All they seem to represent us keeping the rich, rich and the poor, poor. There doesn't seem to be that many rich people so why do they get so many votes?

OP posts:
auntiebasil · 19/06/2018 16:04

@Gottagetmoving - wouldn't be because it was the right thing to do, obviously. Had to be a left wing victory. Along with all the other left wing victories like, say, full abortion rights in NI ... no, wait a minute.

auntiebasil · 19/06/2018 16:05

Abbott gets singled out because she's singularly shit and had aspirations for high office.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 19/06/2018 16:06

What are the DUPs thoughts on same sex marriage and abortion?

PolkerrisBeach · 19/06/2018 16:07

You really think Ruth Davidson would be leader of the Scottish Conservatives if they were unaccepting of gay people??

auntiebasil · 19/06/2018 16:08

And I call out Johnson, Gove et al as incompetent useless articles too. I don't save my ire for Abbott.

MidnightAura · 19/06/2018 16:11

I had no choice but to vote Tory, it was that it the Snp and over my dead body would I vote them!

MidnightAura · 19/06/2018 16:12

or the Snp

Justanotherlurker · 19/06/2018 16:13

They do not want a welfare state and they don't care if people cannot afford to live.

And yet Labours last manifesto ran on Not ending the benefit freeze, or reverse the majority of it.

Labour policies in the 2016 election manifesto would have put us slightly to the right of Sweden and Germany - it's a myth that Labour policies are left "socialist"

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/06/2018 16:14

He only said he would scrap tuition fees as he needed the votes from vulnerable, naive youngsters. I doubt they'll vote for him again

I wouldn't bet on it; they'll probably promise something equally unachievable next time and we'll have to listen to all the claptrap about "lovely Jeremy" again Hmm

It's not that I wanted a colossal majority for the Tories, but for me the worst thing about the last election result is that it enabled JC to hang on a bit longer, when a real loss might have seen him and his acolytes gone

What I really want is a sensible, centrist government with a strong opposition to squash any chance of excess, but right now it seems it's too much to ask

carbuncleonapigsposterior · 19/06/2018 16:15

Damage limitation, the Tories certainly aren't great, but Labour under JC doesn't bear thinking about. As it was the last Labour Government left us severely in the red, remember Liam Byrne's "there's no money left" note. People forget social mobility actually went back under the last Labour administration. I'm old enough to remember the '70s and how ruinous a time that was for Britain we were the "sick man of Europe" I would also be seriously worried about freedom of the press under Labour, already the climate has changed in universities, some left wing students will not give a debating platform to certain individuals if they disagree with their stance on some subjects. Then of course there is the "trans" issue, which admittedly does get cross party support within sectors of the Tories/Lib Dems, but no other party endorses that matter quite like Labour with their "identifying as a woman" even if only for a day, Women' Officers. What's ludicrous is that they were prepared to consider that before Dave got rumbled as a piss taker. I'm not sure they are going to do women a lot of favours in spite of all the hot air.

siwel123 · 19/06/2018 16:17

J singled out abbot not because she is black or a women. I singled her out as every interview she does she performs horribly. She missed most of the general election with a condition many people live with.

BlueSapp · 19/06/2018 16:17

You really think Ruth Davidson would be leader of the Scottish Conservatives if they were unaccepting of gay people??

Shes far away and they don't have to do anything with her, try putting her in the chancellors job and then we'll see if they accept the gay conservative!

auntiebasil · 19/06/2018 16:21

"far away "Hmm

It doesn’t have to be like the American system we can look to France or Germany but if we want a service that is good and for all we have to pay more quite a bit more

And those that can't afford to pay? (Unemployed, disabled etc)- Exactly.

Alternatively we could tax the incredibly wealthy sector of society and make tax avoidance (currently through loop holes in the law, differentiated from 'Tax evasion', which is illegal), which rich people use to line their pockets illegal AND miraculously we would have adequate funding for the NHS!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/06/2018 16:27

I don't save my ire for Abbott

IME very few people do ... but while pointing out incompetence in others is often seen as "fair comment", doing the same with this particular wretch sooner or later brings out the suggestions of racism

Tiresome, really

LaurieMarlow · 19/06/2018 16:28

I'm not a big fan of corbyn, but I've no idea why anyone is arguing for (comparative) competence as a reason for voting Tory.

Haven't you been paying attention to the shitshow that is the brexit negotiations? They've shown themselves to be inept, cowardly, dishonest, stupid, I could go on and on. They're an absolute embarrassment, we haven't looked this bad on the world stage since suez.

If people can't stomach Corbyn (fine), then at least vote for the Lib Dems. Nothing on earth could make me vote for a party that has Davies/Johnson/Gove/Rees Mogg front and centre.

lilabet2 · 19/06/2018 16:28

** Increase taxes for the very rich- I meant.

Polly2345 · 19/06/2018 16:28

The vast majority of the mainstream press supports the Tories. So they get far more positive coverage than Labour. The really rich may only be a tiny proportion of this voting but they control the media and can massively influence how others votes.

Ohmydayslove · 19/06/2018 16:32

topcat

Don’t bring out the race card really it’s boring. She’s totally inbomprtant as a front bench and ludicrous as a potential Home Secretary but clearly a good enough constituency MP.

There is incompetence over all the parties but Dianne really did herself no favours by constantly popping up on numerous interviews wnd being frankly laughable.

Her being black doesn’t excuse her not being up to the job. Well for me it doesn’t but then I am not a racist .

Treats · 19/06/2018 16:33

Which party introduced gay marriage?

Actually it was the Lib Dems.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/06/2018 16:34

Increase taxes for the very rich

Granted this doesn't necessarily chime with the politics of envy, but are you aware what % of the total tax take is paid by the "very rich"?

I do agree about the need to clamp down on tax avoidance, but on an individual level do you really think all those already paying so much will hang around to be soaked still further?

Ohmydayslove · 19/06/2018 16:35

polly

Very few people get their political ideas from papers these days.

Metoodear · 19/06/2018 16:41

And Abbot increased her majority by 35,000 votes so she has once again been re-elected by her constituency who value her work. But I’m sure she’s only there because she shagged someone.

Mrs Abbott could not win anywhere else barr London.

London has shown that they ar Corbyn die hard but London hipsters will not get you the keys to number 10 because you see when the largely white hipster trustafairns are sick with multi culturalism and no longer want dread locks

They put there kids in grammers and fuck off the the Home Counties and commute in to the mess they made Boris is bad but she is worse and tbh if you think she is a patch of Javid your somking what the Tory’s wont legalise

whiteonred · 19/06/2018 16:41

Well in Scotland, as a tactical vote against the SNP. And because people think Ruth Davidson seems pretty o.k.

Metoodear · 19/06/2018 16:43

Oh and I am black and I think she’s a dick head

And actually dose more damage to black women by her being in the post black women are already sexualised and her lack of Compacity makes it more likey she’s is post because she was a good shag
