Tory MP Christopher Chope has just singlehandedly prevented the passing of the private members bill supported by the government that would have made upskirting a sexual offence, by shouting Object.

Can I urge you all to leave a message on his parliamentary office answerphone and email him to ask why he thinks men should be entitled to photograph women's genitalia?

He does not object to all PMBs - he’s even introduced some himself and voted in favour of others. I just don’t understand why this lie that he's acting out of principle keeps being repeated

I can only assume that the way to get this passed would be to include a part of the bill making it illegal for women to shove phones down men’s trousers and take pictures.

The problem is that..

a) some men seem to like doing this to themselves anyway and sending the resulting pics to women - presumably in order to sexually assault them by text as no-one could possibly be tantalised by a flaccid penis

b) I’ve never heard of a woman committing this particular crime and so therefore by it’s rarity it does not require legislation to prevent it.

Christopher Chope is an utter wanker and a disgrace to his party and his constituency.

Only reasons I can think of he could possibly want to block it are

1. he enjoys upskirt porn,
2. he has been paid off by someone who likes upskirt porn,
3. he's a massive fuckwit.

Now options one and two I don't get why they can't just use sites that pay consenting models, so if it's one of those options it must be that they also like that it is illicit/stolen/with no consent. Vile.

Apparently he objects to all of the PMBs- these are not very well attended and he sees it as a lazy way of getting into law, particularly given that someone cango to jail for it.

I absolutely agree with the bill and it should be introduced in law but I kind of see his point, I mean it apprears that one MP tried to get a foreign national should be deported if they take a can of beer into a football stadium passed through.

Just to add, I am definitely not a fan of the tories.

This makes me so angry. The apologists can go to hell. What could there be to debate? Any MP could have, should have and many probably did, make themselves aware of all the facts before the vote which was why it already had government support and was expected to pass. The necessary details will be worked out and scrutinised at later stage. It could never be bad law - the debate is only for whether it is needed, and to any right thinking person, it clearly is.

If he doesn't speak for all Tories then prove it and expel him from the party.

I think out of respect for women and common decency we NEED to see the bloody HoC full to bloody bursting on July 6th.

If every single MP (only extreme exceptions excused) does not show their face to vote on this bill with their fullest support, then we will know exactly where evil lies and has a hand in enabling it.

I’ve emailed number 10 asking for something to be done about Chope. I’ve explained that my preference would be to have him deselected, although making him wear skirts for the remainder of his time in Parliament would also be appropriate.

He apparently objects to Private Members Bills a lot. But also introduces a good number himself. I think there is some kind of warped sense of gatekeeping going on.

Strangely it’s more likely to become law now, as to rectify the plonker the government will push it through themselves. I think even a second reading of a private members bill is a long way from law.
