Reposted from Feminism Chat as more people need to see this.

Neither Miller nor Yearwood have got times that would be remotely remarkable for boys (200th and 443rd respectively) but they are smashing the girls' records out of the park as now they identify as girls, they're allowed to race them instead.

Watch the face of the girl who comes third. That's pretty much her best ever 100m race. But she didn't win.

Self identification means this kind of thing will keep on happening. If you value women's sport and think that women and girls deserve to compete on a level playing field, please sign the petition: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/214118

I totally agree it's unfair - on a sports level playing field.

I think there does need to be availability for those who identify with a different gender to their sex to compete. But the sports classes should be set like the para sports classes - for example.

My son competes with boys his age but isn't equal due to him having a physical disability. He is awaiting classification where he will be assigned a class to compete on an even playing field.

As a mainstream swimmer he is pretty ok - but probably 1000th in his age group nationally.
As a para swimmer in the class we think he'll be assigned he's about 10th!

They also provide sports classes for those with intellectual disability and sight/hearing impaired.

It's about time they provided classes for transgender athletes to compete inclusively and also fairly.

There are already a number of organisations who are currently pushing through Self-ID, AHEAD of any Law changes. That's not legal, or appropriate - but they are doing it anyway...…

Notably in the Guides:

If an adult self-identifies as a woman then they are able to undertake all adult roles in guiding and may, if they wish, make their Promise.

Yep what bowl says. Also men can train differently to women as they dont have menstrual cycles to contend with.

If we split a sport by sex then it should be split by sex - humans cant change sex.

People that think a man wearing ruffles & tights & growing long hair is a woman should go look at some historical portraits....

SuitedandBooted

Thanks for linking to that Sages Factsheet again. It's a really accessible explanation of what many women are concerned about.

TransplantsArePlants · 09/06/2018 18:02

Cough

Most transpeople undergo no surgery at all. Those athletes were too young to have 'had their penis chopped off'

TransplantsArePlants · 09/06/2018 18:04

... Oh sorry, you said 'cock'

CoughLaughFart · 09/06/2018 18:04

How is that relevant?

TransplantsArePlants · 09/06/2018 18:06

Eh?

You've lost me. Read the Sages Factsheet then come back to me. (I really thought my last post covered it)

"Cue: influx of radical feminists telling AIBU women how terrible trans people are and how they are going to destroy the world."

How is saying that men are not women:

a. Radical?
b. Claiming that trans people are terrible?
c. Stating that trans people are destroying the world?

TransplantsArePlants · 09/06/2018 18:10

Sorry you feel that way cough

SardineReturns · 09/06/2018 18:14

TBH I'm a bit Hmm at a transman joining an all male choir.

There is loads of mixed stuff, why go for single sex things?

A male voice choir is a male voice choir, not a choir for men and women who feel they are men inside / and may have had testosterone.

Men are entitled to their spaces as well (with things like this - not the old style locking us out of politics business etc obv!).

Opheliah · 09/06/2018 18:14

In the real world, no one has ever chopped their cock off in the hope they could enter a women’s toilet
Quite.
In the real world men proudly keep their cocks and say "I identify as a woman" then go into women's spaces and compete in their sports.

Hardly any transpeople have any surgery or hormones.

JacquesHammer · 09/06/2018 18:15

In the real world, no one has ever chopped their cock off in the hope they could enter a women’s toilet

And yet men with cocks are playing full Contact sport against women. You don’t even need to bother lopping it off.

FermatsTheorem · 09/06/2018 18:15

So, Cough what would you say to the girls who were bumped down the finishing order by two biologically male athlete, no hormones, no blockers, no nothing. (Miller was competing against boys a few months ago - nothing like the two year gap plus blood tests the IOC suggests and Yearwood' father has said Yearwood hopes to start taking hormones soon, which rather implies none have been taken as yet).

TransplantsArePlants · 09/06/2018 18:16

Opheliah Jacques Fermats

Thank you. I though that's what I was saying but I don't think I was as clear as you

CoughLaughFart · 09/06/2018 18:17

Show me one proven incidence of this happening.

ChickenMe · 09/06/2018 18:17

If the Guides are pursuing Self-ID that has safeguarding implications for young girls surely? Given that they go camping etc. Would parents be told if a boy (who self IDs as a girl) was coming along?

SuitedandBooted · 09/06/2018 18:18

Quite right, they won't need too - Self-ID is a whole new world.

The sport thing? Fallon Fox. Hannah Mouncey.

ChickenMe · 09/06/2018 18:23

Why does something have to "happen" to women or girls-why isn't us saying "no" enough?? We know what some penis owners are capable of. Don't pretend you don't know this.

It all seems so depressingly familiar..women saying no..some people with penises formerly known as men ignoring the NO..aka rape

SuitedandBooted · 09/06/2018 18:25

NO, ChickenMe they would not be told.

BiologyIsReal · 09/06/2018 18:25

It's astonishing how there are posters who think that transgender means chopping your cock off. The vast majority of so-called trans women have had surgery at all. I don't mind how posters debate but at least debate from a position of knowledge rather than ignorance.
