If you smoke outside and you get inside once finished? Can people who come inside your house smell it? Just curious

My mum is close to a chainsmoker, always has been. I was that child who reeked of smoke, I rarely visit my parents as entering their house you can feel the air get thicker and pungent.

Mum can't smell it at all though, yet as soon as I get home everything goes into the wash as it seems to be the most acrid aroma that sticks 🤮

Time to start vaping

I hate the demonisation of smokers. It's really only happened since smoking has largely become confined to the poorer people in our society. Those of you who drive cars make a smell in the streets. Fast food shops make a smell. All sorts of things are smelly, but now that most smokers are less well off, it's apparently fine for everyone to pile in and tell them they stink so badly they make you want to vomit. What's so funny about peace, love and understanding, huh?

specialsubject · 08/06/2018 14:17

ah, the usual nicotine addled argument. i dont take my car into the super market and rev the engine in the queue. nor do i bring it into an office like the stink of a turd smoker after a drug break.

sorry, but smokers smell horribble. as bad as perfume and BO

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 08/06/2018 14:31

Nicotine-addled? I don't smoke. At all. I have to walk down the street that stinks of kebabs and petrol fumes though! But yeah, thanks for not driving your car into my office Hmm

Ski4130 · 08/06/2018 14:34

When I smoked I didn't think I smelled of smoke, since I gave up (14 years ago) I'm like a bloodhound with the smell of it, I can pick it up on my brother in law hours after he's last had a cigarette. I think my flat and clothes probably stank of smoke when I smoked, and I was just kidding myself that you couldn't smell it.

Don't know what you're on about. People on this thread are talking about how much their own parents and partners stink.

There's no class aspect to it.

londonrach · 08/06/2018 14:37

Never smelt but i can enter a house a smell a smoker even if they not smoked in the house, for a few hours. Its on the clothes, in the skin, hair.... theres one charity shop i cant enter as it stinks re smoke as the volunteer smokes in his breaks. The whole place reaks of it.

gillybeanz · 08/06/2018 14:45

You can smell it on your clothes and body, you always know the home of a smoker. I smoke and can still smell it in my house even though we smoke outside.
It can't get through well fitting windows, bricks and mortar though.
It's more of a musty smell though than the one where you've been smoking inside.
I find those nutradol whatever they're called things work, and spraying before visitors.
We usually have windows open most of the day though, even in winter.

SoyDora · 08/06/2018 15:17

Other things smelling doesn’t make smoking smell any less.
I was talking about the smell of my parents smoking when I was a child. Nothing class related about it, they are exactly the same class as me Confused (and are not at all poor).

SoyDora · 08/06/2018 15:18

I agree that petrol fumes and kebab shops smell offensive. This thread was very specifically about the smell of smoking though. If you want to start a thread about the smell of car fumes you are very welcome.

sugarbum · 08/06/2018 15:45

Smoke reeks. Smokers reek. I absolutely cannot understand how my DH put up with me when we first met as he has never smoked, yet up until I became pregnant I was chugging on 20 a day.

I didn't realise it was so bad, and because it was before the ban, I'd blame the stench on my surroundings (smokey pub, smokey nightclub, smokey bar) but it was just me being stinky :)

Grug · 08/06/2018 17:22

I work in a school and handle money. Some of the bank notes from some kids absolutely stink.

Its fucking vile.
