To wonder how many of you are ready for hard Brexit, after today's Common's vote?

Because that's what's now happening, very soon.

PS According to the civil servants I know, it will be utter chaos - there has been literally basically no preparation for this at all. Because the bloody politicians can't make up their minds for what they want/expect to happen. So there are no contingency plans whatsoever.

Hope you're happy and looking forward to the chaos if you voted for Leave.

So, when it all goes so horribly wrong post-Brexit with the UK suddenly having nothing at all (no food, NHS, jobs, ad infinitum) except chaos and riots and everything that the Remainers and OP have predicted on this thread - what WILL people do?

Leavers, like myself, are obviously too stupid, uneducated, blah, blah to see this, so most won't be doing anything different but what are the posters that see this terrible Armageddon and destruction of society as we know it going to really do besides wringing their hands in despair wailing that they told us stupid, stupid people how right they were.

OP already envisages getting an EU passport and moving herself and her family to an EU country where she doesn't yet speak the language, expecting that she will be able to work and have free access to all that EU country offers its citizens, even though she will have contributed nothing to it. Hardly likely in reality

So, what are you that voted to Remain really doing to prepare for this impending Vision of Hell?

watchingwithinterest · 13/06/2018 12:24

Direct democracy it ain't!!!

Believeitornot · 13/06/2018 12:25

Parliament is the House of Commons and House of Lords. Both Houses approve a law together.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 13/06/2018 12:25

part of you want's to bring in "Russian bots" doesn't it, but the sensible side of you knows that to be bollocks.

MEPs have a vote in the European Parliament much like MPs do here.

The issue is the lack of engagement by voters and by politicians to engage their voters.

That, in my view, doesn’t mean we throw away EU membership based on misunderstandings and paranoid ravings about being controlled by Berlin Hmm

I’m well aware of the short comings of the EU, but I still voted remain because there was no coherent logical economic argument based on facts to say it would be a good thing.

I’m also aware that this is beyond party politics and having just one party deal with this is an absolute nonsense. We will get a Tory Brexit which is based on trying to keep the Tory Euro sceptics happy at the expense of the economic security of our country.

watchingwithinterest · 13/06/2018 12:28

Brussels is a farce. It is Fawlty Towers EU style.

I would rather have any vision of hell that a remoaner can come up with than stay shackled to the EU carcass. I would rather take my chances that we will find a way (and take the responsibility if we don't) than live under the autocratic EU led by Merkel and that other sinister little shit Schäuble.

cdtaylornats · 13/06/2018 12:28

I get the impression from some Remain voters that they will be sorely disappointed when a disaster doesn't happen.

Ghost

So you're blaming twitter for the reason the British working class chose to vote Brexit? That's fucking hilarious mate.

What has your second post got to do with Osbournes Remain Lie?

Well thank god for that. I didn't think there would ever be a reason to be happy with the conservative party, but this might be it.

GhostofFrankGrimes When the BOE realised that they acted to soon they put them back they were and that’s be honest what’s 0.25 % difference make to the average person

Just like a lot of American lefties are now sad that North Korea won't be able to Nuke the USA and prove what a meanie Trump is.

"I would rather have any vision of hell that a remoaner can come up with than stay shackled to the EU carcass."

Well, you'll get your wish except your vision of hell will be crafted by Brexiters like Jacob Rees-Mogg, who curiously - and of course entirely coincidentally - makes millions from Russia.

Who doesn't think that employment rights matter. Who doesn't think women's rights matter.

Glad you're looking forward to it.

"The issue is the lack of engagement by voters and by politicians to engage their voters"

And that very small detail (to your mind at least) is why we are here. The voters are not engaged at MEP level because they know very well their MEP is unable to do anything at all! Their MEP has zero influence.

So why on earth would they engage in a system that does not listen to them I ask you?

Buteo · 13/06/2018 12:34

Parliament don't make any laws or issue any legislations, do they?

FFS, that is exactly what Parliament does. And that includes both Houses.

Believeitornot · 13/06/2018 12:35

Well thank god for that. I didn't think there would ever be a reason to be happy with the conservative party, but this might be it

You’re happy to gamble away our economic security to keep Jacob Rees Mogg happy.

Riiight

Well on that note, I’m out. There’s no point trying to argue this one. We can agree to disagree.

I think Brexit is a distraction from the problems we have as a country and many rich people are rubbing their hands in glee. Nigel Farage isn’t bothered about increasing wages or better rights. Neither is Jacob Rees Mogg or the others of his ilk.

But I will carry on talking about this because I want the government to get the best deal for the country, not the best deal for their voters. This is not something which can be easily undone and nor is it a party political issue. We all know Jeremy Corbyn is a leaver as well!!!

GhostofFrankGrimes · 13/06/2018 12:35

So you're blaming twitter for the reason the British working class chose to vote Brexit? That's fucking hilarious mate.

Part of the problems were the falsehoods peddled. I'm sure you'd agree that in democracy people should be presented with facts not lies.

What has your second post got to do with Osbournes Remain Lie?

Its shows the actions the BoE took post referendum. I couldn't give a shit about Osborne - although his premise was that the economy will be worse off - pretty much what the current government admits to in its impact assessments!

Believeitornot · 13/06/2018 12:36

So why on earth would they engage in a system that does not listen to them I ask you?

It’s a two way street. People who don’t vote yet complain should have got off their arses and voted. Then and only then can they say they tried.

flibbertyfive · 13/06/2018 12:36

*part of you want's to bring in "Russian bots" doesn't it, but the sensible side of you knows that to be bollocks"

Ah, wondered when the Russian trolls would invade this thread.

It's far from bollocks, but congratulations on your mastery of UK slang.

At least I will be able to vote out any party that does not protect womens rights and working rights. I can vote for a party that reflects my values.

Shackled to the EU we are unable to change anything.

If the EU decides we must all wear green socks on a Friday, and passes the laws to do so, we will be wearing green socks on a Friday.

All looks innocent now, but that level of unaccountable power is dangerous as we have seen in the past.

LittleLionMansMummy · 13/06/2018 12:37

Hmm Yes... just like that [steps back slowly]

A4710Rider · 13/06/2018 12:39

No, it's bollocks. I understand that it gives you on the left something to hold onto but it's just plain bullshit. The working class weren't convinced to vote Brexit because of Russian "bots"
