Ouch. That abcnews article!

EXCLUSIVE: Michael Cohen says family and country, not President Trump, is his 'first loyalty'
abcnews.go.com/Politics/michael-cohen-family-country-president-trump-loyalty/story?id=56304585

But when I pointed out to Cohen that he wasn’t repeating past vows to “take a bullet” and “do anything” to protect the president, the longtime Trump loyalist left little doubt about where he stands now, saying simply: “To be crystal clear, my wife, my daughter and my son, and this country have my first loyalty.”
[...]
Once Petrillo fully assumes his role, a joint defense agreement Cohen shared with the president, which allowed their lawyers to share information and documents with each other, will come to an end, ABC News has learned.

At that point, the legal interests of the president of the United States and his longtime personal attorney could quickly become adversarial.

When I asked Cohen how he might respond if the president or his legal team come after him to try and discredit him and the work he did for Mr. Trump over the last decade he sat up straight. His voice gained strength.

“I will not be a punching bag as part of anyone’s defense strategy,” he said emphatically. “I am not a villain of this story, and I will not allow others to try to depict me that way.”
[...]
On issue after issue, Cohen did, however, separate himself from President Trump -– starting with the president’s criticism of how the government has conducted its investigation.

After federal agents searched Cohen’s New York properties, Trump described the raid as a break-in, an “attack on our country, in a true sense. It’s an attack on what we all stand for.”

“I don’t agree with those who demonize or vilify the FBI. I respect the FBI as an institution, as well as their agents,” Cohen told me. “When they searched my hotel room and my home, it was obviously upsetting to me and my family. Nonetheless, the agents were respectful, courteous and professional. I thanked them for their service and as they left, we shook hands.”

Cohen also refused to criticize the Mueller investigation.

"I don’t like the term witch hunt,” he said, adding that he condemned Russia for interfering in the 2016 election.

“As an American, I repudiate Russia’s or any other foreign government’s attempt to interfere or meddle in our democratic process, and I would call on all Americans to do the same,” he said.

And in a direct rebuttal to President Trump, who sent out a tweet last week repeating Vladimir Putin’s claim that Russia did not interfere in our election, Cohen added this: “Simply accepting the denial of Mr. Putin is unsustainable.”

“I respect our nation’s intelligence agencies’... unanimous conclusions,” he said.

There's so much going on lion, better twice posted than not at all Smile .

Tellingitlikeitissince96 · 02/07/2018 16:46

The hysteria in this thread is quite frankly ludicrous. There is only one person responsible for these children being separated from their parents, and that is the person who brought them over the US border illegally, breaking US law.

It is entirely legal and reasonable for the US government to prosecute adults who illegally enter the US, for the crime of illegal entry. Now, to prosecute people you have to detain them. Adults are detained in adult detention facilities. Children, for obvious reasons, cannot be held with adults as that would pose all kinds of safety problems, as well as the fact that the children are not being prosecuted themselves, as they are innocent.

So adults who bring their children to the US illegally should expect to be separated from them as their is no reasonable alternative.

lettuceWrap · 02/07/2018 16:55

ODFO dear.

lionheart · 02/07/2018 16:57

Not making this up ...

www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-wto-fart-bill-abandon-steve-mnuchin-us-tariffs-eu-trade-war-a8426246.html

'Donald Trump’s administration has drafted a bill that proposes abandoning fundamental principles of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

The Fair and Reciprocal Tariff Act, dubbed the Fart Act, would give the president licence to raise tariffs without congressional consent and sidestep international rules.'

PerkingFaintly · 02/07/2018 17:01

So, Tellingitlikeitissince96, what do you think of the US intelligence assessment that N Korea has been attempting to deceive the US and actually increase nuclear stockpiles?

While extracting every concession it can from the Trump administration?

WhatdoImean · 02/07/2018 17:06

@Telling

OK - time to feed the trolls....

"There is only one person responsible for these children being separated from their parents, and that is the person who brought them over the US border illegally, breaking US law."

I wish life were that simple and black and white... You have someone who is seeking asylum - an entirely legal process. They go to the border crossing, and try to cross, to be told "Come back tomorrow - we are closed"

So they do the same next day - same result. And the next and the next.

So in desperation, they cross the border other than an "official" point of entry. They now get arrested and separated from their children - and this is THEIR fault?

There was a policy decision by the Trump administration to use this separation as a deterrent to those who are looking to get into America. To use the separation of kids from their parents, to place them (literally) in cages and then blame the victims?

I (and I actually genuinely mean this) am very very glad not to be you. I am human and have empathy for others.

Tellingitlikeitissince96 · 02/07/2018 17:17

That's the most naive, stupid (and completely inaccurate) description of how illegal immigrants cross the border I've ever heard. And I would know, having lived on that border and seen it first hand. I don't feel like explaining it to you would benefit at all, so I won't bother.

Anniegetyourgun · 02/07/2018 18:05

The Fair and Reciprocal Tariff Act, dubbed the Fart Act

Like many another initiative, he clearly hasn't quite thought this through Grin

Roussette · 02/07/2018 18:34

Tellingitlikeitissince96

Lol

Whatdoimean has it totally right. Apart from being told to come back, they're too busy, apparently, they are even moving border crossings.

Agree with you, don't bother, you're losing. Smile

lionheart · 02/07/2018 19:04

Oh c'mon Telling.

Live up to the username, tell us what we need to know* (with credible sources) and save us from our own hysteria.

*I lived on the border doesn't cut it.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 02/07/2018 20:07

Hello, I was invited by Rousette from The Handmaids Tale threads my American politics is rustier than it used to be thanks to Jon Stewart 😍 retiring (how I love that man ) I keep up mainly online through articles and I also enjoy John Oliver. I can’t pretend to be as clued up as the rest of you, but I do worry about the Gilead esque tendencies of the Administration and a US foreign policy approach were Russia and North Korea are preferred over democratic allies (would be dictator anyone?)

I daresay all of you are more clued up than me, so I’ll pull up a pew and observe for a while and link to anything of interest that crosses my path

Roussette · 02/07/2018 20:15

Do pull up a pew MrStarkIdontfeelsogood, good to see you! We're nearing the end of this thread but someone will start a new one with links, we've been going years Grin

Any links gratefully appreciated, I end up double linking sometimes but no one minds! Smile

lionheart · 02/07/2018 20:40

Hello MrStark and welcome.

lionheart · 02/07/2018 20:45

www.masslive.com/politics/index.ssf/2018/07/elizabeth_warren_seeks_list_of.html

'Elizabeth Warren, Ed Markey seek list of migrant kids, parents separated under Trump administration's 'zero tolerance' immigration policy.'

ohmymimi · 02/07/2018 22:02

I miss Jon Stewart, too, MrStark, so much (but thank goodness for Messrs. Colbert and Meyers).

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 02/07/2018 22:04

Do you watch Last Week Tonight mimi?

Sleipnirthewonderhorse · 02/07/2018 22:05

Does Trump do anything that he doesn't consider the best? I bet he can't even find the Netherlands on as map (embarrassed confession - I'm not sure I can either, but at least I'd know roughly where to look)

Fox News
@FoxNews
.@POTUS: “It’s a great honor to have the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands… I think the relationship with the Netherlands has never been better than it is now.”
