Aibu Father's Day card from pets

I have happened upon a "fanpage" on Facebook called The world according to Dylan, about what looks like a severely obese cat and the first post is a card "from the cat" to one of the owners.

This strikes me as an odd thing. I've seen people put the animal's name in addition to the rest of the family but not send a card specifically from it.

Do you send cards from your pets to people? Aibu to think this is a bit silly?

I had a great weekend and DH enjoyed his Bournville and slab of Guinness; presents from our children. The dog and hamster didn't give him anything ... they're animals. He is their owner not father

Glad you had a good weekend.

So did I.

The dog gave their father presents.

So we're both happy. No harm done to anyone else. Ain't life grand? Grin

AbsolutelyBeginning · 18/06/2018 09:45

@Domino211

Great card! Love how we got farts onto this thread too, haha.

FluffingtonPost · 18/06/2018 09:50

I'd assume that they had something missing in their lives.

It’s alrwady been brought up in several posts that for a lot of people, it is because there very much is something missing from their lives in that they can’t/ are struggling to have children of their own. Me included. Your scornful, patronising faux ‘sympathy’ is unnecessary thanks.

I feel so sorry for all the miserable people who are sonlcking in their own lives they feel the need to be offended by something so harmless.

FluffingtonPost · 18/06/2018 09:51

So lacking*

tripYouOut · 18/06/2018 09:54

@Emma198

No, and besides which, people have said how wrong I am.

Apparently it's disablist to think that calling pets 'your children' is unusual. We all know how people on MN like to have their language and thoughts controlled so I'll have to leave it.

@AbsolutelyBeginning

"The dog gave their father presents."

You own 2 generations of the dogs or you went and found the seller. If the latter it's a bit sick. The puppies were taken away from him without his consent and then you rubbed it in his face.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 18/06/2018 09:54

DF got a card referring to him as being my dog's DGF (and an excellent DGF at that). He does do a lot of dog sitting!

Does it harm anyone else? No. Is it a bit of fun? Yes.

AbsolutelyBeginning · 18/06/2018 09:57

My DDog's bio father's involvement ended at conception. I met him once - he couldn't have been less interested TBH. Much like some human fathers, I'm afraid.

Now that we have adopted DDog, he very much sees my DH as his father. After all, isn't his father the one who sticks around and does all the work in bringing him up?

tripYouOut · 18/06/2018 10:09

You know that buying and adopting aren't the same, right?

I'd assume that they had something missing in their lives.

I'm quite happy with my life thank you and I enjoy having a bit of fun.

After all, isn't his father the one who sticks around and does all the work in bringing him up?

Exactly. My cat didn't know his real father and DH is the one who empties his litter tray, pays his vets bills and cried when we thought he was very ill. I think a couple of Caramacs and a Solero is the least the cat can do!

BiteyShark · 18/06/2018 10:20

Yes I have something lacking.

I lack a miserable hard nosed, must piss on other people's chips to make myself feel better attitude Grin

I think little silly things help to keep life enjoyable. When they don't impact others then they are even better. I am sure those that are angry or offended could avert their eyes when they see any cards on sale.

Cupofteaforme1 · 18/06/2018 10:21

I made my DH a father's day card from our dog.

It took me absolutely bloody hours and cost a bloody fortune (when you can get one in Home Bargains for 20p!)

But, our dog is the most important member of our family. We completely adore her.

nellieellie · 18/06/2018 10:38

Love this thread. There’s a few grumpy wotsits, but I’ve had a real laugh. On balance, I think the “sad”, “mentally ill”, “weird” people who do get cards from their pets sound the more well adjusted, kind, tolerant, and genuinely funny group as opposed to those who don’t.
Which makes sense because I don’t think my dogs would bother if I was such a meanie.

AbsolutelyBeginning · 18/06/2018 10:46

Dog people - do you ever wonder how your son/daughter will grow up?

No, it was ableist to suggest that they have mental problems.

FluffingtonPost · 18/06/2018 11:04

AbsolutelyBeginning this made me laugh out loud in the office Grin

It is equally true for us cat people too...I do worry I should ration the catnip...Hmm

Grin Love it!

ICantCopeAnymore · 18/06/2018 11:14

It's a commonly used word in my "real world". Perhaps being a wheelchair user makes me more aware of everyday ableism.

It's not "wacky" or "unhealthy" though. It's quite a normal thing, as this thread and the card shops have shown.

To suggest that people with mental health issues are "wacky" is again a vile, ableist comment. Reporting you again.

Because animals aren't children of humans and humans aren't parents of animals. I'd assume that they had something missing in their lives

  1. I think writing a thread about it makes you overly invested in the things which don't concern you not just inquisitive but also accept it is well within your right to do so (just as I can comment on it).
  2. You know what they say about assuming ...
KittyKlaws · 18/06/2018 11:20

FuffingtonPost bravo on the username and cat meme Smile

IslaBoots · 18/06/2018 11:28

My ds bought his dad a card "From your favourite son". DD bought him a card "From your daughter" both opened up for the 'joke'.

I picked up a card "From the dog".

Can't see anything wrong with it. Hubby raised a smile.... nobody was hurt....

bastardlyandmutley · 18/06/2018 12:32

DH got a card and presents from our dogs. We can't have children not that I think it would change me being a soppy twat and wanting to give DH stuff from the dogs on Father's Day. We're not hurting anyone and I don't feel it's anybody's business to judge us.

I put a little chocolate with a little note from the dogs in his work bag today and he phoned me up saying he had found it and how he had choked up a bit. Just proves to me that it is a nice thing.
