Not in my name

I am shaking with anger and horror here... an utterly vicious and horrid attack on all levels.... the ferocity was shocking.

For it then to be attributed to women when they are clearly male is so very shocking on so very many levels......

This has gone too far..... How have the police ever agreed to count crimes committed by males as crimes committed by women, just on the say so of the male committing the crime?

I knew this was happening but I hadn't realised that anyone could "self-id" as female to the police.... How has this happened?

@Branleuse ShotsFired that kicking was definitely less violent than misgendering and using wrong pronouns

Ah yes, good point.

(All those women suffering violent domestic abuse should just count themselves damn lucky they weren't misgendered. That would be far far worse to experience. This one, for example: - she got off lightly)

R0wantrees · 26/06/2018 20:22

My understanding is that in England and Wales rape is specifically a crime involving a penis.

As Scotland has a separate legal system, rape is defined differently there.

Soubriquet · 26/06/2018 20:23

Naught

At the time, it was a man, identifying as a woman, dressed as a man to hide out

Confusing or what?

Pratchet · 26/06/2018 20:27

Celebratory foolishness? That woman must have been terrified!

LunaTrap · 26/06/2018 20:27

I love how in that article hoodie and jeans= dressing as a man!

That is the article that peak transed me, making sure not to accidentally misgender a rapist was prioritized over providing clear information that might help apprehend him.

littlemissdynamite · 26/06/2018 20:28

I am shaking with anger and horror here

Really? Wink You are seriously shaking with anger and horror? Confused

Yeah it's not great what happened, but that's a bit dramatic!

Pratchet · 26/06/2018 20:28

I was responding to helen'as video there

TheCheeseStandsAlone · 26/06/2018 20:29

But cargo pants and a black fleece are unisex styleless clothing, not “dressing as a man”.

TransplantsArePlants · 26/06/2018 20:29

littlemiss

Are you suggesting the OP might experience different emotions from you?

TheCheeseStandsAlone · 26/06/2018 20:30

Cross posted with @lunatrap. I dress as a man on most weekends, it would seem Grin

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 26/06/2018 20:32

See again case against self id, because if you want to realign your gender surely you dont "hide out" in your biological gender cos you fancy it?

Im guessing by plants comment that he had reason to want to "hide".

TransplantsArePlants · 26/06/2018 20:33

TheCheese. Well, it stands to reason, doesn't it, that if wearing a dress means you are a woman (as those thugs in the video were) that wearing cargo trousers means you are a man

Logic, innit?

happydappy2 · 26/06/2018 20:34

Everyone needs to be aware that this is what the current UK law represents-a farce-where a male committing a crime can ‘identify as a woman’ so that said crime gets processed & recorded as if a woman had done it.

We need clear differentiation in the law between a woman, a man who identifies as a woman but retains male genitalia, & a man who undergoes gender reassignment surgery so is as close to a woman as physically possible. They can not all be lumped under the term ‘woman’

shiklah · 26/06/2018 20:34

'literal violence'

HelenaDove · 26/06/2018 20:34

YY Pratchet

When it was a load of men fighting in a posher area (nearby town) it was deemed an unacceptable incident.

www.essexlive.news/news/essex-news/pair-arrested-over-earls-colne-1712929?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

less posher area and a woman victim.............its a disturbance.

www.braintreeandwithamtimes.co.uk/news/16301919.police-called-as-rowdy-england-fans-take-to-streets-of-braintree/

And yet it was "women" who committed the crime in the OP FFS!

tillytoodles1 · 26/06/2018 20:35

If the onee in white isn't a man then I'm shocked.

Really? You are seriously shaking with anger and horror?

For some women seeing male violence is very distressing. Even when it's on screen.

And it's extremely disturbing that society has changed so drastically that 4 men can be so thuggish but be described as women by the press. It's Orwellian. I feel chilled by it.

Please don't belittle how other women feel about this. I watched the video and felt sick. Violence frightens me.

seafret · 26/06/2018 20:37

Bloody hell. Men should mean males. Women should mean females. Descriptions should be factual and science based.

They may be transwomen, they may be man in drag, who the hell knows.. whatever they 'identify' as, THEY ARE NOT WOMEN

Police reports should say "male wearing dress and wig" which is factually correct.

'IDEVAW 2017: Naming & recording male violence against women & girls'
(Extract)

"The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) also reports that ‘data collected may not record the sex of the victim and perpetrator, nor the relationship between them’ and that this hampers efforts to identify certain types of violence (such as intimate partner violence) and make comparisons across Europe. This is echoed in an article in the Guardian for IDEVAW where the CEO of a UK women’s charity highlights that discussion of “violence against women and girls” (rather than naming it as specifically male violence) shifts the blame away from the men who are responsible for the vast majority of domestic and sexual violence against women and girls globally."

They look like men, they act like men, it's sickening to decent men.
Based on the assumption that they are indeed men, it's horrific that they add further insult by claiming to be women.

Utterly barbaric. Pitifully sad.

Howisthislegal · 26/06/2018 20:39

Growing up in Tottenham blocks I’ll tell you I witnessed far more aggressive group attacks by females than I did by males - men tended to fight one on one. Pretending it never happens is ridiculous.
However I can see how stories like this are damaging. But you have no idea if they are actually men, has it been stated anywhere? Are they masculine woman?
It’s not great for them if it’s unconfirmed and you may be calling a ‘natal’ woman a ‘trans’ woman if you see what I mean.

How
Are you suggesting there's a difference between natal woman and trans women?

That is deemed Transphobic by many.

dadshere · 26/06/2018 20:41

I don't know if all of them are men, but from the video I watched, the one in black is definitely a male. I don't care how much make-up they wear, or if they are in a dress, a man is a man. Until we can change an X chromosome into a Y and vice versa, you cannot change your sex, just how you appear.
