To ask you how often your children have a bath/shower?

I ask because my DDs age 11 and 9 have just come back from a week at their DF's and have only had ONE bath, no showers. My eldest has hit puberty so gets sweaty and spotty now and her hair gets very smelly too so has a shower every other day at home or daily if it's been very warm like the past weeks. The younger one isn't as keen but will still have a shower every other day. They do it themselves and I just dry their hair as they prefer me to do it.
My stbexh doesn't see a problem but this is a man who used to get his dirty nurses uniform out of the clothes hamper and iron it to wear again Envy(not envy).
I'm not a clean freak but they are doing swimming lessons, judo, horse riding, swimming in rivers, climbing trees and generally getting grubby like children should so I think they should have the opportunity to have showers more often than once a week. AIBU?

From birth to about 8 years old it was every day.

8 to 10 years it was every other day I think.

Now they are 11, 15 and 15 its every day again, as they smell bad. (All boys). The 15 year old boys often shower multiple times a day, which I have to blank my mind about..... Grin

MumofBoysx2 · 04/06/2018 10:49

Usually a shower every other day (they usually choose showers over baths) unless they have been getting hot and sweaty. Oldest is 10 so soon I will suggest he has a shower daily.

notacooldad · 04/06/2018 10:52

My two lads have showered at twice a day since they were 8 and 9 and often more when they got older with no promoting from us.
When DS2 hit puberty he really did smell and was quite self conscious and would have a shower when he got home.p from school.

Both boys have always played sports that made them sweaty ( ice hockey, mountain biking, running, etc , one of them does triathlons now) and they both have heavy work jobs. One is agriculture based and the other son does a lot of installations in hot offices and buildings.
Both have always taken pride in their appearance since early teens ( face masks, moisturiser, expensive cologne etc) so I have put up with the loads of showers to keep the peace!

Bath night in our house for kids is sun, Tues, Thurs.

They use their own fannels every morning after teeth brushing to do under arms /face/bottom parts.

I would bath every night but they all have eczema so use special wash every morning with the fannels.
And special wash in the bath.
Ages 4/6/7/8

ReverseGiraffe · 04/06/2018 10:56

We’ve just upped it to every day from every other day for 5yo did. In fairness, she is a sweaty child and still wears pull ups at night, so I hate the idea of her feeling uncomfortable.

formerbabe · 04/06/2018 10:58

Everyday

QueenOfMyWorld · 04/06/2018 10:58

Every day usually sometimes every other

stargirl1701 · 04/06/2018 11:01

Once a week - aged 5 and 3.

Zoflorabore · 04/06/2018 11:02

Ds (15) has a shower every morning before school and often after the gym aswell.
He is spotless :)

Dd (7) is a bit of a scruff but either I or dp shower her every night before bed and sometimes she will jump in the shower with me of a morning for a quick wash before school as sometimes easier as she has natural corkscrew curls and wakes up like Tina Turner.

When they were little, it was a nightly bath from the day they were born. I love seeing clean kids all ready for bed.
Always used as part of a routine and mine both slept through from the start I'm getting payback now though

No excuse for dirty children unless ill.
That's the only time mine would ever skip a bath/shower.

NataliaOsipova · 04/06/2018 11:06

Every day....sometimes twice in the holidays! They're 9 and 6. Every night.....and, as I love a bath in the morning, they'll always jump at the chance to get in with me then too. I must admit, two baths a day is one of my favourite luxuries, so I think they've got the bug from me.

formerbabe · 04/06/2018 11:06

Once a week seems a bit grim.

00100001 · 04/06/2018 11:07

Twice a year. On his birthday and Christmas

NordicNobody · 04/06/2018 11:08

We give our toddler a bath every night but we just use water and a wash cloth, not soap. It's more for "the routine" really, although we do go to the swimming pool most days. We wash his hair with shampoo once a week. His eczema flairs up quite easily so I don't want to use soap more often than I have to.

Lonelycrab · 04/06/2018 11:09

Daily bath here, hair 3/4 times a week. Sometimes go without for a day though, depending on how mucky he’s been. 6 yo ds.

NClikecrazy · 04/06/2018 11:10

Daily for bath or shower, hair wash once weekly or after sports/swimming.

Jimdandy · 04/06/2018 11:12

This get asked a lot on here. Daily. I know this will offend some but bathing kids once a week is so gross.

butlerswharf · 04/06/2018 11:12

Every day

Timeissliplingaway · 04/06/2018 11:13

Just like OP every other day usually but if it's very warm, they have been sweating, or dirty from playing etc then everyday. Mine are younger thoigh so at those ages though probably everyday.

BarbarianMum · 04/06/2018 11:14

Ds1 is 12 and entering puberty but no smell yet. He showers once a day/once every 2 days and hairwash every 5 days or so. Once puberty really gets going it'll be showers daily.

Ds1 is 10. Showers once every 2 or 3 days, hair wash once a week.

kaytee87 · 04/06/2018 11:15

Toddler ds has a bath every night, he gets filthy playing outside and rubbing food in his hair etc.

hugitout10 · 04/06/2018 11:15

daily, part of a bedtime routine.

Queenofthestress · 04/06/2018 11:15

Every night for the 4 year old and every other night for the 16 month old due to her eczema with a medicated wash, anymore than that for her and she starts looking like a dragon because her skin peels & gets scaley patches

kaytee87 · 04/06/2018 11:16

Why didn't your 11yo just have another bath if she wanted one?

BarryTheKestrel · 04/06/2018 11:17

DD is 3 and has a bath/shower every other day ish. At the moment she's outside a lot or at the beach so will have a quick rinse off in the shower when she gets home to get all the sand off or whatever, but usually every other day at least.

At that age surely they are old enough to take a shower/bath alone or at least ask for one. If they are in the habit of having one daily or every other day it's weird that they wouldn't. One bath in a week full of activities for a sweaty preteen is not good.

Steeley113 · 04/06/2018 11:21

Every night for all 3 of mine from the day they get home from hospital. Babies are in nappies and dribble milk so need a good wash daily, toddlers/young kids should be outside getting lucky or have been at playgroup/School so need a good wash too! I don’t understand people who bath them less Envy
