Then why will trans people being acknowledged as such make a difference?
Sigh. Because:
At the moment, there’s a social convention that men don’t go in the ladies. That means, if you’re a woman and you see a man in the ladies a few things happen. You’re on high alert, because wtf is a bloke doing in here? Other women in there are in high alert, because again, bloke in ladies is a red flag. No decent bloke wants to go in the ladies, what’s this guy doing here? I’m going to leave and pee elsewhere, or maybe ask this other woman if she will come in with me...
But now it’s a free for all and any man can come in, so that layer of protection is gone. That reduces safety.
Second: if I go into the ladies in John Lewis and there’s a bloke there I can go outside to one of the staff and say ‘hi, there’s a bloke in the ladies, not comfy with that,’ and the staff can ask him to leave.
But now that can’t happen. So what do I do when I need to pee and there’s a bloke in there? Is he legit? Is he going to harm me? I dont know and no one will remove him. So I have to pee with him there.
Now the onus for safety is on me alone. Before, the structural exclusion of men kept me safe. Now that’s gone.
So that’s just your ‘general male’ Population.
A man, who wants to kick the shit out of a transwomen, can also follow that transwoman into the ladies loo. And assault them.
Can you honestly see no issues with unisex bogs? Why do you think toilets have been single sex in the first place? It’s for safety
