To ask if your house smells like smoke

teaandsmokes · 06/06/2018 19:53

If you smoke outside and you get inside once finished? Can people who come inside your house smell it? Just curious

OP posts:
Pigeonpresent · 06/06/2018 19:58

Yes we can smell it on your clothes all day

PippilottaLongstocking · 06/06/2018 20:00

Yes! If you’re smoking close to the house the smell gets in, even with doors and windows closed (said from experience of MIL smoking in our small garden, I was all set to be furious at her for smoking in the house and she wasn’t!)

clearview · 06/06/2018 20:02

If my DP smokes outside I can smell it, even when the door's shut. I'm an ex-smoker though and really hate the smell

HildaZelda · 06/06/2018 20:02

Yes, absolutely. We can smell it everywhere. You smoke, it gets on to your clothes, you sit on your couch in said clothes, lie in your bed with smoky hair, touch everything with smoky hands.
Trust me, a non smoker can detect it no matter how much you believe otherwise.

LemonysSnicket · 06/06/2018 20:04

As an ex smoker... yes. I stopped and when I did started to notice the utter stink of it on colleagues.

It's super strong compared to what smoking me thought.

iklboo · 06/06/2018 20:04

Yes definitely. It's still on your breath, hair, hands & clothes.

Acopyofacopy · 06/06/2018 20:09

Yes we can. And air fresheners make it worse, not better!

Don’t kid yourself: No matter how much you try, non-smokers can smell it on you. Even through chewing gum.

Mari50 · 06/06/2018 20:09

Yes, as a smoker you have no idea but the stink of it surrounds you like an enormous cloud of boak inducing stench of fags.
It’s rank

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 06/06/2018 20:10

I can smell it on the hair and clothes of parents as their drop their DC into my classroom each morning. I can smell it on school clothes, school bags and even lunch boxes.

Spraying over the top with deodorant or brushing teeth/chewing gum doesn't mask it anywhere near as well as smokers might think.

QforCucumber · 06/06/2018 20:10

My neighbours smoke outside their back door, we are in a detatched house. Our upstairs stinks of smoke whenever they go out. I hate it.

Gillian1980 · 06/06/2018 20:11

Yep.

SoyDora · 06/06/2018 20:11

My dad only smokes outside his house and yes, it smells of smoke inside. It’s on his clothes/hair etc when he goes in.

Tartsamazeballs · 06/06/2018 20:11

I can smell my neighbours smoke- it comes through the wall when she smokes in her kitchen and makes my stairs stink.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 06/06/2018 20:14

I used to look after a little girl whose parents smoked and my god her stuff stank. When she left I chucked out everything she’d ever slept on, bibs she’d worn, her favourite dressing up outfit and the box I used to keep her things in. Was awful.

MrsJayy · 06/06/2018 20:15

You take the smell in with you when we both smoked the smell would linger I used to smoke bottom of the garden thinking it would help but it doesn't really

WrongOnTheInternet · 06/06/2018 20:19

We bought a house recently, and took down some wood panelling off the walls (will leave grumbling about wood panelling for another thread Smile). The house stank of smoking for a few days. We think there must have been a smoker in the house in the 70s. It's awful insidious stuff.

Helloisitteaurlookingfor · 06/06/2018 20:20

Yes, it'll come in with you.

Boffin90 · 06/06/2018 20:22

Smokers always get a hard time, I appreciate some may smell of smoke and it’s not nice. I’m an ex smoker myself but I do think people are extremely judgmental of smokers in general.
I appreciate the comments above are valid answers to the question, but just waiting for the vicious crew to arrive and take it a step further.
I find that when people drink alcohol, I can smell it on them and I find that unpleasant too.
Many habits cause bad smells, smoking, drinking, farting.
As long as people don’t encroach on each other, live and let live. 😊

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 06/06/2018 20:24

We rented a house a few years ago where the previous tenants were smokers. They clearly smoked outside as the only part of the house that stank of smoke was the built in wardrobes where they stored their stinky clothes.

LiteraryDevil1 · 06/06/2018 20:26

Farting isn't a habit! It's a natural bodily function! Some people smell worse than others but that's down to lots of factors such as diet, genetics, medication and illnesses.

happypoobum · 06/06/2018 20:28

Yep - this is about it.

JaceLancs · 06/06/2018 20:31

Yes and I’m an ex smoker
Even in winter I have my bedroom windows open and can smell when NDN goes outside for her last ciggy - there’s at least 15 metres between her back door and my bedroom window
Previous family who lived opposite me liked to smoke weed every now and again I could smell that when I got out of my car after work if they had any windows open
I don’t even think I’ve got a particularly good sense of smell - but tobacco or weed is very pungent

Boffin90 · 06/06/2018 20:32

LiteraryDevil1
Farting is a habit and a sport in a house with teenage boys. 😂😂😂

TheBogWitchIsBack · 06/06/2018 20:32

I'm an ex smoker and yes you can smell it. I was really not aware but I'm so embarrassed at how I used to go around and be near people and not realising how bad I smelled.

Grasslands · 06/06/2018 20:35

OP how old are you and why do you not know this? I’m sure a 5 year old child can tell you the answer.
