To wonder how many children you’d have, in an ideal world?

I’ve just had one and I can’t decide whether I’m done, or I want 20! 😁

If you didn’t have to worry about health, money, job, the pesky practicalities... How many children would you have (/had)? Why?

I’d have 5 (all boys preferably)
Can’t really afford any more than we have which makes me sad sometimes.

theSnuffster · 06/06/2018 15:58

I've got two, I'd have had one more in an ideal world and always said I'd have three. But I suffer from severe HG so i'd have to give up work and would also need someone who could take care of the children and house while I'm in hospital or too unwell to leave the house.

On top of that my son has ADHD which takes up a lot of time and causes lots of stress! Adding a newborn isn't going to make that easier.

We would also need a bigger house and bigger car, and enough money for me to stay off work for at least a few years like I did with the other two. Chances are I'd struggle massively to find a job like mine after all that time off (low pay but great working hours.)

theSnuffster · 06/06/2018 16:00

Oh and I had long/ difficult labours too, one ending in an emcs. But I don't think that alone would be enough to stop me having more.

thecatneuterer · 06/06/2018 16:02

None. (And luckily that's what I have)

ChikiTIKI · 06/06/2018 17:01

If I didn't have to work, 4.

I have one and like the idea of having another one soon, then waiting til they are in school and possibly doing the same again. Will probably just have one more though.

I am one of three and think 2 or 4 is better for getting along when younger. We all love eachother now though!

Mousefunky · 06/06/2018 17:03

I’m pregnant with my fourth. Two boys, two girls.

stevie69 · 06/06/2018 17:09

None Blush

TheMonkeyMummy · 06/06/2018 17:12

I always wanted four. And I got there (it wasn't easy!)

I have three boys and one girl. I love having a little tribe and they all get along 85% of the time.

speakout · 06/06/2018 17:21

Two.

It's not just about the money- it's about the attention they get.

interuptus · 06/06/2018 17:50

one.
The end of exhaustion and all round loss of self and powerlessness as a part time worker etc is in sight and I can give my all to my lovely DD.

ShesSoUnusual · 06/06/2018 18:02

I have 5. I love them all and wouldn't swap them etc etc, but it's TOO HARD. I currently have 2 teen DDs through and to be fair, they probably equate to about 90% of my stress. I'd have 2. I see people with 2 and it looks so easy now.

LoniceraJaponica · 06/06/2018 18:05

To anyone contemplating a large family I suggest you go over to the year 13 thread in education. Stress levels are really high just now.

1Potato2 · 06/06/2018 18:18

I wanted 2 dds. Got a dd and ds.

Very happy. Wouldn't change anything

CaveMaman · 06/06/2018 18:27

I'd love 3 but we can only afford one. He's the best thing that ever happened to me.

Namechangedname · 06/06/2018 18:28

I would have 8 x

Naynayba · 06/06/2018 18:30

  1. Just feels like a nice big family but manageable for me.

I've got one and unless something changes financially, which i hope it will, thats where i'll have to stick Sad

DwangelaForever · 06/06/2018 18:32

I would like 3 but I'm stopping at 2!

IlikemyTeahot · 06/06/2018 18:41

Only 1 haha I now have 3. I don't know which one I'd keep tbh they all have their lovely moments.
Dp wanted a 4th until I pointed out that as 2/3 dc have SEN issues it's not a risk I'm willing to take as only time will tell if it will end up being 3/3!

20brilliantcolours · 06/06/2018 18:43

4 or 5. I don't like 3 cos I am one of 3 and always think ones left out. Potentially.

And I would like more than 2.

But I have 0 just now so who knows

peasooper · 06/06/2018 19:03

In my ideal world I'd have a whole troop! Somewhere rural with loads of space and animals - and perfect pregnancies and births of course! I'd happily adopt a whole bundle too. It would be a bit like a cross between Little House on the Prairie, The Sound of Music and the Old Woman who Lived in a Shoe.

Looks like I won't be having any now though, and will not even be able to adopt, what with health and shit. It sucks :(

MrsCD67 · 06/06/2018 19:04

Ideally 5 or 6
But of course, things sometimes don't work out and money can often not stretch far so I'm not getting my hopes up! Any children would be a blessing

peasooper · 06/06/2018 19:06

By 'perfect' I obviously mean without any medical difficulties or complications for myself.

Heismyopendoor · 06/06/2018 19:08

5!

tomhazard · 06/06/2018 19:09
  1. But I have two and that's all we have space, money and time for.dh and I think about a third often but it wouldn't be fair on the two we have.
