To ask you how often your children have a bath/shower?

I ask because my DDs age 11 and 9 have just come back from a week at their DF's and have only had ONE bath, no showers. My eldest has hit puberty so gets sweaty and spotty now and her hair gets very smelly too so has a shower every other day at home or daily if it's been very warm like the past weeks. The younger one isn't as keen but will still have a shower every other day. They do it themselves and I just dry their hair as they prefer me to do it.
My stbexh doesn't see a problem but this is a man who used to get his dirty nurses uniform out of the clothes hamper and iron it to wear again Envy(not envy).
I'm not a clean freak but they are doing swimming lessons, judo, horse riding, swimming in rivers, climbing trees and generally getting grubby like children should so I think they should have the opportunity to have showers more often than once a week. AIBU?

Every other day usually but there lots of exceptions which mean they end up having one every day some weeks.

donajimena · 04/06/2018 14:57

I do stress this is pretty disgusting. But I choose my battles.

hungryhippie · 04/06/2018 15:02

My two, aged 2 and 3 get a bath when they are dirty/sweaty. That can be every day depending on whether they have been playing with their food, messing in dirt or had sun cream on.
Sometimes they can get away with twice a week.
I dont schedule in baths, they have one if they need one.

Scrumptiousbears · 04/06/2018 15:12

I have 2 and 4 year old DDs. Roughly every other day for us but in hot weather or if they are in a mess from nursery then as and when

Nicpem1982 · 04/06/2018 15:15

Every day but my 3yr old is feral

sparklepops123 · 04/06/2018 15:16

My 12 yr old- every day. Takes half an hour to get him in and half hour to get out!

maamalady · 04/06/2018 16:04

About 2-3 times a week, aged 2 and 3. They also go swimming once or twice a week, where they have a shower after.

bonnyshide · 04/06/2018 16:06

My 14yo & 16yo bath or shower daily they always have done since babies

WittyJack · 04/06/2018 16:07

2 year old - once or twice a day, depending on what she's been up to. She also gets hosed down most nights in this weather "giving the thirsty flowers a drink".

Newborn every 3 days at the moment.

Allyg1185 · 04/06/2018 16:18

Shower or bath everyday and that includes hair

m0therofdragons · 04/06/2018 16:18

Twice a week for 6yo and 3 times for 10yo with lots of reminders!

PuffinsSitOnMuffins · 04/06/2018 16:24

8 and 4 - bath every night and always have done.

alwaysthepessimist · 04/06/2018 16:27

DD 6 has either a bath or shower everyday unless she is exceptionally tired or we are out late but 6 out of 7 days at a minimum, if she is really tired a quick shower will suffice but my child is a muck magnet so getting away with every other day is hard work!

glueandstick · 04/06/2018 16:34

Toddler has a bath twice a week. It’s a clean animal and hates mucky hands. No food in hair in this household!

CoperCabana · 04/06/2018 16:52

Someone else just beat me to the water meter comment!

Can’t believe someone upthread has bathed their three every night since they brought them home from hospital! That makes me feel entirely inadequate!

Fatted · 04/06/2018 16:56

In this heat it's a quick shower most days. They're outside playing and getting mucky and covered in sun cream. They have a soak in the tub every week. They're 5 and 3.

0lgaDaPolga · 04/06/2018 17:07

My 1 year old has a bath every other day. I remember only getting a bath once a week as a child though which I think was more normal back then than it is now

Leoparda · 04/06/2018 17:18

9 & 11 - Once a week, but they have a daily wash (face/neck/underarms), like I did growing up.

DS is autistic and getting him in the shower is a fucking nightmare, and we don't have a bath... its not a hill i'm willing to die on... especially as I have to wash him too.

DD is getting better at doing herself, but still can't wash her own hair, so I have to do that.

Leoparda · 04/06/2018 17:20

BTW, how the fuck do you get them to wash their own hair?

Having had DS first, and still having to do EVERYTHING about his shower myself, i'm actually really struggling to teach DD to wash her own hair.. she freaks if she gets shampoo on her face.

Beginning to wonder if she's dyspraxic like DS is tbh.

ColourfulOrangex · 04/06/2018 17:36

Every other day for 7 year old and 11 month old although the baby will sometimes go 3

When they get to puberty it'll be every day

Savvyandchips · 05/06/2018 19:14

Every 2nd night for my 4 and 1 year olds ...every night is just too time consuming! But yep to every day once puberty hits!

SuperMumTum · 05/06/2018 19:44

DS (3) and DD (almost 7) bath together every other night when they're with me but their dad almost never baths them because he's lazy. DD is moving towards preferring showers and wanting some privacy in the bathroom so perhaps she'll start sorting herself out at her Dad's soon?

SuperMumTum · 05/06/2018 19:47

Leoparda my nearly 7 year old DD does her own very long hair pretty well. She's very careful about getting water in her eyes but can do it while I'm sorting out her brother. She knows that to keep her hair long she needs to learn to look after it otherwise she'll be getting a bob next time we're at the hairdressers.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 05/06/2018 19:55

Every other day for 7 year old.

User09876543321126 · 05/06/2018 20:12

Every day.
