To hate the light nights? (Title edited by MNHQ)

I cannot abide this time of year. I've been up since 3am because of the light mornings and I hate the light nights. Everyone else seems to love them but I want the cold, dark, pitch black at 3pm days back.

It's light until 11pm and light again at 3am!

AIBU to think the winter is much preferable to the misery of June light nights?

God yes, the morning chorus! I forgot about my hatred of that. Why do they have to tweet so early? What is the point of it? Drives me insane. Too hot to keep the windows closed, too noisy to open them.

This is what I need.
Light at 5.30, dark at 9.30.
Useful amounts of rain between 1am and 4 am only.
Temperature between 22 and 26.

DoraChance · 21/06/2018 12:46

My Uncle told me that in the war the clocks were changed by two hours so it stayed light until 11pm in the summer! I hate it too though, can't wait for dark cosy evenings to return.

RecliningHenderson · 21/06/2018 12:48

It's light till 11pm where I am at the moment. It's awful.

In the summer I long for winter, in the winter I long for summer 😆,
Try covering your windows, or, if you can, close your curtains then put a blanket or similar over the curtains, hopefully will block the light out that seeks in through the cracks.

A good set of eye masks does the trick for me. I'm in my own little cave with them on.

Time40 · 21/06/2018 13:09

Can everyone who hates light, hates heat and generally hates summer please give it all to me? I'll have everyone's excess summer. Please send it all, so I never have to do winter, ever again.

susieintheshoeshineshop · 21/06/2018 13:50

Today is the longest day. Nights start drawing in from tomorrow.

RecliningHenderson · 21/06/2018 14:45

I know, I can't wait for them to start getting darker. I think I'm going to go to buy a sleep mask after work.

I cannot believe how much better I feel after reading this thread. I really thought it was just me that felt like this. It's only May and I am counting down the days until Autumn. I absolutely hate light nights. Why do we have to put our clocks forward and add another hour of lightness to the evening?? I love Autumn & winter.

KissUntilTheyDieOfRabies · 14/05/2019 15:14

Myyyyyyyyyyyy peopleeeeeeeee

Even if it is a zombie thread

mollyblack · 14/05/2019 15:22

Get a sleep mask- they are life changing!

TheFrenchLieutenantsMonkey · 14/05/2019 17:03

I don't care if this is a zombie thread!
I loathe light nights. Mostly because you don't get a night! Nights are when i feel i can wind down and relax. When its light there seems to be a throng of people I know who all start exclaiming "I feel i can get so much done!! And there's all this pressure to be outside 'enjoying' the sun.
I don't like sun. I have stupidly sensitive eyes and wear sunglasses even on overcast days.Contrary to belief held by everyone I know (and who love to tell me they thought I'd love this weather for the health benefits) the heat and sun make my Fibromyalgia flare up so I'm usually sat still, sweating, squinting and wincing in pain. I am not at my best in the warmer months stalks off in a strop

ChocChocButtons · 14/05/2019 17:29

I like both, I love the cosy dark winter nights but then spring comes followed by summer and I loved the light nights and the sunny evenings.

Grumpyknickers14 · 15/05/2019 15:44

The days are just soooooo long. Day should be day and night should be night. In summer there is literally no night. Summer stresses me out so much. Everyone on social media is loving the beer gardens.... and I'm like is it Christmas yet?? The sun does nothing for me except flare my skin up. I love winter and twinkly lights.

HBStowe · 15/05/2019 16:05

I love light evenings. I went for a walk with my husband at 9pm last night and the light was all golden in the fields and everything smelled green and fresh. It was lovely.

You need some good black out blinds for your bedroom!

TapasForTwo · 15/05/2019 16:09

Every year we have this thread, and every year I disagree. I have terrible eyesight and don't see well in dim light. YABU. And where do you live where it is only dark between 11 pm and 3 am in May? Norway?

I love summer Grin

ilovesooty · 15/05/2019 16:15

TapazForTwo me too.

It's barely summer and already the moaners are collecting with all the clichés about autumn and cosy Angry

Grumpyknickers14 · 15/05/2019 16:21

In England in June it doesn't get dark until about 11pm. To be fair I'm not usually a moaner. But I really do struggle in hot weather. I have rosacea and my skin is awful in summer.

MotherOfDragons90 · 15/05/2019 16:29

I love being able to come home from work at 4pm and sit on the patio with a glass of wine. And eat dinner out there (Nice salads and crusty bread). BUT THEN I just want to go up to bed early and sleep and I feel like I shouldn’t because it’s still so damn sunny.

TapasForTwo · 15/05/2019 16:32

To be fair I am not at home at the moment, so I don't know what time it gets dark where I live, but it was certainly dark by 10 pm last Thursday. No idea what time it gets light though. I must have good curtains.

Loyaultemelie · 15/05/2019 16:36

Yes permanent autumn hours would suit perfectly!

BlueMerchant · 15/05/2019 16:36

Hate summer. Hate the sun. Hate the heat. Hate the light. Hate the clothes. Hate the atmosphere. Hate BBQ's.

TapasForTwo · 15/05/2019 16:56

TBH I don't understand the "hate the clothes" comment. Summer clothes don't have to be skimpy. Just wear what you normally wear in lighter weight materials. Lighter trousers instead of jeans, loose shirts instead of jumpers. I'm struggling to understand the problem here.

Grumpyknickers14 · 15/05/2019 17:02

Summer is so damn noisy too. I'm a mother and I love my child but at night I want to relax. But in summer the kids are out screamung until the sun goes down. It's so hot and hectic. I love cool winter days and cosy nights.
