To hate the light nights? (Title edited by MNHQ)

I cannot abide this time of year. I've been up since 3am because of the light mornings and I hate the light nights. Everyone else seems to love them but I want the cold, dark, pitch black at 3pm days back.

It's light until 11pm and light again at 3am!

AIBU to think the winter is much preferable to the misery of June light nights?

Don’t mind the the light nights at all but the early, early morns are getting me down - we have blackout blinds but somehow the early grey fingers of light creep around and I do the half awake and fall back on the hour until 7 am. DH is unconscious next to me throughout, naturally.

I'd be happy with sunrise at 8.00am and sunset at 5.00pm every night... perfect

TapasForTwo · 17/05/2019 21:00

I take it you don't drive to work then Grumpy?

Grumpyknickers14 · 17/05/2019 23:30

Yes I drive to work at 6.30am and do a 13 hour shift and drive home at 8.00pm, I'm a nurse. I actually prefer to drive when it"s dark. I hate the sun in my face. And yes I'm weird... I know🙈

I hate the summer too - it’s my least favourite season. Unfortunately, where I live, it’s already sweltering hot. We only get about two weeks of spring and maybe three weeks of autumn. I don’t have a social life anyway, so don’t feel the need to go out more, but it’s the dryness, bright light and relentless heat that get me. I’m another who finds summer clothes virtually impossible, I’d like to feel comfortable but stylish. I spent the whole afternoon looking for lightweight trousers- total fail. I’d like to hibernate until October.

TapasForTwo · 18/05/2019 00:19

Where I live we get 8 months of winter and 4 months of unreliable weather, albeit with longer daylight hours.

thegreatcrestednewt · 18/05/2019 00:23

You must live pretty far north if it’s light that long!

Yalu btw - I love the light nights. The dark evenings are literally depressing. I hate it being dark by the time I leave work.

I love, love the birds returning from Africa, the signs of spring in the garden - all of it.

SneakyGremlins · 18/05/2019 00:23

I cannot sleep in light.

I LOVE winter.

happyhillock · 18/05/2019 00:42

I love the summer light night's during the week I'm in bed by 11pm it's starting to get dark by that time, i have wooden blinds in my bedroom and curtains, when there both closed its really dark so the light morning's never waken's me up the alarm clock does, i hate the winter when it's dark at 4pm its so depressing, dark when you go to work dark when you get home, makes me feel very low.

Grumpyknickers14 · 18/05/2019 00:55

Snap.... I could hibernate until Autumn too.

SneakyGremlins · 18/05/2019 01:20

I wonder if the opposite of SAD is a thing?

TapasForTwo · 18/05/2019 02:03

I think it is. I get SAD, and feel really low in winter. I like crisp, sunny days, but the reality of winter where I live is dull, grey and damp, which makes me utterly miserable.

Grumpyknickers14 · 18/05/2019 09:06

Yeah it must definitely be the summer version of SAD

DonkeyHohtay · 18/05/2019 09:24

YABVVU. The light is amazing and does wonders for my mental health. The darkness coming back fills me with horror.

(And when I am Queen of the World, the words "cosy" and "snuggle" will be banned).

I like light mornings but don’t appreciate it still being light after 10 pm.
I would prefer it if we abolished BST and stuck to GMT all year round.

Grumpyknickers14 · 19/05/2019 22:24

I agree with you.... just leave the clicks alone!!!

Grumpyknickers14 · 19/05/2019 22:25

Meant to say clocks not clicks

TapasForTwo · 19/05/2019 23:39

It is dark by 10 pm just now where I live.
