What will she think when she sees the play for the first time??
She'll probably think "great name".

My DD's name is shared with a tragic and unsympathetic fucked up film character. I didn't name dd after the character. She just happens to be the most publicly known person with "that name".

It's not like they are being called Hitler.

My DS knows an Ophelia, I've heard him say 'Feely'. I've only ever heard the mum say Ophelia though.

I would shorten it to "Phia".

Joking apart Ophelia is a lovely name. Eleanor, Beatrice for girl James, Louis (people may think you've copied Kate Middleton) or Michael.

What about Evangeline or Ariadne, not too many Shakespeare's then?
I do know little twin sisters called Ophelia and Florence.
