I was a normal sized child and then gained weight around nine/ten

been fat ever since!

sometimes I lose a bit of weight but I've been morbidly obese for three years now and I just can't seem to lose it (tried loads of different things - they all work for a bit then I gain weight again.)

I just can't seem to stop eating.

I’m empathising. I’m a size 18-20 at the moment and feel disgusting.

Amatullah · 07/06/2018 16:11

Cbt?? Perhaps you have an unhealthy association or trigger with food.
Have you ruled medical reasons.

Freaklikemeee · 07/06/2018 16:11

Of course you can stop eating, or rather, control your eating. It depends on how much you value being lean and healthy. Just do it.

DeepFatFriar · 07/06/2018 16:12

Pretty much the only way you will lose weight is to stop eating

bluebird14 · 07/06/2018 16:14

For a while, I do and lose a bit of weight. Then I just find I can't continue with it.

OP posts:
sweettutu · 07/06/2018 16:15

You can do it! Sorry, it’s a crap answer, but stopping eating it is. Cbt might be the way to do it?

Frosty66612 · 07/06/2018 16:16

Don’t buy the things for the house that you know you’ll overeat on. I used to binge eat on things like packs of biscuits or tubes of Pringles. I don’t buy anything like that at all anymore, and if I want a snack i’ll have something like Greek yogurt and berries.
It was depressing to begin with as I used to look so forward to eating loads of junk food after a stressful day. After 4-5 weeks of eating better I started to get used to it and no longer craved all the extra calories.

MrsHappyAndMrCool · 07/06/2018 16:16

You will lose weight if you stop eating the things you shouldn’t be eating.

DeepFatFriar · 07/06/2018 16:16

But you can continue with it.

If you just eat meat, veg, fruit and nuts and massively restrict carbs and dairy, and ban sugar, you can eat as much as you like basically.

Frosty66612 · 07/06/2018 16:18

Do you overeat when bored? The busier I am the less I binge

sweettutu · 07/06/2018 16:18

True deepfat. When I did ivf I had to stick to protein/fat low carb diet. Ate loads, lost weight. Try the Michael Moseley blood sugar diet. Same principle. Works a charm.

What have you tried in the past? Could it be too restrictive? I'm a couple of weeks into team rh fitness (it's a facebook thing) and so far this is the easiest and least restrictive diet I've ever done. The calorie allowance is very generous. The weight loss is therefore slow but it is happening. I have never got two weeks into a diet without fighting serious temptation and hunger pains before but this really hasn't been an issue for me on this one. It's cheap too.

SpiritInTheNight · 07/06/2018 16:22

Take it one step at a time. If you need to make lots of changes to diet/ exercise and do it all at once, it will only take one bad day to throw it off course.

I stopped eating chocolate/ biscuits at night, then started drinking more water and I’m now gradually reducing portion sizes. I’ve lost 9lbs in 9 weeks, but I feel much more in control than when I’ve ever tried to lose weight before.

DeepFatFriar · 07/06/2018 16:23

@notanurse2017
It actually is that simple.

Its about willpower and self control.

No idea why british society is so lenient with overeaters but so aggressive with smokers, but im assuming its to do with most of the uk having a bit of a weight problem (and being in denial about it).

Sofabitch · 07/06/2018 16:23

Statistically you have a 1 in 124 chance if obese or 1 in 677 if severely obese, (www.sciencealert.com/odds-of-an-obese-person-attaining-a-healthy-weight-are-incredibly-slim-study-finds)

I wish people would stop declaring it simple. it obviously isn't.

have yo been to your gp to ask for help OP?

WalkingOnAFlashlightBeam · 07/06/2018 16:23

Until you value being slimmer and healthy over overeating, you’ll never be slim. Sorry, that’s just the truth.

19lottie82 · 07/06/2018 16:24

I’m a couple of stone overweight and so know I eat too much, but I don’t agree with your statement “I can’t stop eating”. Of course you can, you just choose not to. I’m not saying it’s easy but if you don’t make an active choice to change your diet then yes, you will always be fat.

I prob will always be a bit fat, as I love to eat and don’t particularly want to give us chocolate and take always! Although I try and counter act it a bit with exercise.

BogstandardBelle · 07/06/2018 16:25

Maybe you haven’t had a trigger / lightbulb moment yet. Mine came when I went to the Dr for some th8ng else, and she weighed me and told me I was obese. Not just overweight but obese. It really shocked me out of my complacency / it’s too difficult excuses etc etc. I did a lot of reading and thinking about how / what / why I eat, tried to understand why i was doing this to myself and what I had to change both mentally and in my food environment to deal with it.

Taking th issue seriously enough to address it is also a big step, as Is finding the courage to open up about how difficult you find it.

rachelgrassby · 07/06/2018 16:26

Have you tried Slimming World? I personally hated it but it does work. Good luck :)

ragingmentalist · 07/06/2018 16:29

Freak, if it were really that simple do you think we would as a nation be in the middle of an obesity crisis?

Yes, it really is that simple. Eat less, move more.

The key is wanting to do it. Yeah it's going to hurt, and be tough.

But so is waddling up stairs, getting out of breath and being soaked in sweat walking round the supermarket.

It's easier to sit on your arse and feel sorry for yourself though, rather than get up and do some exercise and take some pride in your health rather than killing yourself though.

HyacinthsBucket70 · 07/06/2018 16:29

I've lost 3 stone due to being diagnosed diabetic... I'm on medication but it doesn't seem to matter what I do, I can't get my weight down anymore. I'm so pissed off with it, I eat really healthily, get lots of exercise but am stuck in this awful rut. I wish it was as easy as just eating less Sad

Frosty66612 · 07/06/2018 16:32

There’s no easy or quick fix to lose weight. If you really want to do it then you make it happen though

Mookatron · 07/06/2018 16:34

Honestly it is more difficult for some people than others. Everyone knows this fact but we all pretend it's just that the fatter you are the more terrible a person you are.

The truth is, it is harder, but you CAN do it. You need to eat less than other people do and move more than other people do. Whether it's behavioural or biological or emotional or whatever you've got into a pattern of eating too much FOR YOU AT THIS STAGE OF YOUR LIFE.

That doesn't say anything moral about you it's just, unfortunately, the way it is. Me too. I've cut right back on food and right up on exercise and it is working but I've had to realise that I will have to do this rigorously for the rest of my life, whereas others won't.

However I'm quite clever and find thinking very easy, which some don't. And I find empathising quite easy too, which others don't.
