To be fucking furious that a Tory MP just prevented upskirting being made a criminal offence?

Tory MP Christopher Chope has just singlehandedly prevented the passing of the private members bill supported by the government that would have made upskirting a sexual offence, by shouting Object.

Can I urge you all to leave a message on his parliamentary office answerphone and email him to ask why he thinks men should be entitled to photograph women's genitalia?

His own bills are deliberately ridiculous as I understand it, there's no intent to make law, and by the same token he blocks others' bills.

Jux · 16/06/2018 19:25

Yes, I imagine he amuses himself greatly in the small hours thinking up silly things he can make into another stupid PMB to be submitted. I bet he's a hoot at dinner parties in good old Christchurch.

manicmij · 16/06/2018 19:30

All is not lost as will be debated again next month. Odds are that the illegal proposal will be passed.

sleep5 · 16/06/2018 19:43

I doubt this bill will help. I had presumed it was illegal already. Those who are obsessed with doing this sort of thing will continue doing so for the thrill of it.

Cameras are only getting smaller and less obvious - you can now buy ones that look like Philips screws. Cameras are becoming smaller and more covert.

I dont...these women are someones daughters

Right, so your response to women being targeted unfairly and wrongly is to target a woman unfairly and wrongly? Why the fuck should she carry the can for her disgusting father?

KatyaZamolodchikova · 16/06/2018 20:13

Good news from my MP who has confirmed she will be attending the next hearing of the bill & will be supporting it.

Because am damm sure if it was his daughter..wife...mother..sister.auntie who was a victim of this' his mouth would of firmly been shut.

NotARegularPenguin · 16/06/2018 20:18

Someone’s put this up at his constituency office! 😁

Andrewofgg · 16/06/2018 20:21

TM has said that Government time will be found for the Bill to be considered properly - which is what should have happened in the first place.

You’re missing my point. You can’t defend women by attacking an innocent woman. I’m sick fucking fed up of women being attacked for the actions of a man. You’re no better than him with your ridiculous idea.

Pollygetthevodkaout · 16/06/2018 20:31

No better than him. Well done lov have one more 🍸

No. It is probably already forbidden but this would make the position clear beyond doubt. Enforcement will be another issue.

He's a total dick, and I say that as a tory voter! He is the worst excuse for a human being in my opinion.
Apparently he disagrees with the parliamentary procedure of private members bill and does this all the time. When he was asked by a woman who has had up skirting happen to him why he did this I said he didn't know what up skirting even was!!! What an absolute prick and the worst kind of MP imaginable.

metrorider · 16/06/2018 23:26

Someone on Twitter came up with this ingenious protest at his office.

SoddingUnicorns · 16/06/2018 23:35

metro that is fucking brilliant!
“Did you do the back door?” Arf.

And his DD bollocked him on twitter and he was rude to her!

kaitlinktm · 17/06/2018 10:03

" I think the general objection to this law is that it’s already covered by other laws so is unnecessary, rather than this MP thinking it is okay. "

The whole point is that it isn't covered though. Voyeurism only covers acts which should be expected to be carried out in private - like in changing rooms/toilets etc. Women wear skirts in public, so it is a loophole which needs to be closed.

PigletJohn · 17/06/2018 10:42

You may have noticed that it already outlawed in Scotland. Some Scottish politicians have been claiming that this is because the Scots are more aware of attacks of women.

Consider, however.

At formal and social events, many Scottish politicians and ministers wear kilts.

Speakeasy · 17/06/2018 11:17

Good for him. The effect would have been to criminalise young boys. when I was at school the lads carried a small mirror so they could see up our skirts when we walked past their desks or up the stairs on the bus. Do we really want to see yet another swathe of adolescent youths criminalised?

SoddingUnicorns · 17/06/2018 11:19

@PigletJohn aye, we introduced a law to protect women from perverts to protect men in kilts.

Some folk just can’t accept that Scotland did something and take it for what it is, there has to be some kind of snide undertone.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 17/06/2018 11:27

So.... we shouldn't even begin to teach young boys that such behaviour is an unwanted intrusion?

OK! Women of the World... step down... all is well, your knickers are in good hands... or rather on lots of phones! All is well, I say, all is well!

Andrewofgg · 17/06/2018 11:31

He has a shadow of a point. Parliament should not create new imprisonable offences - and if what this Bill covers is already an offence it is pointless - without proper debate and full consideration. TM has promised parliamentary time for that.

Doubletrouble99 · 17/06/2018 11:31

As a Scot in Scotland, I can't say up skirting with a camera is a thing women do here!!
It really has nothing to do with kilts on men! As for the idea that youths with mirrors at school is a 'thing' well have you seen the 'skirts' schoolgirls wear these days they are so tight and short there's no way anyone will be getting a mirror or a camera between their legs!
Anyway, I don't know what sort of school you went to Speakeasy but in my comp. in the 60s and 70s that didn't happen to any discernible extent and if it did it would be stamped on straight away.
