To be devastated at losing an envelope with £500 cash in it?

Short version: On Friday a friend gave me £500 they owed me in cash, in an envelope. Within the space of 24 hours I have no idea where it is.

My memory is terrible and I often wonder if I've got early onset dementia (I'm in my 50s).

I was nervous getting this money in cash as I don't like having large sums on my person. I would have preferred it put straight into my bank account. But the person who gave me the money didn't want to do that.

I had a feeling that I was going to lose the money. Perhaps I manifested this thought into reality.

I'm gutted and feel sick.

What's the largest sum you've ever lost and how long did it take you to get over it?

I'm sure you're not interested but if you are, here are further details:

When my friend gave me the money (in my home) I was rushing to get out of the house and so I think I left it at home (I live alone) then went to the dentist and then to work.

I remember counting it so that must be when I came home from work. But I just cannot remember where I put it! I had a builder I didn't know coming the next day so started to put credit cards away etc. I still don't know what I did with the cash.

Next morning I looked for the cash in the place I thought I'd left it and it wasn't there. This was before the builder got here, so he's not responsible.

I have looked in all the places it might be, and even went through the rubbish and recycling but it is nowhere. I rang the dentist and the pharmacy but they said nothing had been handed in.

Finally, lesson learnt. I will never again accept cash payments in a large sum. I will insist on a bank deposit.

Yay! Great news. Hurrah for your good humour in the face of adversity and to St Anthony (who I’ll be invoking regularly as I Iose stuff all the time - found my lost birth certificate in the shed once). Have a wonderful holiday and thanks for such a positive and heartwarming thread.Flowers

If you counted the money late at night, you were probably just about to go to bed. Hence them being with PJs as you had envelope in hand when you got your PJs for bed. Grin So pleased you found it.

This thread has warmed the cockles of my heart.

I'm so happy for you, northernlights! Happy Holidays! Grin

MN taught me about St. Anthony some years ago, and whenever a friend or I have been stumped about where something is, I have invoked his name and asked for help. He has come through every time. Thank you, St. Anthony!

mummyoflittledragon - I’m so sorry to hear that you’re ill. I will pray for you. Sorry not to respond earlier - it’s hard to keep track of everyone. Take care of you, hunFlowers

Yay so happy for you OP x

Mummyoflittledragon · 26/06/2018 14:24

Thanks northern. I’m really touched by your words.

I’m so glad you found your money. And so much more. All that missing stuff, you must be so chuffed!

I had a hysterectomy a few days ago. I do hope that will make me feel decidedly better in the long run. I now realise I have been poisoned by my uterus for years (severe adenomyosis) as well as having a lot of endo.

it does sound as if it is at home some where but I do feel your pain as have done this sort of thing too! When going away on holiday I have hidden my handbag/purse/money/credit cards any that I am not taking with and put them in places were an intruder just would not think of....unfortunately when i get home brain full of hols I can not remember where they are either! So frustrating until they turn up, usually pops in to mind in the middle of the night. It is a big family joke although I have taken to telling them now where there are residing and they usually can not remember by then either!
When pregnant and in a rush I thought I had lost my purse too but after a stressful couple of hours i found it in the back of the fridge with what I had bought in front of it!
Some times, and easier said than done I know, I know, try to totally forget about it and it may pop in to mind where it is? I some times put money inside books or envelopes between books on the book shelves?
If, just say, IF you do not get it back the other way to try to look at it is may be whom ever 'found' it needed it very badly for something very, very important and it has gone to a good cause? That kind of thinking has helped me with many loses and set backs?
Good luck.

Thread started 3 days ago & there are nearly 400 posts

You'd think people might at least glance at a handful of recent posts, to get an idea if the situation has been resolved, but no Confused

(I have been reproved by personal message for suggesting that RTFT is a good idea before posting on it. Apparently that's only something done by utterly perfect people)
