To wonder how many children you’d have, in an ideal world?

I’ve just had one and I can’t decide whether I’m done, or I want 20! 😁

If you didn’t have to worry about health, money, job, the pesky practicalities... How many children would you have (/had)? Why?

2 but nature had another plan for me

underneaththeash · 06/06/2018 13:45

3, a d we have three. I'm one of three and there was always someone to play with.

Elementtree · 06/06/2018 13:54

I never knew how many children I wanted until we had two children and I wanted one more. Now I feel done in like my family is complete.

andon · 06/06/2018 14:00

Whirlytastic why was it so awful having your second?

Graut · 06/06/2018 14:02
  1. One per parent. I know it's just because they are still so young (3 and 10 months) but when I'm alone with them both there are a lot of awful moments where they are both crying about different things, or I am trying to get them both ready for bed at the same time and it just feels impossible. I already feel sorry for the little one because he is not getting nearly as much 1 on 1 time as the big one did when she was a baby.

At least when both of us parents are about we can (mostly) meet both their needs in a timely fashion. We are just not organised enough for a third child! And I know you said to ignore logistics but I am not sure if we could physically do any more laundry than we are already doing.

If I didn't have to actually bring them up, having loads of adult children sounds great. But 2 children is the family I have always wanted, I am so lucky to have got them.

Pompom42 · 06/06/2018 14:06

I have 2 children, I was the eldest of 2 growing up so to me 2 is a magic number. My Mum was from a 2 but my Dad was from a 5 - I know he'd have liked more.
BUT I absolutely love kids, everything about them and if I was younger I'd def have more. Probably 6

lynmilne65 · 06/06/2018 14:12

Debt3 you're awesome 😄

lynmilne65 · 06/06/2018 14:17

What a lovely thread 😃

I always said I didn't want children and then dd come along. She is our one and only but I would have loved to have 4.

halfwitpicker · 06/06/2018 14:49

4 - 2 girls, 2 boys.

Not gonna happen though, as we have no money and little support!!

Elspeth12345 · 06/06/2018 14:57

Three.

I'm getting older and don't have any though so I think three is unlikely.
I'd settle for one and love to have two.

TumbleTussocks · 06/06/2018 15:01

One daughter - the one I've got.

gottariskitforabiscuit · 06/06/2018 15:03

I'd have 6 😁 I currently have 3 beautiful children (2 boys & 1 girl) another boy & 2 more girls close in age/twins & one single/even triplets 😉 would be great 😌 They grow up so fast I love the baby stage, not so keen on the teenager stage atm though 🙈😂

BackByDopeDemand · 06/06/2018 15:03

3 - enough to be a little gang, but not overwhelming.

Had 2 and happy with that in reality.

Want2bSupermum · 06/06/2018 15:08

DH and I always said we wanted 4. After our 2nd was born his development didn't track and at 18 months he was significantly delayed developmentally. We decided to not have more at that point.

A year later we had a contraceptive failure and we had our 3rd. DH had the snip in April and was declared sterile last week.

HungryAndBoredInNeedOfChocolat · 06/06/2018 15:09

3 or 4,

CloudPop · 06/06/2018 15:28

I always wanted, and have, 2. Perfect for us.

DragonMummy1418 · 06/06/2018 15:29

If pregnancy wasn't hell then I'd have liked 3 or 4 but I can't go through it again so we're stopping at 2!

Cath2907 · 06/06/2018 15:30

One is fine by me!

CremeEggThief · 06/06/2018 15:34
  1. Boy and girl twins.

Not that different from my one and only DS.

WilliamLilliam · 06/06/2018 15:44

One

Icklepickle101 · 06/06/2018 15:47

I couldn’t decide if I wanted 1 or 2 but am 8 months pregnant with DC2 so this is definitely the last!

sprinklesandsauce · 06/06/2018 15:49

I had 1 DC. I would have liked to have had 2, in an ideal world without a difficult pregnancy, difficult labour, age, and an XH who left when DC was young.
