To wonder how many of you are ready for hard Brexit, after today's Common's vote?

Because that's what's now happening, very soon.

PS According to the civil servants I know, it will be utter chaos - there has been literally basically no preparation for this at all. Because the bloody politicians can't make up their minds for what they want/expect to happen. So there are no contingency plans whatsoever.

Hope you're happy and looking forward to the chaos if you voted for Leave.

You wouldn't know a fact if it hit you on the head with your copy of the Guardian.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 13/06/2018 11:38

Given that we are leaving in March why can't they get their arses in gear, stop finger pointing and bickering and actually do the job in hand.

because they have no answers. Only slogans.

frumpety · 13/06/2018 11:38

Watching as is now apparent that we are not leaving the EU in its entirety , why are you not out on the streets campaigning against such blatant remaining ?

Believeitornot · 13/06/2018 11:38

@watchingwithinterest

Dishonest. That’s the best you’ve got. You sound paranoid with your claims about us being run by Germany. Listen to yourself.

The problems with this country - immediate problems - relate to housing, living costs, low wages and the NHS.

The EU and immigration cannot be blamed for the erosion of social housing, the crushing of unions, the ballooning ageing and ill population.

That’s a fundamental problem with our governments. Not the EU.

A4710Rider · 13/06/2018 11:40

Lifebegins

Democratic votes have already been reversed or ignored all over the EU so it wouldn't be a surprise if ours is.

It will just reiterate to many what the EU is. An undemocratic organisation that helps fund the elite whilst slowly eroding the cultures of Europe with non stop external immigration.

It's happening, right now.

British airlines will lose all flying rights the European Union has negotiated with third countries as well as those negotiated by individual EU states after Britain quits the bloc, the EU executive said in a note.

In a notice to all airlines, a stark reminder of the risks facing the sector if there is no Brexit deal, the European Commission said UK air carriers would no longer enjoy traffic rights under any air transport agreement to which the EU is a party, such as the U.S.-EU Open Skies agreement.

uk.reuters.com/article/us-britain-eu-aviation/eu-warns-british-airlines-on-post-brexit-flying-idUKKBN1E62CC

Better hope that the UK has done something to sort this out before March 2019.

Believeitornot · 13/06/2018 11:40

what does that say for British politics and democracy

Why don’t we have a vote on the proposed terms of the Brexit deal..... that would be democratic right?

Why don’t we give Parliament more time to look at the terms of Brexit in enough detail?

That would be democratic.

Instead things are being forced through exactly because Brexit is not being carried out in a sensible democratic way, with checks and balances!!!

Fenwickdream · 13/06/2018 11:41

Ref- Tory school cuts - Well that's my point exactly. The politics of our Country is wrong. We thought we were invincible. Our money gets spent on mini roundabouts instead of what really matters. It's very easy to get reckless and lose sight of what's important when you don't feel there is a need to. Plastering over cracks and essentially not keeping up with the World despite the fact we are not a self sufficient Country.

Sometimes you've got to get back to basics. I am not scared. I'm willing to take the hit for the benefit of our future society. I refuse to vote on my own personal circumstances (I'm alright Jack mentality). I've watched people on the news before saying they were going to vote one way or another because they worked out theyde be £(30?Can't remember ) odd pound a month worse off due to a proposed tax credit change.

Brexit voters were accused of being stupid but actually a lot of us were thinking if our children not worrying about the catastrophe inconvenience of having to fill out visa forms 🙄 , wait in longer que's or having to swop our 4x4's in and live a slightly simpler life.

Peaks and troughs. I'll take the trough in the hope my kids can get a peak.

GhostofFrankGrimes, the fruit farmers are going to have to embrace robotics if they so called cannot get the labour, A farmer near us was complaining about lack of staff, he put an advertisement around for people sat/ sun £5 hour apparently that’s all he pays, you can quest he did get much response, I used to go picking with my mum back in the 60’s, she said it was equivalent to her weekly wage as long as we pick the weight, how times have changed

A4710Rider · 13/06/2018 11:42

The problems with this country - immediate problems - relate to housing, living costs, low wages and the NHS

Our population has grown massively over the last 15 years. All of the problems above relate to having to many people in the country for the infrastructure to cope. People willing to work minimum wage because it's 3 x as much as the wage back home will KEEP WAGES DOWN.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 13/06/2018 11:42

The problem is alot of leavers are right wing and will never accept that the Tories in the 80's ("managed decline", council house sell off, privitisation, outsourcing) and the Tories now (austerity, foodbanks, NHS decline) are responsible for the UK's woes. They just shout Daily Express slogans about the nasty EU.

A4710Rider · 13/06/2018 11:43

user1486062886

Or they could pay £10 an hour and not make as much money. I too used to go blackberry picking back in the day. 48p a punnet I think we got!

Lua · 13/06/2018 11:44

If we are going to talk about migration can we at least get the facts straight?

official_data

GhostofFrankGrimes · 13/06/2018 11:44

People willing to work minimum wage because it's 3 x as much as the wage back home will KEEP WAGES DOWN.

Its almost has if low pay didn't exist prior to EU membership. The major problem is that house prices have outstripped wage growth - partly thanks to the council house sell off and commodification of property.

A4710Rider · 13/06/2018 11:45

and the Tories now (austerity, foodbanks, NHS decline) are responsible for the UK's woes

Fuck me sideways. It was the last Labour government who made the country bankrupt.

A4710Rider · 13/06/2018 11:46

Its almost has if low pay didn't exist prior to EU membership. The major problem is that house prices have outstripped wage growth - partly thanks to the council house sell off and commodification of property

Wages haven't risen because business have been given a never ending supply of cheap labour where they don't have to raise wages. The EU was created to make sure the rich stayed rich.

Believeitornot · 13/06/2018 11:47

@A4710Rider

The NHS is under pressure because of an ageing population. Right now that is our problem.

We do not have enough affordable housing. It isn’t housing, it’s affordable housing

Wages have been kept low by businesses. They’ve built their models on paying people too little. Unions have been destroyed so they cannot help workers to protect wages.

What has the EU got to do with that.....

Other non EU countries with different migration controls without freedom
of movement have similar problems....

Do you think immigrants only bring problems? They bring skills and income as well.

So again, the problems we have are because of the choices made by our own governments not because of the EU.

If we want to solve the problems, we need better politicians and parties to run the country.

Lua · 13/06/2018 11:47

@A4710Rider - It is more complicated than just workers availability. Minimum wage is set by the government. So tories can just increase it. Why don't they? Because their major donors make a lot of money by keeping wages down. Equally, they will also make a lot of money from not having to follow european rules of labour.

Cannot for the life of me understand why hard working people trust the toffs to make good decision for them?!
Just look at the list of people supporting Brexit. What do they have in common? They are rich!

A4710Rider · 13/06/2018 11:48

Thanks, Lua

That statistics say we need to build a small city every year just to keep up with migration to the UK.

It's unsustainable.

UpstartCrow · 13/06/2018 11:48

Fuck me sideways. It was the last Labour government who made the country bankrupt.

It was the Labour Party in as much as they didnt cause the banking crisis but they didn't actually throw themselves in front of it to stop it, and then had to bail out the banks

The next year the bankers awarded themselves more in bonuses than the 'crisis loan' which they refused to repay, or did you think we had all forgotten?

A4710Rider · 13/06/2018 11:48

So tories can just increase it. Why don't they

They just did, from £7.50 to £7.83 an hour.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 13/06/2018 11:48

flibbertyfive - you say that people and their kids will be 'stuck' in the UK with no escape (rather dramatic, but heyho!). Isn't that precisely what all these immigrants want? To be stuck in the UK, draining NHS and other resources which are the right of the indigineous population?

frumpety · 13/06/2018 11:49

Gin if the Government does not completely and utterly leave the European union in all its entirety then it has not followed the wishes of the people who voted to leave, because that was the question they voted on and for. So it will be a case of politicians not doing what they said they were going to do , which as we all know is almost unheard of in the UK democracy Wink

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 13/06/2018 11:49

The never ending supply of cheap workers isn’t just from the EU.

A4710Rider · 13/06/2018 11:51

When will you in the Left stop looking over your shoulder and looking to the past whilst at the same time blaming everyone else for the troubles in the UK apart from yourselves.

You've lost Scotland, you're losing Wales. Wake the fuckup, Left.
