All they seem to represent us keeping the rich, rich and the poor, poor. There doesn't seem to be that many rich people so why do they get so many votes?

I’m not a Conservative , but saying they are all terrible or whatever isn’t helping anything or anyone. People have all manner of reasons for voting - none of the parties are that good and Brexit just muddies the waters. It’s a terrible time for all the main parties.

Ohmydayslove · 18/06/2018 21:45

prune

Lesser of two evils. Guarantee you Corbyn would do worse and the actual thought of Abbott being home security is terrifying.

Can I ask people who think they do a better job of running the country than Labour (which is a totally valid point of view) - do you think they have made a good job of it since 2010?

not really a fair question because Mrs May hasn’t been pm the whole time and jC hadnt hijacked labour on 2010 Dave was much better than ed I am an adopter and the Tory’s did a lot of try and speed up adoption he really worked at it. My sister is able to marry because of Dave before that labour offered some half house shite now Mrs May is shit but JC dear loads deliver us from evil John mc Donald is something else and Diane Abbott given a job she clearly is not capable because he once shagged her awful

EngTech · 18/06/2018 21:48

I think it is a case of who do you dislike the most ?

If we get a GE and JC gets the keys to Number 10, so be it and that is the joy of democracy

If it all goes pear shaped again, who picks up the pieces ?

By all means, spend, but where is the money actually going to come from?

Hit the rich and they will leave U.K. At what point are you deemed rich?

Be careful what you wish for 😬

Ohmydayslove · 18/06/2018 21:49

Lots of racist and bigots and mysogynists voted labour.

What’s your point? Just being generally rude and silly?

Seriously no party is great at the moment but labour are dead under Corbyn. Even the kids now realise he isn’t cancelling their student debts and have cooled off.

KatnissMellark · 18/06/2018 21:49

Over the last 15 years we've developed a liberal orthodoxy where it's not possible to question immigration policy, its effect on healthcare and education services, the EU, the benefits bill, self identification, soft foreign policy etc etc. Anyone who disagrees with or questions the middle class socialism labour wish to impose is labelled a racist, thick, ignorant. The working class feel sidelined, ignored and slanted so they are turning their backs on Labour, voting for Brexit and disengaging. Labour need to wake up, move closer to the middle ground and get rid of JC. It's ironic that the traditionally friendly accepting party have become exactly what they've always claimed to despise- close minded, judgemental and hypocritical.

Guacamoledip · 18/06/2018 21:52

So stating facts is rude and silly now? I didn’t call all Tory supporters racists and bigots I said there were a lot of racists and bigots that voted conservative.
Voting for a party based on one policy is wrong then, according to what you’ve just said then? So surely that’s the same for all parties?

Chattymummyhere · 18/06/2018 21:52

Well it’s a two dog race Tory or labour and I will wouldnt trust Corbyn to but my dogs turd in a bin let alone run a county.

The saying goes, labour spends all the money, Tory come and clear up the mess. It’s a repetitive cycle people don’t like Tory cleaning up the mess to vote in labour who once again spend all the money and then Tory again. Nobody else stands a chance.

grasspigeons · 18/06/2018 21:53

The people I know that vote conservative believe in a small state and that they will personally be taxed less and that there will be less red tape for business to thrive and create jobs etc. They like a small state because they see the state as wasteful and think private companies will provide a better service at a lower cost. They tend to feel quite strongly about personal responsibility and see a virtue in working hard.

I don't agree with them on many things but it wouldn't be a democracy if there wasn't debate and options.

The80sweregreat · 18/06/2018 21:57

Labour wreck the economy and tories clean up - been hearing this all my life and I’m old.
It’s what people believe. It’s sort of ingrained. Old Tony was ok as he was a red Tory so they could stomach him. We are a conservative country on the whole.

ScattyCharly · 18/06/2018 21:58

Whichever party wins the floating voters. And tbh in modern times, the way to win the floating votes is to be the least asshole-ish party/leader. None are a good option. It’s the best of a very bad bunch. So bad that this time, I couldn’t vote because all of the options were big time assholes.

pennylulu · 18/06/2018 21:59

Coz the alternative is getting that pathetic muppet Jeremy Corbyn in power, and that ridiculous joke of a woman Diane Abbott.

Corbyn made the Tories win the election.

Cabininthewoods69 · 18/06/2018 22:01

Im not rich but dont struggle and i vote tory as i agree with them.

People vote Tory because their policies appeal to them. What is wrong with conservative polictics? Since when is the liberal way, the only way? I know a few people who voted Tory because they were appalled by the sheer aggressive nature of the left in this country. I vote Tory because I hate Corbyn.

WeirdAndPissedOff · 18/06/2018 22:13

"Labour wreck the economy and the Tories fix the mess."
It's been years since the recession, years of a Tory government, and our public services are getting worse, the NHS is at breaking point, the police can't even come out to seriois crimes in progress, homelessness and food bank usage are at the highest points in a long time, and the most disadvantaged in society are dying or comitting suicide because they can't afford to live.
If that's fixing the economy, I despair for our future.

That said, I don't know who to vote for. We have a two party race, and I couldn't bring myself to vote for either at present. I can't see any change in the immediate future, or for a long time either. I don't know what to do. Sad

BoxsetsAndPopcorn · 18/06/2018 22:16

Could never vote Labour after the shambles of tax credits and there are more Tory policies I agree with than the lib dems. I know lots of Tory voters, none are rich so I disagree that it's money that drives their vote.

The80sweregreat · 18/06/2018 22:17

It is a piss poor line up indeed.
British politics is messed up but so are a lot of other countries.
If Brexit wasn’t so prominent I believe May would be gone. They need her around as they know it’s not going well- need to look like they know what they are doing. They can throw her under the bus later on.

Ohmydayslove · 18/06/2018 22:18

We need a sensible centre party again!

The right wing have taken over the tories and the hard left and momentum have taken over labour.

And neither of those groups give a flying Fuck about the ordinary British person.

They are all rich. The only difference is the tories don’t bother to lie about it and labour do. Tories don’t pretend to care and labour do.

The80sweregreat · 18/06/2018 22:20

Labour won’t move to the centre with JC in charge. Tories will become more right wing esp if they win the next election.

IMBU · 18/06/2018 22:22

What Metoodear said encapsulates many of the reasons I vote Tory. There are so many Tory haters out there slagging anyone off who doesn’t share the same political beliefs as them. I see it all over Facebook as well. The silent majority stay remain silent because of this very reason...

Ohmydayslove · 18/06/2018 22:22

Tell you what though I am no fan of may but I think Boris Johnson’s actions and his dishonerable and disloyal treatment of her is disgusting and shows his true vile mysogynistic and nasty nature.

I wanted her to spit on him last question time as he was grinning away

Cattenberg · 18/06/2018 22:22

As a person of part-Jewish ancestry who supports many Labour policies, I've tried to find out more about the accusations of antisemitism in the Labour Party. However, most of the reports are frustratingly light on detail (eg. of what was actually said). The details can be important, as there are people out there who brand any criticism of Israel as antisemitic - I've seen this myself.

I find it hard to believe that the party who elected Ed Miliband as leader and short-listed his brother David, is antisemitic, although no doubt such a large organisation contains a number of unpleasant characters. This report from the Campaign Against Antisemitism might shed some light on this. Here's a quote:

The YouGov data shows, for example, that
Labour Party supporters are less likely
to be antisemitic than other voters, so
the cause of British Jews’
discontentment with the Labour Party
must be the way that it has very publicly
failed to robustly deal with the
antisemites in its ranks. This means that
the Labour Party has fallen out of step
with its core supporters, who are
generally less likely to hold antisemitic beliefs

antisemitism.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Antisemitism-Barometer-2017.pdf

Sorry for the partial thread-jack by the way, but this issue has been mentioned several times.

Ohmydayslove · 18/06/2018 22:25

The party who elected Ed isn’t the present party though Is it?

Noqont · 18/06/2018 22:26

Well I wouldn't vote for Corbyn. He's a lying twat.
