@sarafagen2 says GOP will need "years" to recover from effects of zero-tolerance policy

This vileness is just the biggest, stinkiest turd on the top of midden the Trump/GOP have constructed. There will be more to come, and they could be bigger and more pungent. This should wipe out the GOP for a generation, but the Kochs, Reckitts and Mercers will have other ideas.

I can't help thinking that, while everyone seems to be breathing a sigh of relief, the babies and children we saw and heard crying for their parents are still separated from and crying for their parents. Sad

Shock Whitehall probably not horrified enough to rescind Trumps invite.
So glad I’m heading away on holiday during his visit.

lettuceWrap · 20/06/2018 23:21

Gump, it’s heartbreaking to think of them. Poor wee kids.

Gumpendorf · 20/06/2018 23:24

As well as the protests on 13 July, there is a protest at the US embassy on 30 June to coincide with protests in the US. (Thanks for the links lemon) I can't be there on 13th but I'm in London on 30/6. must remember US Embassy is now at Nine Elms

'An HHS official tells @weijia that there will NOT be special efforts made to reunite children who have already been separated from their families bc of the Zero Tolerance Policy, despite Trumps EO. Process will proceed for minors currently in the unaccompanied children program.'

Hmm @justinamash House Republicans had front row seats to @POTUS’s dazzling display of pettiness and insecurity. Nobody applauded or laughed. People were disgusted.

@realDonaldTrump
Had a great meeting with the House GOP last night at the Capitol. They applauded and laughed loudly when I mentioned my experience with Mark Sanford. I have never been a fan of his!

That audio of the children crying is so appalling. I can’t stop thinking about it. It’s absolutely horrific.

I’m sorry to link to it but I can’t bear to think that anyone would think the situation is in the least bit OK now for these children now that Trump has reversed this despicable policy. What is his plan for reuniting them? How will they be protected and compensated from now on?

You know, it doesn’t even make sense. On one hand, Trump is endlessly complaining (see below) that the Democrats are obstructing and just want open borders with immigrants pouring in. On the other hand, Republicans say they are only enacting Obama/Clinton/Democrat policy already in place. Which is it? Get your lie straight, at least.

It’s the Democrats fault, they won’t give us the votes needed to pass good immigration legislation. They want open borders, which breeds horrible crime. Republicans want security. But I am working on something - it never ends!

And I refuse to listen to anything Duluth rally-related. It’s simply a massive wank, KJU-style. He’s trying on his Emperor clothes.

ohmymimi · 21/06/2018 07:19

Duluth rally was more rinse and repeat. Report here, if you can stomach it:

Thanks for the new thread. I'm way behind at the moment and have slightly run out of steam!
But I persist and I'm planning my placard for July!

Roussette · 21/06/2018 07:27

Claws it's bad, not that I listened to it, but there's bits around. Unsurprisingly Fox covered it live but it got very little coverage elsewhere apparently, I think it's same old same old and only his cult followers are interested.

One little gem I picked up from the Guardian that he said...
(and no, this isn't a joke, he actually said this...)

'They always call the other side ‘the elite’. Why are they elite? I have a much better apartment than they do. I’m smarter than they are. I’m richer than they are. I became president and they didn’t. And I’m representing the greatest, smartest most loyal best people on earth - the deplorables, remember that?'

He is the most needy, narcissistic, pathetic individual to walk this earth

I don’t understand how the Deplorables, hearing such tripe, don’t start thinking “Well, heck. Why am I following this person like a sick puppy? He doesn’t represent me at all. Not even my hairy toe.”

lettuceWrap · 21/06/2018 07:58

My DH (origin, Jewish, American), says the abuse of these children is straight from the Nazi playbook, dehumanising them makes it easier to justify worse behaviour towards them Sad

Roussette · 21/06/2018 08:11

Claws Grin.

craxmum · 21/06/2018 08:45

What do you think happens to the children when their parents are taken into immigration detention in the UK?
There is a fresh thread going on the largest UK immigration forum from a legal immigrant (working with a leave to remain) who faced their house being entered by the enforcement team, physical force used and calls made for their toddler to be placed in foster care as a matter of urgency. It was discovered to be a "genuine mistake" in the end.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/06/2018 08:52

Do you have a link please Crax? I know that there are many many horrors in our 'system' too.

craxmum · 21/06/2018 09:03

Here's the study. No cages, just a couple of two year olds separated from their mums for an average of 270 days. Majority of removal/detention cases are overturned on appeal, by the way.
