To wonder how many of you are ready for hard Brexit, after today's Common's vote?

Because that's what's now happening, very soon.

PS According to the civil servants I know, it will be utter chaos - there has been literally basically no preparation for this at all. Because the bloody politicians can't make up their minds for what they want/expect to happen. So there are no contingency plans whatsoever.

Hope you're happy and looking forward to the chaos if you voted for Leave.

If the EU decides we must all wear green socks on a Friday, and passes the laws to do so, we will be wearing green socks on a Friday.

and you wonder why leave voters don't get taken seriously.

flibbertyfive Do you really believe this nonsense about the Russian bots

watchingwithinterest · 13/06/2018 12:39

OP if you must derail your own thread with a racist post about Russians because you have lost the argument, you could bow out gracefully by thanking everyone for their input, in a civilised fashion.

A4710Rider - always good to go to the most recent article for the most recent update.

You posted an article from Jan 2018 saying airlines would be fine.

I posted an article from March 2018 saying planes would be grounded.

So the latest news suggests...planes will be grounded in the event of a hard Brexit, now looking pretty much a certainty.

I posted an article from

At least I will be able to vote out any party that does not protect womens rights

Well, your choices are fairly limited tbh so I'd be interested to see how that goes. And you're assuming others will vote as you do in order to get the result you want. In all likelihood we're destined for an era of hung parliaments and 'elected dictatorship'.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 13/06/2018 12:42

The working class weren't convinced to vote Brexit because of Russian "bots

fibbertyfive

You are getting desperate now, another shock and awe tactic coming. You are losing us now pal, bow out gracefully.

All flights will be grounded in March? That comment is going to come back and bite you firmly on the arse. Utterly ridiculous.

harshbuttrue1980 · 13/06/2018 12:43

There are plenty of advantages to Brexit, and that is why most people who voted voted for it. We can have an Australian-style points based immigration policy. That doesn't mean no immigration, it means having immigration based on the type of migrants we need and where there are skills shortages. So if, as the truck driver on page 1 says, we don't need truck drivers, we don't let foreign truck drivers come in. This stops the wages for UK truck drivers falling, and keeps them in work.

On the other hand, we have shortages of dentists, so we can let in dentists. We can also get the best dentists, wherever they are from, whether it is France or India. At the moment, people from Europe come over and they might not be as good as the person from India but they will get the job.

Not everyone believes in total free movement of labour. I don't. I believe in filling skills shortages with appropriately qualified labour. These should also be the best workers for the job, not giving Europeans an advantage over for example Asians or Africans.
I worked in Dubai when when I started out as a teacher. They needed an Economics teacher, so I filled that gap. When my job ceased to exist, I came back home to the UK. There was none of the nonsense of deciding to stay and live off benefits paid for by the Dubai taxpayer.

It would be all very lovely to remove all borders in the world (and would make cleaners and nannies cheaper for middle class mumsnetters), but the fact is that we don't have unlimited money or space for an unlimited population.

Yeah you’re really selling the case for Leave Europe with that one.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Start reading Carole Cadwalldr and James Patrick on this.

The UK Electoral Commission certainly believes it. And is investigating it.

But of course, an anonymous person on the internet citing no proof is an absolute guarantee that Russia is not involved. Hmm

Because Russia has ABSOLUTELY NO HISTORY of paying anonymous people on the internet to make their case for them. Hmm

So, an Irish airline sends out a press release and the whole UK aviation industry comes to a halt. Laughable, bloody laughable. Because the EU won't accept CAA licences as valid. Mwahaahaha...honestly, flibberty it isn't just a question of reading articles, it helps if you actually something about the subject (ie: aviation) as well.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 13/06/2018 12:45

On the aviation issue - just like to add this;

I am now extremely worried.

I think there are two timeframes here. Firstly, there's what happens when we exit - in the days and weeks after that date. I can see all kinds of chaos happening. It sounds from all sides like we are completely unprepared. We are not just talking about a bit of inconvenience - we're talking about major systems not working.

Secondly, there's the longer term future that happens after this chaos has hit. I think there will be opportunities here as well as losses. What we make of it will depend on the kind of government and policy we choose.

The UK has adopted over 50,000 laws passed from the EU.

The UK has adopted over 50,000 laws passed from the EU.

The UK government agreeing with the vast majority of them.

A4710Rider

Quite, and it is unnerving to say the least for those of us that work in the judicial profession.

We will copy and paste for now, but many will be stripped out when we leave.

A4710Rider · 13/06/2018 12:49

Further on the aviation issue.

If Ryanair choose to leave the UK then another company will arise and take their place. It really is that simple.

watchingwithinterest · 13/06/2018 12:50

Op here we go again Russian diatribe.

So we are down to two settings.

Russian hysteria and airline hysteria.

Both are hysteria, haven't you a more informed view on anything else?

A Remainer told me just this week that we couldn't use Full Fact as a reputable source.

LifeBeginsAtGin · 13/06/2018 12:51

re grounding of planes. 13 million people holidayed in Spain in 2015 so is the EU really going to stop Uk tourists from going abroad? Thats a lot of money to lose.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 13/06/2018 12:51

If Ryanair choose to leave the UK then another company will arise and take their place. It really is that simple.

Why, because some internet random, with I assume no inside knowledge of the aviation industry said so?

user1486062886 · 13/06/2018 12:51

critiqueofeveryday So what major system are you expecting not to work the day after?

Lua · 13/06/2018 12:52

@watchingwithinterest - "You are getting desperate now, another shock and awe tactic coming. You are losing us now pal, bow out gracefully."

Here I was, thinking this was a debate about ideas. But we just scoring burns, are we? (If you count the number of poster supporting one argument or the other, there is quite a clear picture)

Not surprising, since this whole brexit is all about slogans. I still have not heard what are we looking to accomplish after brexit that cannot be accomplished now ? Nothing prevents the UK from raising wages today. Nothing prevents Uk to change the rules in immigration (other EU countries have different rules). Nothing prevent business from hiring british nationals (why would they prefer non-british anyway? Oh that is right, because british rather not work than work for less? makes no sense!). Nothing prevents us selling stuff to the US, Australia, etc. So what is it so great about brexit? that we can vote for our own toffs? that is great!
