To wonder how many of you are ready for hard Brexit, after today's Common's vote?

flibbertyfive · 12/06/2018 23:59

Because that's what's now happening, very soon.

PS According to the civil servants I know, it will be utter chaos - there has been literally basically no preparation for this at all. Because the bloody politicians can't make up their minds for what they want/expect to happen. So there are no contingency plans whatsoever.

Hope you're happy and looking forward to the chaos if you voted for Leave.

Your original (and ridiculous) point was that the eu somehow checks Russian ambition

Here’s a hint: it doesn’t. At least nato could if it chose - what is the eu going to do?

Luisa27 · 14/06/2018 16:44

Boris blows everything up, he’s an utterly narcissistic cock. The whole Brexshit debacle is a pathetic shambles fuelled by the likes of IDS, Rees Mogg, Cash, and the appalling Peter Bone. We’re the laughing stock of Europe - whereas before the UK was, on the whole, looked upon by other Europeans as open, liberal, cosmopolitan, it’s now seen as bigoted, uncultured and small minded by many.
Total embarrassment.
I hope we’ll all have the opportunity to vote on the terms of any deal, and that we vote to REMAIN

lostinsunshine · 14/06/2018 16:45

Russia invaded Crimea to stop Ukraine thinking it could just join the EU like the Baltic States did.

Moussemoose · 14/06/2018 17:10

If the EU was not a check on Russia why was Russia so concerned about Ukraine potentially joining the EU?

Historically Russia has wanted a European buffer zone and dislikes its near neighbours allying closely with Western Europe, economically and militarily. The EU which now stretches to Russian boarders is a great cause of discomfort to Russia hence why the want the U.K. to leave and weaken the EU.

The EU definitely checks Russia.

Heyduggeesflipflop · 14/06/2018 17:20

Poor confused souls - you should read your history. Crimea and Ukraine are both seen as Russian by Russia (containing as they do, ethnic Russians). Before you out me as a russian cyber troll bot from the future I will say Russian behaviour has been abhorrent in both cases.

But conflate away - I’m sure Russia was really actually bothered about the eu... I will say it again: nato underwrites European security not the eu. And of course nato really means America, on which note I think American taxpayers have a justified right in feeling pissed off given world war 2 finished some time ago

After all, the eu is simply a trading bloc with absolutely no ambitions to become a superstate that takes our national sovereignty away piece by piece...

Yorkshiretolondon · 14/06/2018 17:31

Shambolic shambles.... I wish I had the option of applying for a different passport but unfortunately I’m English through and through.......help.... any marriage proposals gratefully received 😜

Mrsstrange · 14/06/2018 17:40

It's like watching sheep waiting to jump off the cliff waving the union jack. Britain should stay in, send good people to Brussels and help reform the EU. Sterling would rocket and investment would flood in.

RGNstaffnurse · 14/06/2018 17:40

I do not trust MPs to be able to hold a party in a brewery. The open door policy has lead us to this point. On a 26 bed ward 5 are English 7 do not speak a word of English and the rest are manageable. The 7 take a lot more time up because our trust will not pay for an interpreter so we have to find another member of staff in the building to translate or use prompt boards to communicate. On a busy ward it is not easy at the best of times.

lostinsunshine · 14/06/2018 17:41

Part Ukrainian with a degree in Russian and extensive experience of living in Russia. They believe they "own" Crimea and have historic links to Ukraine (Kievan Rus') that mean they didn't want it in anything other than their influence. The alternative for Ukraine was the EU. But , hey, what do I know about it. I voted Remain and automatically know nothing as well as being deluded.

Elspeth12345 · 14/06/2018 17:43

No, nor will I ever be.

threatmatrix · 14/06/2018 17:48

It's funny how all the countries like Switzerland, Denmark etc are doing well and all the countries that are in the EU are going to rack and ruin.

Currywurstmitpommes · 14/06/2018 17:50

So who will be Marching on the 23rd June. Lets demand another vote!

TheMouseTrap · 14/06/2018 17:51

Voting leave was akin to setting fire to your house to see what would happen, then realising you hadn't renewed your house insurance once it had burnt to the ground.

inuk2004 · 14/06/2018 17:53

The one thing that worried me about Brexit was the politicians and their ability to get together and work out the best deal for the country. Possibly i was giving them too much credit to stop all their back stabbing to get a cohesive plan into action?

On a plus note I am from a New Zealand farming family originally and we went through our own Brexit many years ago. To be fair it was forced on us by the UK joining the common market and other factors. Once upon a time the UK took 80% of what NZ produced (a bit over top to be honest and really putting all your eggs in one basket). This fig dropped to 37% by 1970 and onto 5% in 2007.

The point is that NZ survived and flourished. You are the UK, a much bigger and powerful entity, there may be some pain at the beginning but you will also survive and flourish, I'm sure of it, so much so that i haven't booked a ticket home Wink (i am legal by the way.....)

Tattygran14 · 14/06/2018 17:54

What is the matter with you all. This is a fantastic country, which is why everybody wants to live here. We are perfectly able to govern ourselves, without the crap we've had wished on us from knee jerk gravy train politicians in the e u. Man up. I'm with truckdrive.

Moussemoose · 14/06/2018 17:56

Denmark is in the EU.

Forgive my limited knowledge of Eastern European politics but I think you missed some points.

The Baltic states are also seen as belonging to Russia by Russia. All the Baltic states have many 'ethnic' Russians there. Russia was extremely threatened when they joined the EU which is why they ensured other countries ie Ukraine would not follow them into the EU.

The EU runs parallel to NATO the economic wing of NATOs military might. It is not either or, to imagine it is just NATO that offers security is naive.

Also the point several posters have made the US is the main contributor to NATO and they could not be considered a stable and secure ally at the moment.

Heyduggeesflipflop · 14/06/2018 17:57

Currywurst

Right on sister! Let’s keep voting until the people give us the correct answer!!!

Shell4429 · 14/06/2018 17:57

I’m exhausted by it all. I despair at the people who think the results of a Tory government and capitalism are the fault of the EU. Wages will be even lower in the future. Immigrants take low paid jobs but it’s not their fault wages are low. It’s because the rich are exploiting the poor. Divide and conquer. Wake up people, it’s the Tories who have led us to where we are, not the EU!

Heyduggeesflipflop · 14/06/2018 17:58

Moussemoose

It’s not your knowledge I doubt: it’s your judgement

Heyduggeesflipflop · 14/06/2018 18:02

Shell

Guess your not a Tory voter then...

They are shite but better them than corbyn and his merry band. You will say they are well intentioned and I’m sure they are. They are also incompetent and dangerous

The only point at which I will regret my leave vote is if they are voted in immediately post Brexit (assuming we ever do actually Brexit)

SingingOutOfTune · 14/06/2018 18:03

Flibertyfive very well put. My company is really struggling with recruiting engineering staff already. And a friend who owns a elderly care agency is in despair. There aren't many british people who are prepared to do certain jobs and not many qualifying in engineering and IT.
I am dreading brexit. And manufacturing companies are announcing closures with thousands of jobs going.
UK is a tiny country population wise. I don't think that we are such an attractive market for trade deals as people would like to think. Particularly if we don't want to accept goods that are below the standads offered via the EU.

Virgo28 · 14/06/2018 18:05

I don't blame the people who voted to leave. I blame the politicians who in the run up to the vote did nothing but argue and cause confusion. What they should of done is act like adults and give people facts to make an informed decision.

lostinsunshine · 14/06/2018 18:07

@Moussemoose is quite correct. Russia was much weaker when the Baltic States joined the EU and Putin has seen it as part of his big man schtick to keep Ukraine out.

LynnCrow · 14/06/2018 18:10

March in London, Saturday 23rd June, Pall Mall, midday.
It's for a people's vote on the final deal.
It needs to be huge!
It's our only hope.
Get yourselves there, we should be on the street about this appalling shambles that is sacrificing the wellbeing of our country and the futures of our children.

keyboardkate · 14/06/2018 18:11

There will be no hard brexit now. The hypoctrite elites have shown us that they prefer EU protection even though they are Brexiteers.

But they can do this whilst others cannot. Such a shambolic result. But it was inevitable.

BINO and Fudge. That could become an ice cream lol, but there we are.
