To wonder how many of you are ready for hard Brexit, after today's Common's vote?

flibbertyfive · 12/06/2018 23:59

Because that's what's now happening, very soon.

PS According to the civil servants I know, it will be utter chaos - there has been literally basically no preparation for this at all. Because the bloody politicians can't make up their minds for what they want/expect to happen. So there are no contingency plans whatsoever.

Hope you're happy and looking forward to the chaos if you voted for Leave.

"No one else is copying us". This handy chart might explain why. It also explains why Leavers are so glad to be shot of the EU. Over half of the members states are simply parasites living off the taxes of other countries.

Ohsuchaperfectday
Whenever I have dipped into these threads the main poster I remember was banned.. A rabid remainer who was vicious... Spewed out crap in huge amounts

What you have to remember is that posters/people have short memories, and they write their own history.

flibbertyfive · 13/06/2018 22:30

Ohsuch - so name and shame.

I have no idea who you're referring to.

claig was a leaver but not banned, afaik.

siwel123 · 13/06/2018 22:33

@scatterolight. Wow that's actually quite amazing. Shocking how many countries take out so much more and how a few big countries bankroll and let them.

flibbertyfive · 13/06/2018 22:36

HateIsNotGood

Stop trying to bully me off my own thread.

It's rather rude.

If you want a thread about wine and cheese, feel free to start one. I might even join in.

But this one is about Brexit.

Just saw this on twitter, and I thought of you:

"Nine lessons of Russian Propaganda"

I congratulate you for your excellent use of rules 7 ("Move the conversation"), and 8 ("Pollute the information space").

Sure it'll be bonus time for you this month!

Or do you get a deduction when someone spots you using playbook??

Oh dear. Ooops. You need to be a bit subtler next time.

flibbertyfive · 13/06/2018 22:39

scatterolight - funny how all the other big countries in Europe are keen to stay in the EU, then.

Clearly, they should be basing their economic policy on the views of an anonymous poster on MN. Hmm

Havanananana · 13/06/2018 22:40

People have endured a massive uncaulable amount of shit since the eu. Thier lives and standard of living have plummeted. Things can't get worse.

In the 1970's the UK was the sick man of Europe. Broke. Poverty and unemployment rife. Working 3-day weeks for 3 days pay. Politicians and the public looked across the Channel in bewilderment, unable to comprehend how the European countries were getting ever more prosperous and how they had gone from the almost total destruction of cities, infrastructure and industries to the successful nations that they are today.

40 years on and it seems that large sections of the UK have still not understood. Europe is built on cooperation and compromise, not exceptionalism and confrontation. Britain has never understood this. Watch the behaviour during PMQ in 'the mother of all parliaments' - supposedly intelligent and erudite individuals showing disrespect to their fellow politicians and ultimately showing disrespect to the electorate. Britain should be ashamed.

A large proportion of the UK still believes that the UK way is the only way; that 'they need us more than we need them'; that all the 'shit' in their lives has been caused by the EU (rather than by 40 years of hopeless domestic politics from both major parties, poor investment decisions by politicians and businesses alike, poor productivity, poor planning of healthcare, education and training needs and so on).

For many people, life as part of the EU has provided prosperity and opportunity far beyond what the UK could have achieved if it had remained outside. For others, the EU has been the easy scapegoat for everything that they dislike. You might think that things cannot get much worse. If there is a hard, no-deal Brexit on March 29th, I'm afraid you will find out how wrong you are.

siwel123 · 13/06/2018 22:41

Why call people Russian bots and trolls. People are trying tobhave a discussion and just because it's different to yours doesn't mean you can call them trolls and paid to lie bots.

mothertruck3r · 13/06/2018 22:41

Why does what happened in the Commons yesterday mean a hard Brexit? I thought Powell was saying the complete opposite - that Brexiteers won't get a hard Brexit?

I know this is the Express but;

time4chocolate · 13/06/2018 22:44

Time 4, do you remember name of nasty poster who was banned?
Do you mean our small brown furry friendWink

I think claig was just following instructions
For what purpose with regard to Trump?

keyboardkate · 13/06/2018 22:45

Re the comment of supporting the LDs if you were against Brexit, well the first past the post voting system in UK does not EVER result in representative democracy.

Now if there was a single transferable vote/proportional representation things would be a lot different.

This has to be borne in mind when people speak of the "will of the people", it doesn't translate into anything meaningful except a Red/Blue Government interchangeable every few years.

But that's what we've got and seems FPTP is acceptable.

Redactio · 13/06/2018 22:48

Scatterolight:
That's a very interesting graph. I think I understand why Germany is content to be a net contributor, but what on Earth is in it for Italy?

flibbertyfive · 13/06/2018 22:49

Great post, Havanananana :)

Well worth reading.

I'm ready yes.

I voted leave. I believe it's a positive step that may take a little time.

Scaremongering from either side isn't going to help.

Ohsuchaperfectday · 13/06/2018 22:51

The sick man of Europe!!

Really and how big is the UK to say Poland whose aid it rushed too in ww2? Confused
The UK size and wealth compared the weight it punched in those wars?

No wonder we suffered massive repercussion and problems after, bloody hell!!

Can any one tell me of any European agreements pre eu that have worked....

Any?
They don't work. They have never worked. What we have now is vicious right wing... And equally vicious leftwing on rise.. It's dreadful. Read some history people?!!!

MongerTruffle · 13/06/2018 22:59

Really and how big is the UK to say Poland whose aid it rushed too in ww2?

That "aid" consisted of a half-hearted probe, two days late, into the wrong side of the Third Reich.

HateIsNotGood · 13/06/2018 22:59

Bloody hell - well ta very much for a job ref OP. Bully you, if that's your stance, you can own that one fer shure.

Meanwhile, before I hop off to bed - if there are any Russians out there wanting to pay me for my words you know where to find me.

To clarify - that's 25p per word.

It's ok that I can still retire in Albania? Really comrade don't forget our agreement and put that gun away.

Sweet dreams OP - I'm a Russian paid to write words on Mumsnet...

I laugh quietly so I don't wake you.

Buteo · 13/06/2018 23:01

For what purpose with regard to Trump?

Trump and Brexit were closely linked, push Trump and reinforce all the same Brexit ideology (teh left behinds, teh will of the people) at the same time.

woman11017 · 13/06/2018 23:06

it will be utter chaos Is?
Has any one been able to book with Ryanair and Easyjet from March 2019?

Buteo · 13/06/2018 23:14

EasyJet schedules currently end at 24th March 2019 on the website.

siwel123 · 13/06/2018 23:38

@Monger. So not millions of UK lives lost then?

MongerTruffle · 14/06/2018 06:22

From Wikipedia: "The United Kingdom and France declared war on Germany on 3 September, but their assistance to Poland was very limited."

The PP said that the UK "rushed" to help Poland, so I am assuming that she is referring to the Invasion of Poland (which was the start of World War II), but the aid provided was not any better later in the war.

On the other hand...

Woken up this morning and Brexit still hasn't happened, nearly two years on from the vote, so I am happy with my claim that it isn't actually going to happen. Feel free to disabuse me of this notion Grin
