Just that really. What do you turn to when you maybe need cheering up, or a book or television show you turn to again and again.

This is a bit inspired by realising that I re-read the same books and watch the same tv shows again and again and dh just doesn’t get it as he will read or watch something once, whereas I find it quite nice to just have a familiar story to just delve into with no thought required

TV - cookery programmes. Also any decent rom coms on Netflix etc.

Books - Just started re-reading Georgette Heyer historical novels. I re-read Diary of a Nobody every few years. Generally anything 'light'.

Churrolicious Yay for Diagnosis Murder! Used to watch it every afternoon when I was caring for my son who was off school with M.E. He indignantly denied watching it with me. The unashamed (and unexplained) appearance of members of the Van Dyke family added to the fun, as did the enormously long lunch hours Dr Mark Sloane (DVD) and his fellow doctors took to investigate crimes, occasionally taking other jobs undercover.

Books:

Jilly Cooper - ‘Rivals’ or ‘Riders’
Alexander McCall Smith - 44 Scotland Street
Graeme Simsian - The Rosie Project
Jane Austen - Sense & Sensibility

TV:

  • Pride and Prejudice (BBC version)
  • Pawn Stars Blush I bloody love it!
  • Anything with Tom Kerridge in it - I have no idea but I find watching him so comforting. I loved that one he did recently with the artisan food producers.
RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 27/06/2018 16:06

Oh yes and I love a murder mystery! Murder she wrote, Midsomer murders, Lewis. Don’t love the murder, just the beautiful scenery! And murder she wrote reminds me of my mum, so that’s why I love it.

Ahhh I feel better just thinking about it.

Tv - Gilmore Girls, BBC pride and prejudice

Nat Geo air crash disaster- I take a perverse pleasure in knowing that experts pick apart crashes in such detail that it makes me feel better about flying and life in general

caithuait · 27/06/2018 19:44

Morse, Taggart or any good detective programme for tv. For film, I love space horror so the Alien films. Comfort food - things with melted cheese, crisps or fried rice dishes.

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 27/06/2018 19:46

Oh I forgot Harry Potter! Books and movies.

Also, I’ve just started reading the Outlander series and, so far, I love it. Anything which is a total escape for me is great, so I do enjoy historical fiction and fantasy novels.

Can I ask which is / are your favourite Marian Keyes book / s please? I’ve tried two of hers after I’ve heard them raved about and I couldn’t stand them. One went to charity after the first chapter or so and the other after a few chapters. I then read reviews (too late) on amazon and everyone said “not as good as her usual”! So I’m clearly choosing the wrong ones.

happypoobum · 27/06/2018 20:10

The Other Side of the Story is my favourite. I also really like This Charming Man.

I really didn't like her last book - The Break.

The older stuff is the best.

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 27/06/2018 20:22

Thanks! I’ll try those. The ones I tried were The Brightest Star in the Sky and The Woman Who Stole My Life.
