Reposted from Feminism Chat as more people need to see this.

Neither Miller nor Yearwood have got times that would be remotely remarkable for boys (200th and 443rd respectively) but they are smashing the girls' records out of the park as now they identify as girls, they're allowed to race them instead.

Watch the face of the girl who comes third. That's pretty much her best ever 100m race. But she didn't win.

Self identification means this kind of thing will keep on happening. If you value women's sport and think that women and girls deserve to compete on a level playing field, please sign the petition: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/214118

Boneyback I don’t really understand what you are asking. I’ve never heard the chant women are women, I don’t know what it means.

Thank you for your response longlost, where I disagree with you is that I don't think it's problematic that biological gender can be a physical advantage in competitive sports - that is why the sexes are separated in most competitive sports. Not all though and some have Mixed Sex events.

If physiology is the inherent problem - and not the "broken system" - then you will have a long way to go before you will convince me that Males in Female sports competitions is anything but unfair.

ALittleAubergine · 07/06/2018 18:37

I don't mind how people identify or how they present themselves but things like sport etc will take time to catch up. Instead of separating competition between girls and boys, should it be done another way? Hormone levels? from what I've understood the Olympic committee is changing its hormone levels to lower in an effort to ensure trans women don't have an unfair advantage. I don't know if it will work but if people can self-id however they want then obviously we need to class competitors in a different way for sports etc.

longlostpal · 07/06/2018 18:37

I’m not trans btw, and not an expert on trans stuff. I have a couple of trans acquaintances, but they are both f to m (which seems more common than m to f anyway?)

ToffeeUp · 07/06/2018 18:37

Yes the system is awful but that doesn't mean that women should be disadvantaged even further by allowing men to infringe on their already limited opportunities.

RoseWhiteTips · 07/06/2018 18:38

I reject that stupid cis label too. In fact, it’s beyond stupid.
I. Am. A. Woman.

Got it?

BoneyBackJefferson · 07/06/2018 18:39

longlostpal

It means that transwomen are women whilst natal women are CIS.

Or trans women that are born men are women and that a woman that was born a woman is only a form of woman.

Or if you will that there is no difference between a woman and a transwoman.

RoseWhiteTips · 07/06/2018 18:40

Babynut

It’s just totally getting out of hand. If you’re a man you’re a man. If you’re a woman you’re a woman. There’s no getting away from biology.
If you want to identify as the opposite sex then fine but you’re still the bloody sex you were born with.

Bloody pathetic

Exactly.

longlostpal · 07/06/2018 18:41

Well, personally I don’t have a problem with saying that both trans women and cis women are women.

TransplantsArePlants · 07/06/2018 18:41

I reject cis too. And if transwomen are women, then transplants are plants, and sea horses are horses

PleaseDontGoadTheToad · 07/06/2018 18:42

In what way are transwomen women long?

JacquesHammer · 07/06/2018 18:42

@longlostpal

Do you understand now why women don’t want to compete in sport against men due to the advantages sex confers?

RoseWhiteTips · 07/06/2018 18:42

Corrected:

This “cis” woman thing is utter garbage. How dare any group refer to WOMEN in this way. It is totally UNacceptable

lizzie1970a · 07/06/2018 18:42

But they're not women so they can't get to call themselves women.

LunaTrap · 07/06/2018 18:43

Why do you need to use 'cis'? What is wrong with just using the word 'women'?

longlostpal · 07/06/2018 18:44

In what way are transwomen women long?

Again I’m not an expert but I believe that the argument is that gender is distinct from sex and the former is performative and socially constructed rather than natural or innate. The trans people I know are super into Judith Butler’s Gender Trouble and that book also speaks to me as a cis woman.

lizzie1970a · 07/06/2018 18:44

I think it's just typical male behaviour Lunatrap - they turn up and think they can just change things to how they want them and think they can take over and dictate how they want things with no regard for women.

MadisonAvenue · 07/06/2018 18:46

YANBU

It's wrong, it's unfair and it's so bloody worrying.

Aeroflotgirl · 07/06/2018 18:46

That is shitty, really shitty. Good thing it did not happen when I was younger and into cross country running.

longlostpal · 07/06/2018 18:46

Jacques
Do you understand now why women don’t want to compete in sport against men due to the advantages sex confers?

I believe I’ve made my views on this question clear in my previous posts. No i don’t find it any more unfair that a trans man beats a trans woman than that the top paid male athlete earns 100x more than the top paid female athlete. Sports is not a good place to look for or model equality.

TransplantsArePlants · 07/06/2018 18:48

Ok, so transwomen are performing their womanhood, by your definition.

How do they do that?

And in so doing, does that render their physiological advantages over women irrelevant, when competing in sports such as running, rugby, and combat sports?

LunaTrap · 07/06/2018 18:48

But you are making assumptions about women when you call them 'cis'. You are giving them a gender that they may not themselves identify with. In fact many women strongly reject the term and its implications. Very strange of someone who appears to be at pains to be sensitive to how trans people identify.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 07/06/2018 18:50

So Long they are women because they tend towards the behaviour that has generally been gendered as female? And enacting the stereotypes and clichés of gender (an invented construct) means they are women?

BoneyBackJefferson · 07/06/2018 18:50

longlostpal

I am starting to believe that you are just goady.

There is no CIS woman there is just woman

Transwomen are in fact transwomen.
