All they seem to represent us keeping the rich, rich and the poor, poor. There doesn't seem to be that many rich people so why do they get so many votes?

(Disclaimer: Haven’t RTFT)

I’m not a Tory lover either, but FGS; people can vote however they like. I hate threads like this.

siwel123 · 21/06/2018 10:16

But the question was why do you vote Tory. People have their personal answers but apparently we're wrong to think that.

SweetSummerchild · 21/06/2018 10:16

My blind sister was found fit for work - under Labour

My friend was told that her autistic son with Downs Syndrome and a serious heart defect needed no additional care - under Labour.

Of course, that was ‘New Labour’ so it didn’t count...

topcat1980 · 21/06/2018 10:18

"But the question was why do you vote Tory. People have their personal answers but apparently we're wrong to think that."

But the post called a strawman wasn't in answer directly to that question was it.

Ohmydayslove · 21/06/2018 10:19

It’s pointiess auntiebasil

It’s s Corbyn echo chamber and no dissent is allowed.

Corbyn didn’t gain votes st the last GE, Theresa lost them because the voters were furious with her for calling the election in the first place so close to the EU election.

It’s blindingly obvious Corbyn won’t win any election. If you think he will you need to step out of your bubble.

Now the kids realise Corbyn isn’t going to cancel their debt he’s lost them too.

Corbyn is the best gift the tories will ever have.

auntiebasil · 21/06/2018 10:20

@topcat1980 - you are just flinging out "straw man" at anyone who doesn't say what you want them to say. It may give you a warm fuzzy feeling but it isn't really debating, is it?

auntiebasil · 21/06/2018 10:21

@Ohmydayslove Grin

Ohmydayslove · 21/06/2018 10:26

The straw man comments is just shutting down debate.

tammy I respect your opinion that Corbyn can win but I profoundly disagree with you and think you are in for a dissapointment.

I also think it’s a disaster for labour and the country.

topcat1980 · 21/06/2018 10:30

Not at all, it is a strawman argument, it means that you can dismiss any of the points made to you.

Come on here and say why its a positive to vote for the Tories, rather than using personal attacks on the opposition.

"It’s s Corbyn echo chamber and no dissent is allowed. "

This thread has been massively and often aggresively conservative.

"Corbyn didn’t gain votes st the last GE, Theresa lost them because the voters were furious with her for calling the election in the first place so close to the EU election."

That is just your opinion and you have no evidence for this other than your opinion. Lots of the polls at the time showed why people were going toward labour.

What you are doing is creating a revisionist narrative to confirm your bias.

"Now the kids realise Corbyn isn’t going to cancel their debt he’s lost them too. "

He never promised that, again changing the narrative for your own gain.

Actually the "youth quake" is a bit of a myth, the extra turn out was in the over 25s-40s and they were far more likely to vote labour.

Battleax · 21/06/2018 10:31

Anyone who would like to live in a one party system is a fool (and no Lib Dem’s don’t count as a proper political party, they’re a car crash).

topcat1980 · 21/06/2018 10:31

"The straw man comments is just shutting down debate."

No it isn't, using the strawman is to shut down the debate. Critically analyzing the strength of an argument that uses such fallacies is not.

TammySwansonTwo · 21/06/2018 10:33

Corbyn didn’t gain votes st the last GE, Theresa lost them because the voters were furious with her for calling the election in the first place so close to the EU election.

That’s your opinion, there’s no evidence of this - in fact Lib Dem lost out most significantly. If people didn’t want to vote Tory, that doesn’t mean they’d automatically vote labour, especially if Corbyn is as dreadful as some here think. There are other options. Not voting is another option. Do you genuinely not recall the support Corbyn was getting, or the media climate at the time? It’s all a bit Orwellian, this selective memory stuff.

My whole life I’ve heard people complaining about politicians being sleazy, disingenuous, shady, exploiting expenses, etc. Give them a potential leader who’s none of those things? He’s apparently unelectable.

Personally I think we should borrow Bernie Sanders, but that’s clearly not going to happen.

And no, I don’t want those other leaders personally because I don’t want more Blairite, right of centre bullshit dressed up in a red tie. It’s not a choice if your choices are right or further right.

auntiebasil · 21/06/2018 10:38

If the choice is soft right (compared to Thatcher, this lot is pretty soft/wet/whatever) or extreme left, plenty of people will either hold their nose and vote Tory, or pick a third option, or spoil their paper, or not vote at all.
Which they are entitled to do. Slinging childish abuse at people who disagree with your voting choices may be lots of fun but it doesn't change their minds.

TammySwansonTwo · 21/06/2018 10:43

What abuse have I slung? I’m the one who’s been on the receiving end of assumptions (trustafarian?!) and digs about my assumed age and knowledge. What I’ve seen is a lot of bias and ignorance, and when I’ve tried to counter it with facts I’ve been told not to post links.

I’ve been hounded to repeat something I’ve stated many times, and yet still no comment on the disabled kids under UC, or the fact that the tories didn’t bother building the houses they had funding more and just gave the money back!

But sure, let’s talk some more about you personally don’t like Corbyn so he’s unelectable.

Extreme left? Do me a favour. It’s socialism, not communism.

Danniz · 21/06/2018 10:43

The Conservatives are deliberately wrecking the country because of an ideological hatred of the EU. They don't give a monkey's about the economy.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 21/06/2018 10:46

As pp said Tories are trashing the economy in the name of Brexit. John Major's "bastards" are on the cusp of taking over the party.

Thatcher was not hard right. She was classic neo liberal, free market Tory with the "strong on the economy" (load of bollocks) mantra. The current crop of Tories don't care even the Torygraph is complaining about tax rises to pay for the NHS.

auntiebasil · 21/06/2018 10:46

I personally don't likeCorbyn and plenty of people who normally vote Labour feel the same. As evidenced by regular comments on here.
If you like to believe that I am a Tory straw man or I don't care about vulnerable people, go ahead.
If Labour get a half decent leader, I will vote for them.

Justanotherlurker · 21/06/2018 10:47

And I’m so sorry for using facts to counter bias and bullshit. How ridiculous. What do people have against facts these days?

Oh the irony, you refuse to talk about the "facts" and are using just as biased bullshit yourself.

topcat1980 · 21/06/2018 10:48

"Slinging childish abuse at people who disagree with your voting choices may be lots of fun but it doesn't change their minds."

Not seen anyone do this in the past few pages except for you.

"If you like to believe that I am a Tory straw man or I don't care about vulnerable people, go ahead. "

That wasn't the statement that was critiqued as a strawman is it?

topcat1980 · 21/06/2018 10:49

Justanother,

Which facts do you think you have countered?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 21/06/2018 10:49

auntiebasil, for someone who isn't a Tory you invest a hell of alot of time in bashing Corbyn.

Thanks to the Tories and Brexit we are destined for hung parliaments. The country is divided and will be so for years to come.

TammySwansonTwo · 21/06/2018 10:49

Indeed Danniz - although there was no comment on the state of GDP earlier.
www.theguardian.com/business/2018/apr/27/uk-gdp-growth-rate-slows-first-quarter

Austerity doesn’t work. It’s failing. People are suffering for no gains. What will it take for people to wake up to this?

auntiebasil · 21/06/2018 10:51

Corbyn deserves to be criticised for his poor judgement and terrible choices. If you don't want to hear that, not a lot I can do.
For me, it trumps everything. I've seen how weak Labour lets the Tories get away with all sorts of shit.

TammySwansonTwo · 21/06/2018 10:53

Just remembered this:
www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2018/02/24/tories-hire-army-tweeters-take-social-media-fight-labour/

Enough said.

auntiebasil · 21/06/2018 10:54

I think @Ohmydayslove was right. I'll leave you to it.
