To believe that kids sat inside supermarket trolleys is disgusting

Just that really.
Never allowed my DC to do it.

I think it is gross that some guardians allow children to sit amongst the groceries in the supermarket trolley.
Makes me shudder that they could have dog shit or other unmentionables on their outside footwear. This would contaminate their shopping and the next unsuspecting persons. I also think it's dangerous having a kid hanging off the edge of a trolley. Pisses me off to see this. Am I alone?

You're not alone I hate it.

bluetrampolines · 11/06/2018 18:56

Youd hate me too. But fellow shoppers always used to congratulate me even considering shopping with my newborn, 1 year old and 2 year old in the trolley.

carrotcake121 · 11/06/2018 19:05

If that's what you spend your life worrying about I would love to be you.

Eemamc · 11/06/2018 19:11

You’d wash any unwrapped food before eating though right? So what’s the problem?

corythatwas · 11/06/2018 19:18

The only food that is likely to be unwrapped in your trolley is fruit. And that's been shat on by birds, or worse, already.

carrotcake121 · 11/06/2018 19:19

You could always have a rule that children sitting in trolleys should be wrapped up in cling film so that they don't contaminate your trolley.
Even better buy yourself your own exclusive trolley so you don't get other peoples disgusting sprogs dirtying your trolley.

Whereisthecoffee · 11/06/2018 19:22

It’s not about not parenting properly. Some toddlers are hurricanes and all kids have moments of not listening. I’d rather have my child in a trolley than wondering towards one of those huge wine displays . The pyramids of wine in the middle of big aisles give me the fear.

Lou0390 · 11/06/2018 19:23

I put my toddler in as sometimes it's the only way to do the shopping with a newborn and keep my sanity.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 11/06/2018 19:24

I don't know why everyone is giving the OP such a hard time.
in fact it IS bogging, having a small child with their shitty shoes on, dumped inside a trolley.

And before anyone starts, I have a life, thanks , and do not waste any sleep over it.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 11/06/2018 19:26

if that is what you have to do, go ahead...

bluetrampolines · 11/06/2018 19:38

missyB1 · 11/06/2018 19:59

Its one of those situations where I think if other parents want to take the risk of their child falling out or tipping their trolley, then let them go for it. I presume they accept it would be entirely their own fault and not the supermarket's responsibility.
Although in our local Waitrose there is no chance of it anyway, as the staff actively tell parents to take the child out of the main compartment of the trolley.

SemperIdem · 11/06/2018 20:08

Ee

Cross contamination? Wrapped food touches filthy trolley then goes in your cupboards etc plus on your hands so it’s then on everything you touch in your home.

user8627481 · 11/06/2018 20:11

You r most definitely alone! And a bit bonkers!!!

Kid in trollies? What's the big deal!! HmmConfused

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 11/06/2018 20:17

user do you really find the need to be that unpleasant?

No she is not alone, nor is she 'bonkers'.

Outdoor shoes often have traces of eg dog poo on. think about it.

Hotdogjumpingfrogs · 11/06/2018 20:20

Nrtf but, once when I was in asda I saw a family walking round. The (assumed) father, vest beer belly, was pushing a small trolly. Sat in the trolly was a toddler in nothing but a nappy chewing on a packet of raw mince. No fucking joke, weirdest thing I ever saw in a supermarket.

Petalflowers · 11/06/2018 20:20

User, do,you mean to be so rude?

No, she is not alone, as many people agree with her, and she is definantly not bonkers.

SemperIdem · 11/06/2018 20:21

Hotdog
Shock

I find Asda to be an eye opening experience as to how other people live and what they think is acceptable public behaviour every single time I go there.

Whereisthecoffee · 11/06/2018 20:28

Grin At the Asda shock. Do some people just go to Asda for a break from Waitrose’s and to show their dc the less fortunate in society ?Grin I love Asda.

DottyBlue2 · 11/06/2018 20:31

I put my dog in the supermarket trolley today and wheeled it round while I did the shopping. But then I got told to leave the premises. It wasn't even Waitrose Angry

CloudCaptain · 11/06/2018 20:33

Perhaps we should complain about dogs shitting all over the pavement rather than traces of dog shit on shoes?
Food for thought, me and 5 other packers once let a dead seagull travel up the belt from the field to the farm truck along with the potatoes, to go into the food store shed. Also, when packing said potatoes and onions for various supermarkets, the teens would sometimes get carried away and climb into the massive pallets of veg for a lark. With shoes on.
If you saw what went on in food packing factories when the supervisor wasn't looking you would never eat again. Wink

NotMyFinestMoment · 11/06/2018 20:39

I've done it on occasion. Every now and again all the trolleys with seats are taken in the supermarket. Then I have to make an informed decision (1) should I cancel my shopping trip because I have a tired toddler and there's no shopping trolley with a seat (2) should I struggle around the shop with heavy shopping, an overflowing basket and not enough hands and a fed up, tired and becoming grumpier by the minute due to having to walk toddler (3) should I grab any available trolley (even one without a seat) put my toddler in there and quickly grab a few bits and leave (all the while he's relatively calm and well behaved due to not being forced to walk on his tiny legs through a huge shop) even though it might offend someone like yourself?

I know which choice above is the intelligent one.

The shopping trolley is more likely to be riddled with bacteria from the several thousand shoppers who used the trolley before you and had not washed their hands after using the toilet, or blowing their nose, or who had untreated bacterial and viral infections, etc. etc. The handles of trolleys are never cleaned (a public toilet is likely to be cleaner then the handle of a shopping trolley). So you do have a point, but not much of one.

Hotdogjumpingfrogs · 11/06/2018 20:40

No asdas my favourite shop best prices and great kids clothes. The mince eating child just happened to be in an asda.

They wouldn't let those types in waitross surely! Grin

catintheworld · 11/06/2018 20:43

once I saw a mouse running over the loose tomatoes in Tesco. When I reported it to the teenager store manager, his response was 'yeah, we know. We get them all the time' !!!!!

How about if someone has been vomiting all night and dragged themselves to the supermarket to get some basics in for their kids dinner. Pushed the trolley round with their hands covered in norovirus germs from touching their mouth.

You could start yourself down a very slippery slope if you overthink anything too much.

Montsti · 11/06/2018 20:49

YANBU...I agree 100% - and I dislike it more when the child is clearly ill....

I have 4 young kids and I do get the issues with small kids in supermarkets but this is a big no no for me...
