I felt saddened looking at the MOFOD images from the latest holiday because it occurred to me that they're really, really not making precious, personal family memories for their family. Instead, they are churning out endless, staged #makingmemories for the benefit of complete strangers.

When their children are not much older they will see how tarnished and tawdry the provenance of their family life was, because those special and private family moments were peddled to the highest bidder Sad

HRHCatherinePrincessofWales · 10/07/2018 17:25

Why aren't I allowed to say I think MOD is thick? Why was that that post calling her a narcissist deleted? Both of those statements are empirically valid.

She's in the public eye. She's been doing videos with Vogue, for god's sake.

How is she different from any other reality sleb?

Fluffyrainbows · 10/07/2018 18:08

The comments were not nasty they were observations from followers. I don't understand why they are so protected from discussion when you have threads about Boris Johnson and Kate Middleton etc etc. But suggest MOFOD use their kids to make money and every moment is sold can get removed.

Fluffyrainbows · 10/07/2018 18:09

Even the special meal was special it was shared with 1million+ followers...

ARumDo · 10/07/2018 18:19

Yep, it's reality slebsville all the way for MOFOD........ except, of course, there is little real about it. My mother would have had a quiet word in my ear if I had flaunted myself quite so blatantly for a quick bob.

ARumDo · 10/07/2018 18:21

......and does anyone really believe that tagging a product is actually in response to some imaginary dm's - nah, just a quick way to set up the next advertising opportunity.

The comments were not nasty they were observations from followers.

Someone called her 'thick' - that's verging on nasty tbh.

I hate the 'I've had loads of DMs asking where my dress is from'. Such bollocks.

Fluffyrainbows · 10/07/2018 19:01

@moonkissedlegs it's been bought up on threads before and left. I'm not saying it's pleasant of that I would say it, but it's been queried before as a reason for the bizarre comments made and decisions.

Why so invested Princess? Why so much anger? I thought these threads had moved away from MOD bashing? I personally like her new content and focus especially the midwifery aspect, I don’t think she’s thick or a narcissist. Both terms I think are insulting and unjust

That’s RIDICULOUS, monkeys in Thailand! Confused

You see a snippet of it just a moment in their day.

Out of interest do you feel the same towards the Beckhams children or Giovanna Fletcher? I honestly think given the amount of awful truly awful things that happen to children in this country at the hands of their parents and carers your comment is a little over the top

ARumDo · 10/07/2018 19:38

No, I don't think she is thick - just totally unconscionable. She is following these threads - and her response to yesterday's criticism of exploiting her children has been to plaster them all over her page today. An absolute two-fingered response. She is a savvy operator, milking them for every penny and, sadly for her children, she now believes her slebs status makes her untouchable.

its5oclocksomewhere · 10/07/2018 19:39

These influencers behave like monstrous narcissists, feeding off the oxygen of fangirl validation

I was talking about these threads and the whole IG scene to someone over the weekend and saying how some of them have actually found their true calling to be able to ham it up and perform in front of a camera every single day to their adoring audience. To the point that even if they don't have anything interesting to say, they'll still come on and "check in" with us just in case we were getting worried about what they'd been up to for the past 24 hours. When you're picking up your phone to tell strangers on the internet that you're having a cup of tea or you're sitting in your car and telling them you've just been in and done the shopping, I think it's time to put the phone down. Instagram stories has got a lot to answer for.

allaboardtheallergybus · 10/07/2018 19:49

@AdoRum are you taking about MOD? She hasn’t posted anything today on her feed with her kids?

I hope for her own sake and well being she never looks at these threads again, no good can come from them. I have seen the same accounts on IG trying to take her down, tripping her up for even liking a post last week.

ARumDo · 10/07/2018 19:57

Yep, she has a photo of the elder two on her stories right now. I feel sure she is looking, just doesn't give a damn - so no harm done, eh? She (and others like her) will continue to monetise her children and people will continue to say why it's wrong, wrong, wrong!

HRHCatherinePrincessofWales · 10/07/2018 20:03

@allabpardtheallergybus. The Beckhams have a huge PR team and a huge security team to protect their children and carefully manage what is put out there about them. They have never been exploited by the Beckhams for monetary gain. The Beckhams have become wealthy independently of their children.

Their circumstances are so massively different, they’re incomparable. I don’t understand why you brought them up??

I don’t know who Giovanna Fletcher is. But if she chats shit into her phone about dresses once a day and gets paid for putting up pics of her children, then my comments apply to her as well.

I actually think the child aspect is a massive issue for concern. When they appear in ads they are essentially ‘working’ but have none of the protection of children working in, say, TV or print media, which is heavily regulated.

Yes, I do think they perform. And yes, I do suspect they now do it reflexively when they see a camera, since they have had a camera in their face pretty much every day for their short lives.

And, let’s be real, it’s not a ‘snapshot’ captures of a moment in their day. I know from my own children how difficult it is to get a simple holiday pic when they’re all looking in the right direction, with their eyes open, and none of them are gurning or picking their nose. It’s impossible. You look at the polished, staged, pics that FOD posts and you’d be a fool not to think that that one was probably the 35th take and took half an hour to get.

It’s work. They’re putting their children to work. Awful.

SpongeBobGrannyPants · 10/07/2018 20:31

They have never been exploited by the Beckhams for monetary gain

VB had named shoes (that she sells!) after her daughter.

One of the kids is a wannabe singer and they've featured that on social media.

One has also done modelling work for the likes of Burberry.

And that's just what I know from the top of my head. I'm not a big follower of them. I would say they're just a reality show short of being like the Osbournes or kardashians. Hardly a family to be held in high regard for protection of their children's identities.

HRHCatherinePrincessofWales · 10/07/2018 20:37

If you honestly cannot see the difference between a globally-famous, Times 100 rich list-wealthy couple like the Beckhams managing careers for their children, who have been born into that lifestyle and were never realistically going to become estate agents, and a midwife and a middle-management twerp, shilling their children for freebie holidays and washing machines, then there’s no point continuing the conversation.

HRHCatherinePrincessofWales · 10/07/2018 20:40

And the Osbournes may have had a reality show, but Ozzy Osbourne obviously had a massive career as a front man with Black Sabbath before that show. And Sharon Osbourne was a band manager for several huge rock bands. So, again, your comparison doesn’t stand up.

The Kardashians is closer, but even their father was independently famous for defending OJ Simpson.

A more accurate comparison would be John and Kate plus 8 or that Nadia woman in America who had octuplets.

eggandspoonrace · 10/07/2018 20:40

I know it's a term bandied round on here so much but can we just remind ourselves -

narcissist
ˈnɑːsɪsɪst/
noun
1. a person who has an excessive interest in or admiration of themselves."narcissists who think the world revolves around them"

Hmm....

Fluffyrainbows · 10/07/2018 20:40

So weird. Whenever someone is criticised, well actually whenever MOFOD are criticised, the same old accounts pop up spouting nonsense about these poor people being ripped apart, when there are threads that genuinely say terrible things about people and nothing happens.' Kate Middleton looks old, Theresa May is a useless piece of shit' 2 examples amongst many I've read on AIBU in the last few days and no one bats an eyelid. The points raised on here by other posters are absolutely nothing like that, they question the use and flaunting of children to make money and get deals. And then get accused of being terribly over invested or jealous or bitchy.
These people are reality stars. These people are milking their accounts for every penny and every bit of attention and fame they can get, to thousands and hundreds of thousands of people a day, and yet posters come on and say basically it's mean.
Of course they are narcissistic. That's not mean or rude, that's exactly what they are.

allaboardtheallergybus · 10/07/2018 20:41

Princess I see you’re new to these threads may I suggest you read and vent your anger and disgust on instamum threads I think going back to last August? There are many discussions mostly quite intellectual and show critical thinking without the need to call names.
