Reposted from Feminism Chat as more people need to see this.

Neither Miller nor Yearwood have got times that would be remotely remarkable for boys (200th and 443rd respectively) but they are smashing the girls' records out of the park as now they identify as girls, they're allowed to race them instead.

Watch the face of the girl who comes third. That's pretty much her best ever 100m race. But she didn't win.

Self identification means this kind of thing will keep on happening. If you value women's sport and think that women and girls deserve to compete on a level playing field, please sign the petition: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/214118

Longlostpal fuck off with your cis woman shite. It's insulting. I'm a woman, not a cis woman. That's male bollocks talking.

Your ideas about sport are laughable.

PleaseDontGoadTheToad · 07/06/2018 18:00

Whenever someone starts referring to women as cis women I just stop taking them seriously. They are clearly on a wind up.

lizzie1970a · 07/06/2018 18:00

Ridiculous that two boys were allowed to enter because that's what they still are. We're going backwards in terms of women's rights.

AngelsSins · 07/06/2018 18:02

It’s disgustingly unfair and you just know that if men were disadvantaged in this way, it would never be allowed to happen.

TransplantsArePlants · 07/06/2018 18:04

Please

Yes. It's not worth bothering with them.

longlostpal · 07/06/2018 18:07

Well, it’s your choice whether to listen to others’ opinions. Though I’m not sure what you get out of discussions like this if you won’t engage with anyone with a different view to yourself!

MonkeysMum75 · 07/06/2018 18:07

Just attempted to sign the petition - got this message:

You're receiving this email because your email has been used to sign the petition “Consult with women on proposals to enshrine 'gender identity' in law”, but you have already signed this petition

and I think I would have remembered already signing it Confused - anyone any ideas?

RoseWhiteTips · 07/06/2018 18:07

This “cis” woman thing is utter garbage. How dare any group refer to WOMEN in this way. It is totally acceptable.

TransplantsArePlants · 07/06/2018 18:09

Really worth re-posting this link, posted on Feminism Chat

The assault on Women's sport

Great article. Also mentions other cases where TIMs have gained unfair advantage over women in sport

I really think sport is the area that may wake the general public up

LunaTrap · 07/06/2018 18:12

I agree that sport will be the issue that wakes people up. It was interesting to see the responses online to Laurel Hubbard competing in the Commonwealth Games. Lots of people (particularly men) who didn't have a clue about any of this and were overwhelmingly outraged at what is blatant cheating.

Wearelocal · 07/06/2018 18:14

Wow I've been living under a rock, sorry. I had to look up 'cis' woman. Just f*ck off. I am a woman. If people want to call themselves trans women that's fine by me. But I am not a 'cis' woman. And I reject that term. It offends me.

Metoodear · 07/06/2018 18:14

Can I ask if people end up in the prison of the gender and not sex
What will happen to trans men

NotAgainYoda · 07/06/2018 18:15

longlost

really interested in your answer to BoneybackJefferson's question - BBJ chose to 'engage' with you

Here it is again:

How do you feel about non-disabled athletes identifying as disabled?

I also have one:

How do you feel about a white woman identifying as black 9and gaining advantage in so doing)- Rachel Dolezal

PleaseDontGoadTheToad · 07/06/2018 18:15

Transactivists don't give a shit about transmen so I doubt they care about what happens to them.

Babynut1 · 07/06/2018 18:20

It’s just totally getting out of hand. If you’re a man you’re a man. If you’re a woman you’re a woman. There’s no getting away from biology.
If you want to identify as the opposite sex then fine but you’re still the bloody sex you were born with.

Bloody pathetic

blueluce85 · 07/06/2018 18:20

Wrong wrong wrong wrong. Not fair at all

EdWinchester · 07/06/2018 18:20

Disgraceful that this was allowed to happen.

HateIsNotGood · 07/06/2018 18:21

longlost - if the system that allowed these two males to run in a female race is "broken" then that must mean that you don't agree with the males running in the race.

sonlypuppyfat · 07/06/2018 18:24

longlostpal you are making yourself look a fool

longlostpal · 07/06/2018 18:25

I responded to the point about nondisabled athletes above. As I said, I think that the controversies that happen every Paralympics about ‘how disabled’ an athlete is highlight the fact that sports and body equality just don’t go together. As such I have a hard time getting worried about gender equality in sport. There is no gender (or abled/disabled, or racial, or class) equality in sport (look at male and female athletes’ salaries) and that’s not a coincidence. It’s inherent to the nature of sport.

I’m not an expert on trans stuff but it strikes me that there is a difference between identifying as a different gender than identifying as a different race, because gender is something to do with a sense of self, whereas race is identification with a group. Also there do seem to be significant numbers of people who genuinely consider themselves trans, so I’m inclined to believe them.

Ultimately, if we achieve gender equality there shouldn’t be a problem with switching genders. If switching genders raises inequality issues (eg in sport) my sense is that it is highlighting a gender inequality issue that was already there (again IMO as in sport) rather than creating a new problem.

We wouldn’t say that trans people sitting a maths or English exam was unfair for eg, bc there is no gender advantage in those exams. The fact that gender does give you an advantage in sport is a clue that it is inherently problematic imo.

PleaseDontGoadTheToad · 07/06/2018 18:28

I wish people would stop using the word gender when they mean sex.

longlostpal · 07/06/2018 18:29

No the system that is broken is US college admissions. I did my PhD in a US college and have seen this first hand. Legacy admissions and sports scholarships both favour the rich (bc sports like fencing, lacrosse etc are mostly played by richer people) who are already favoured by the extortionate prices. The most lucrative sports scholarships go to men. Kids on sports scholarships are required to keep to unreasonable training schedules that mean they are at a real disadvantage in their studies. The system is so, so awful.

LunaTrap · 07/06/2018 18:29

I don't care what gender somebody identifies as. Sport should be SEX segregated. And you can't change sex anymore than you can change race.

BoneyBackJefferson · 07/06/2018 18:30

longlostpal

I will ask again

do you not find it ironic that the chant is
"transwomen are women" yet Women are cis women?

lizzie1970a · 07/06/2018 18:30

To be honest I'm not happy about the term transwomen either. I'd rather male to female were known as transmen as they're biologically still men. I don't particularly like them claiming the word 'women' at all. I don't care if that's controversial. It's only because the known term is transwomen that they want to claim 'woman' completely, elbowing out women to the 'cis woman' box. I think 'trans' on its own would work for both - the sex they'd like to be or the gender characteristics they've taken on (albeit usually exaggerated to the nth stereotypical degree in the case of mtf) would be indicated by their clothes/hair and/or name.

Any trans calling women 'cis' have brought this view of mine on themselves - you're pissing us off. If you want sympathy or empathy don't piss us off.
