To ask you how often your children have a bath/shower?

I ask because my DDs age 11 and 9 have just come back from a week at their DF's and have only had ONE bath, no showers. My eldest has hit puberty so gets sweaty and spotty now and her hair gets very smelly too so has a shower every other day at home or daily if it's been very warm like the past weeks. The younger one isn't as keen but will still have a shower every other day. They do it themselves and I just dry their hair as they prefer me to do it.
My stbexh doesn't see a problem but this is a man who used to get his dirty nurses uniform out of the clothes hamper and iron it to wear again Envy(not envy).
I'm not a clean freak but they are doing swimming lessons, judo, horse riding, swimming in rivers, climbing trees and generally getting grubby like children should so I think they should have the opportunity to have showers more often than once a week. AIBU?

Surely daily is the norm? Showers take ten minutes

veggifriedbreakfast · 04/06/2018 10:21

Every other day usually

Mousefunky · 04/06/2018 10:23

Every other day but they are young so not in the throes of puberty, it’ll be daily when they are. Once in a week is gross.

TeacupTattoo · 04/06/2018 10:26

When I was growing up a lot of children had a Sunday night bath only. If you do it differently to your ex it's frustrating, my ex is lazy and my son is lazy when with him. I like them to have a shower each day and they choose to have a bath most weekends, with him it's never more than once a week and has been longer. He also doesn't change pyjamas/bedding regularly. Everybody is different, at least our children will experience a lot of variety. Sigh.

NotMyFinestMoment · 04/06/2018 10:26

Every single day and I have a 3 year old.

Merryoldgoat · 04/06/2018 10:27

Daily for 5 year old DS - every other day for baby (16 weeks) unless there’s been a poo ‘incident’.

Obviously we might miss the occasional one owing to various things but generally it’s every night for the elder.

They get so grubby at school I’m not sure how every other day would be adequate.

PartyAnxiety · 04/06/2018 10:28

I think once a week is enough for a young child - (more often if they've got muddy or sandy or been swimming) most do more often just for the bedtime routine. The older child should definitely be showering more often than once a week though. I would say everyday once they hit puberty.

4dogs · 04/06/2018 10:30

Shower every other day for me and dd(10).

happymummy12345 · 04/06/2018 10:31

Every day usually. I admit there are the odd days when ds has been shattered so I've skipped his bath that evening and bathed him the next morning instead. But usually daily.

MyDcAreMarvel · 04/06/2018 10:31

My little ones only have a bath once a week unless particularly dirty. Just far too late in the week. They are aged between 3-7, teenagers shower when they want to I don’t keep track.

kitkatsky · 04/06/2018 10:33

DD6 has one bath and one shower per week. Kids her age don't sweat or smell badly- if she did I would obviously ask her to wash more! I think kids from 9-10 up need to wash at least every other day though. I wouldn't worry unduly about this tho- the eldest is getting to an age where she'll manage her own hygiene rather than go out with greasy hair or BO

Namechangeforhair · 04/06/2018 10:33

My 10 year old has a shower every day and uses deodrant.

MeMeMeow85 · 04/06/2018 10:34

My toddler showers every morning with me and then I bath him every night. It’s fun play time and also, he’s running around and getting covered in sand and paint etc.

I only bath my newborn every third day, but wash him with warm water and cotton wool every day

megletthesecond · 04/06/2018 10:36

11 and 9yrs here. Showers 6 / 7 days week now. Sometimes have a Saturday off if they've just been taking it easy. But from now on tbh it'll be every day in summer.

DrWhy · 04/06/2018 10:36

Toddler gets a bath pretty much every evening unless he’s fallen asleep on the way home from somewhere and been put straight into his cot. He comes home from nursery covered in mud, sand, grass and paint all stuck to suncream, he then covers his face and hands and occasionally hair in dinner. Older children won’t have the food issue but I wouldn’t want to go to bed sticky and grubby, I don’t see why they would. Toddler DS then often has a generally unnecessary morning shower as DH and I shower at the same time (different bathrooms!) and the easiest way to contain DS safely is in the shower with one of us.

tigercub50 · 04/06/2018 10:38

DD9 is a bit hit & miss tbh but on average it’s at least twice a week & more likely to be a shower

MrsBertBibby · 04/06/2018 10:38

At those ages we were moving from every other day to daily, because puberty arrived in a fug of stench with the older step.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 04/06/2018 10:41

DD has awful eczema so only has 1-2 baths a week with her medicated lotion in.
The other 3 kids ranging from 5-13 have 3-4 baths or showers a week, our water bill would be huge if we were all bathing everyday and our shower can be a bit temperamental at best. A good strip wash in the sink twice a day and clean clothes everyday is sufficient.

MollyDaydream · 04/06/2018 10:43

Mine are under 8 and have about 3 baths a week.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 04/06/2018 10:45

DS 6 every 3 days, DD 10 every day and after PE day.

CatLadyToddlerMother · 04/06/2018 10:46

3-4 times a week for DD but she's not even 3 yet, more often if she gets mud/paint/food in her hair

BetterEatCheese · 04/06/2018 10:47

Dd (7) has a bath or shower twice a week after her dance activities. She's not sweaty yet so any more isn't necessary unless she gets physically dirty from playing out

Strawberrybelly · 04/06/2018 10:47

Dd gets bathed or showered most days because she is always filthy and sticky from suncream. I would prefer her not to have one daily because it sets of her eczema but I don't like her going to bed grubby.

Cutesbabasmummy · 04/06/2018 10:47

Every night for my 3 year old son and a wipe over in the morning, hair washed twice a week. DH and I have a shower every morning. I'm really shocked that people only bath their kids once a week!!

madamginger · 04/06/2018 10:47

We’ve just swapped from 3 times a week to every day. They are all running about getting sweaty and are covered in sun cream most days, we also have a 10 foot pool which is chlorinated and they need to wash that off.
DD is 11 and starting to get spotty and greasy so she needs to bathe daily now anyway.
