Just that really. What do you turn to when you maybe need cheering up, or a book or television show you turn to again and again.

This is a bit inspired by realising that I re-read the same books and watch the same tv shows again and again and dh just doesn’t get it as he will read or watch something once, whereas I find it quite nice to just have a familiar story to just delve into with no thought required

I'm going through a low patch so I'm going to dig out my Jilly Cooper books and revisit those old friends ☺
Films, any Richard Curtis type films help me escape.

MyKingdomForACaramel · 26/06/2018 20:47

@sneaky - Friends is one of mine - and cookery shows too (and Come Dine With me - while not strictly cooking it’s like something I can just relax in front of)

Monarch of the Glen. Wallpaper of a TV show. Like a hot chocolate in a mug with a cuddle.

At times it gets sad, but everything turns out alright in the end. And when you cry they're weirdly cathartic tears.

I'm not sure I'm selling it well..!

MyKingdomForACaramel · 26/06/2018 20:51

@hooli - Rachel’s holiday is my go to when I’m feeling unwell. I must have read it twenty times.

Any murder mystery on the tele - but not Murder She Wrote or any other American stuff. Poirot, Miss Marple, Midsomer Murders, Death in Paradise, Inspector Morse.

monkeymamma · 26/06/2018 20:52

I watch hollyoaks even though I am now in my late 30s 😁 no-one irl gets this at all. I am fairly into classic literature, read “serious” stuff and generally shun all but the highest quality hbo telly shows. However I just love hollyoaks. It makes me happy. I think following a soap is great for your mental health because there’s always a sense of “I wonder what will happen next!”

Books - where do I start? The most comforting thing I’ve ever read is The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets by Eva Rice. I always return to Persuasion by Jane Austen and also The Diary of a Provincial Lady. Dh jokes that he knows I’m going through a rough patch if he finds the latter next to my bed!

Love Actually is obviously bobbins but I watch it every Xmas, along with Its A Wonderful Life. I Capture the Castle is lovely too. But my go to is Far from the Madding Crowd (the original with Julie Christie, although the recent one was cute too).
