Beamur · 28/06/2018 22:38

borntobequiet 15 years! Funnily enough, last time she mentioned it, I finally cracked and asked if I could please be forgiven for this minor slip up, (I'm not an evil SM) and bless her, DSD looked at me wide eyed with surprise. She'd assumed Dad had been making the lunches (not me) so was actually moaning about him. Grin

Amalfimamma · 28/06/2018 22:38

borntobequiet a staple with my 2 toddlers. Much more fun then spaghetti.

UserWorried · 28/06/2018 22:41

Hilarious!!!

(Sorry, just a minute I need to ask the children something ....."Put the Papaya down Orlando")

borntobequiet · 28/06/2018 22:41

Oh dear.

MagicNumberyThings · 28/06/2018 22:41

I am a bit bonkers at the mo. Laid on my back on the floor with a broken ankle and my leg on the sofa. Doctor told me to sleep with it above heart level. From the the responses on this thread I'm not sure I have a heart at all. Or if I do, whereabouts it might be.

All suggestions and previous experience welcome.

Lweji · 28/06/2018 22:42

How on earth is a well cooked prawn going to cause food poisoning? At least any more than, say, cheese?

Are you thinking of prawn mayo?

If there are cooked prawns in the fridge, why not give a child what they want?

Some people are weird.

My 3 year old son once pointed to a lobster in a fish tank in a restaurant and said I’ll have that one, thermadored! I pretended I was the Nanny. Pmsl at this thread

Dumbledoresgirl · 28/06/2018 22:46

I like salmon paste.

Just saying.

Beamur · 28/06/2018 22:46

MagicNumberyThing your post made me chuckle, it was a proper sensible rant! Hope your foot heals quickly.

MagicNumberyThings · 28/06/2018 22:49

I like salmon paste

I like salmon paste as well. Just couldn't bring myself to admit it.

pandarific · 28/06/2018 22:49

Jesus, WTF is with the loons on this thread? Yes, op's AWFUL, JUST AWFUL for giving a child who likes prawns and tomatoes, prawns and tomatoes. The horror!

@Nicpem1982 - I would have fecking loved nice food like that as a wee one! Because my sister was a picky pain in the arse we had a lot of plain very boring food, and it was rubbish. Rice crispies, ham sandwich, petit filous - for YEARS, over and over and over. I remember whining, it changed for a day or two, and then reverted to ham sandwich, petit filou, rice crispies for breakfast. (sigh)

lastnightidreamtofpotatoes · 28/06/2018 22:59

Way size of prawns do people use in packed lunches where you can thread them into a spoon handle or lemongrass?

NotUmbongoUnchained · 28/06/2018 23:00

King prawns I imagine!
My kids won’t eat the little prawns as they don’t believe they’re actually prawns Hmm

MagicNumberyThings · 28/06/2018 23:09

Thank you for your nice thought Beamur It's taken some of the pain away. I shall rename you, in my thoughts, as Naproxen.

ToesInWater · 28/06/2018 23:10

I've made "skewers" before from long crunchy carrots for kids to take to school. Don't know why you are getting grief for prawns, yum!

manicmij · 29/06/2018 00:17

Worry would be ensuring lunch is kept very cold until needed. Never heard of anyone reacting allergy wise to fish being in a room as can happen with peanuts. Sophisticated choice by your young DD.

TaleasoldasTimee · 29/06/2018 04:40

If it's on the no list then.why are you sending it? Why be bloody awkward? Send something else.

petrolpump28 · 29/06/2018 05:25

Thread prawns on a spoon handle so a demanding toddler can unthread them. Great idea.

CosyLulu · 29/06/2018 06:27

But what will you do if she asks for caviar on duck’s bill crackers the next day?Shock

Nicpem1982 · 29/06/2018 07:23

Tale - I wasn't given a no list that's why I started the thread as I wasn't sure if it'd be OK to send them in allergy wise, I couldn't ring the nursery it had closed by the time I'd got back from work and started to make her lunch

Nicpem1982 · 29/06/2018 07:25

Cosy lulu - thanks for your concern but she asked for ham salad for today :)

petrolpump28 · 29/06/2018 07:28

What if she asks for cheese sandwiches and there's no cheese in the house?
