Just that really. What do you turn to when you maybe need cheering up, or a book or television show you turn to again and again.

This is a bit inspired by realising that I re-read the same books and watch the same tv shows again and again and dh just doesn’t get it as he will read or watch something once, whereas I find it quite nice to just have a familiar story to just delve into with no thought required

Milly Johnston or Lucy Diamond books always cheer me up!

Books: I'm amazed no-one else has mentioned Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City series. There's something so humane about them and they've got the lot: parts are funny, rude, dramatic and soap-like (they started as a serial in a magazine so there are a lot of cliff hangers). Best of all if you like them, there's lots of them to read.

TV: if my life is going wrong I find 'Malcolm in the Middle' puts it into perspective and/or Freaky Friday. I know you're meant to identify with the teenagers but the older I get the more I identify with the mothers (if I actually sound like the mum in Horrid Henry I know it's not a good day).

I also like Jilly Cooper especially Score! and Appassionata, because she's done her research with the opera/music background and although the characters are caricatures, they do bear a passing resemblance to real people in that world.
