To wonder how many of you are ready for hard Brexit, after today's Common's vote?

flibbertyfive · 12/06/2018 23:59

Because that's what's now happening, very soon.

PS According to the civil servants I know, it will be utter chaos - there has been literally basically no preparation for this at all. Because the bloody politicians can't make up their minds for what they want/expect to happen. So there are no contingency plans whatsoever.

Hope you're happy and looking forward to the chaos if you voted for Leave.

JRM is moving his assets and businesses to the EU. That's a great gong for Brexit isn't it.

lostinsunshine · 14/06/2018 18:56

Trusting posh boys to run this country doesn't have a good track record.

watchingwithinterest · 14/06/2018 18:57

his capital investment vehicle will be able to operate within the EU (Ireland), if things go full on Brexit.

If you knew anything at all about capital investments you would know that JRM is not doing this himself! These decisions will be made within the company and they will make their own decisions. JRM has many business interests, he does not need to justify how each of them works.

He is not the PM yet you know, so he can do as he pleases just like you or me!!

It sounds like you are excited too for a new PM. All good.

Absolutely - completely agree.

Why more of the crowd on here don’t see eu exploitation of Northern Ireland as cynical and dangerous I don’t understand.

But remember - we are a sovereign country! Not that it feels like it.

Moussemoose · 14/06/2018 18:59

Yet another Brexit thread with points not addressed or unanswered.

It's just so depressing poster baying to leave but totally unable to form coherent arguments.

lostinsunshine · 14/06/2018 19:00

Was the money just resting in his account? Father Ted joke. Look it up.

keyboardkate · 14/06/2018 19:00

The Irish Government will be no pushover in this.

Must be strange for SOME Brexiteers to realise that Ireland is an EU member and is quite entitled to be supported by that Club.

To the PP who said this is a bargaining chip in a Casino. Shame on you. The Peace Process was very hard won, and NO ONE wants it to return to those days.

And just to mention, The Good Friday Agreement had no EU involvement either, did you not know that?

watchingwithinterest · 14/06/2018 19:01

The Irish border is, in fact The UK border with the EU

I am fully aware of that sunshine, and if the EU want to build fucking Hadrian's wall they can by all means, but we won't be part of it. There is absolutely no reason to think this will cause an issue. There are borders all over the world that operate perfectly well without armed check points.

This is the EU inflating a sensitive issue to stir up as much bad feeling as possible. It is an absolute disgrace.

Heyduggeesflipflop · 14/06/2018 19:01

Moose - don’t forget that leavers won the argument, not you. Everything since is merely sabotage. But who needs democracy if it gives the wrong answer eh?

siwel123 · 14/06/2018 19:02

I think if we have to do brexit, I think staying in the customs union but not the single market would be our best bet a bit like turkey but try negotiate services into the deal as well.

We know we will be screwed if we can't easily trade with the EU and this will please the leavers on immigration.
Well that's what I hope for

lostinsunshine · 14/06/2018 19:03

The EU is not inflating a sensitive issue. It's a sensitive issue that Leavers ignored. Remind me how NI voted? Oh yeah, for Remain. I wonder why?

Havanananana · 14/06/2018 19:03

@ Earthakitty

Sorry, but your post about EU immigrants living off benefits etc cannot go unchallenged.

Under existing EU rules, a person moving to another EU country has 3 months in which to find work or otherwise prove that they can support themselves. If they cannot do this, they are required to leave the country.

I can assure you that this is strictly enforced throughout the EU. I have lived and worked in several EU countries and the process is always the same - registration with the police or local town hall is required within 48 hours of arrival and a meeting to confirm employment status, health insurance and housing status is required no later than 3 months after the initial registration (unless this was all confirmed when registering).

The only EU country that has never enforced this is the UK, so let me ask you, if this were to be enforced, would Brexit be necessary?

PS - almost 2 million UK citizens live and work in the EU, including thousands in the Eastern European states.

Your beloved eu are using Ireland as a tool.

So shame on you for your encouragement of eu involvement in matters that have nothing to do with them.

And you wonder why the Lib Dem’s are irrelevant. Perhaps a mirror is called for

watchingwithinterest · 14/06/2018 19:05

Heyduggeesflipflop "Why more of the crowd on here don’t see eu exploitation of Northern Ireland as cynical and dangerous I don’t understand.

We are not a sovereign nation yet, and this is what we are working hard to achieve. After we saw the EU move into Greece (and are still running the country by proxy) and last week's move in Italy (that lasted all of two days) how anyone can come on this forum and defend the EU is beyond me.

Like a brainwashed cult they follow the EU without thinking.

It is pitiful to see the lack of independent thinking. Perhaps we should blame the education system in this country for producing docile sheep instead of smart thinkers.

lostinsunshine · 14/06/2018 19:06

Heyduggs. You still haven't answered why NI voted Remain. Maybe they realised it was a sensitive issue being ignored by jolly old English Brexiteers.
Was it a close vote? Yes. As was the national vote.

Heyduggeesflipflop · 14/06/2018 19:07

Lostinsunshine

God knows - it’s not as if we don’t lavish money on them is it...

Heyduggeesflipflop · 14/06/2018 19:08

A close referendum result? Only if you count millions of votes as ‘close’

DontMakeMeShushYou · 14/06/2018 19:10

We are not a sovereign nation yet

Yes, we are a sovereign nation. Already. We always have been. Being part of the EU did not stop us from being so.

I despair that people are still spouting (and believing) this crap!

watchingwithinterest · 14/06/2018 19:10

Havanananana

That is not strictly true though is it, because we pay for their healthcare, we pay for a whole host of free dental/eye care for children, we provide free schools, free meals, free hospitals and free maternity. We offer free libraries and free museums. It is free to go to a doctor any time you like.

In Poland for instance as with most eastern european countries you pay for EVERY SINGLE one except schools.

So of course they are better of here.

Do you know much it costs to see a Polish doctor for ten minutes?

Thought not.

watchingwithinterest · 14/06/2018 19:10

of - off

mrcharlie · 14/06/2018 19:10

Let's hope for the sake of our EU friends that Brexit is stable, because if the UK goes down a lot of EU states will suffer I suspect.

Yes. I voted leave. Why?? As a British tradesmen I simply could not compete with the influx of cheap foreign trades. Unfortunately at the time I had financial obligations that made it impossible to compete with migrant workers who were being helped financially by the uk tax payer. In short I hung up my toolbelt, sold my van and took a numbskull local job. Not a day passes without me receiving messages from past recruitment firms desperate for me and others like me who decided to get out rather than struggle financially.

I sincerely hope it's a hard brexit, I sincerely hope it knocks this country flat - yes I am bitter, very bitter. Having to give up your livelihood because foreign workers have flooded the market and driven down the pay. It's ok for many of you lot with your fancy jobs and fabulous pensions, none of you gave a shit about anything except yourselves.
Well, the people were asked to vote and vote they did.

Hopefully after initial "teething " problems Britain will find its feet.

Other than that, lI could not give a shit!!
Be hopes all the silly fuckers who've maxed out their cards to impress others have geared up ready for the plunge.

What goes around........

Havanananana · 14/06/2018 19:11

The EU are using the Irish border to as a bargaining chip in a casino, it is is utterly disgraceful fashion when you consider how many people have died and suffered over the years

The Leave campaign has always insisted that if there can be no deal, then the UK can operate under WTO Rules. These rules dictate that there must be a customs border between trading blocs and non-member countries, so in this case between the EU and the UK - i.e. the Irish border.

The country that is changing its position in relation to the rest of the world is the UK, not Ireland (or the EU). Any issues that arise from the Brexit decision are entirely down to the UK.

At the very least, Leave supporters could face up to the consequences of their own actions instead of blaming everyone else.

watchingwithinterest · 14/06/2018 19:14

Heyduggs. You still haven't answered why NI voted Remain.

I will answer that question. NI does not have the huge immigration problem that we have here, they don't have an immigration problem full stop. So for them this is not a massive issue. So why would they vote leave if it is not affecting them? It would be pretty weird to have seen any other result, I was amazed the leave vote was as high it was.

lostinsunshine · 14/06/2018 19:16

I love that the new Brexit fantasy is that the NI/ROI border issue is just the EU stirring up trouble. If it wasn't so tragic it would be hilarious.
