I know FIFA and Russia and whoever is involved is horrible in some way... But it's the actual World Cup. Mexico v South Korea suddenly becomes hugely important to my life! England have a likeable squad and manager. Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar. Spain sacking their manager yesterday.

It's so exciting isn't it!

How did he miss that.

RhinoGirl · 28/06/2018 20:24

Who do we play if we come first?

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 28/06/2018 20:26

Japan. Colombia if second.

ToffeeUp · 28/06/2018 20:26

Colombia if first
Japan when second

BitchQueen90 · 28/06/2018 20:27

@Rhinogirl Japan if we come first, Colombia if we come second. But if we come first we will eventually play Brazil whereas we won't if we come second. I think England want to avoid playing Brazil.

siwel123 · 28/06/2018 20:27

Both not great teams so it would be good to win tbh

ToffeeUp · 28/06/2018 20:27

Other way round, oops

siwel123 · 28/06/2018 20:28

Ah don't fancy Brazil though

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 28/06/2018 20:29

I think second is best. We've played well enough to beat Colombia, then we'd face either Sweden or Switzerland after that.

Amanduh · 28/06/2018 20:30

I feel sooooo bad hoping the result stays like this! But.. I do

ToffeeUp · 28/06/2018 20:30

Batshiayi's goal celebration was funny

ToffeeUp · 28/06/2018 20:33

Why is Alexander Arnold on all the free kicks and corners?

BonnieF · 28/06/2018 20:36

After all that nonsense against Panama on Sunday, this feels reassuringly familiar.

We’re losing, we look flat, we keep giving the ball away, we’re not creating chances there is a brass band parping away tunelessly in the stand.

It’s just like watching England....

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 28/06/2018 20:41

Actually, considering England havent fielded the strongest side, we are playing ok. We dont need to win, so no pressure.

BonnieF · 28/06/2018 20:47

Neither have Belgium, and they are winning...

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 28/06/2018 21:04

Belgium are 3rd in the rankings. England are 12th, and we still held them at 1 - nil. We are in better position now, then we would have been topping the group.

84CharingCrossRoad · 28/06/2018 21:09

To make you smile ☺. My lovely Wilf who has learning disabilities has just told me that Germery is out of The World Cup!!
I prefer his spelling!! 😂 😂 😂 😂

Amanduh · 28/06/2018 21:15

Rankings mean nothing. We were no worse than Belgium. We fielded a flat side. They were ok. I guess that was GS intention to get prepared for the next game. We really weren’t bad!
How scary is it now though. I’ve got the nerves. We knew no matter what we were through and a loss could be good. Been a long time! This now feels like Tuesday is Doomsday arrrrgggghhhh!!

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 28/06/2018 21:15

In a way good result but after Iceland that time.. Daft to underestimate Colombia.

If was England's first pick against this Belguim side think then they'd be more panic though. Both made so many changes so can't read to much into it

Onto the next

BitchQueen90 · 28/06/2018 21:17

@84CharingCrossRoad Grin is Wilf a football fan?

siwel123 · 28/06/2018 21:20

Agreed. We didn't play amazing but we won't play Brazil if we beat Colombia.
So I think losing has done us good.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 28/06/2018 21:21

Exactly. Rested first team, longer to prepare. Colombia are a good team, but so are we. It should be a good game.

84CharingCrossRoad · 28/06/2018 21:24

@BitchQueen90 He is a HUGE Chelsea fan!!!

LapsedHumanist · 29/06/2018 10:45

I really thought all three of Senegal, Japan and Columbia deserved to go through based on their performances, especially compared to how much easier some other groups were. Any of them would have deserved it compared to say Russia or Argentina based on performances.

It’s life or death for the Colombians though. That’s what they just blew the Polish off the pitch.

Not liking the effect the fair play aspect is affecting the final game. I don’t blame the Japanese for just playing it safe- their whole culture is about not breaking the rules so they’re obviously going to pick that over taking a risk. But the logic of how it’s set up like that is wrong.

RoseWhiteTips · 29/06/2018 11:12

It amuses me the way some people are trying to put a positive spin on England's defeat.
Oh we definitely know you were being clever and deliberately losing in order to avoid Brazil. Really believe you. 🙄
The fact is England’s reserves were much less skilled than Belgium’s reserves. That was a classy goal.
