To stockpile food, medicine and petrol?

So apparently we're now at very high risk of exiting the EU in March without a trade agreement with the EU. The government wanted to keep it secret, but it's been leaked that the middle of the 3 outcomes they're discussing, so not the bad one, is the port of Dover collapsing on day 1, immediate food shortages and almost immediate petrol and medicine shortages - as in, no food in the supermarkets. It's in the Sunday Times. AIBU to start stockpiling?

Well I'm stockpiling malt whisky in case the Scots get their 2nd referendum and leave the UK.

Drink some now- you will need the part empty bottles for fire bomb to defend your casa.

Well this thread is enlightening.
Don't we still be in the free skies agreement with the rest of the world?

I have a hot air balloon and my DP have a small boat.

We will smuggle you to Ireland or Belgium in return for a bag of pasta.

It’s not a bad idea to buy ammo cans from your nearest army surplus store, load them with supplies, then bury them in a few different locations.

That way, if looters force you from your home you have a backup.

ilovesooty · 04/06/2018 01:28

I'd rather top myself than live in a world like that.

Weedsnseeds1 · 04/06/2018 01:28

I have always horded food. Not sure why, we never went short as children.
My mother is the world's worst cook and I learned how to make tasty meals as a defense mechanism.
I am dreading Brexit, personally.

Hoarded

Formula baby milk tins. Sealed with a bit of duck tape.

They spelt bail wrong. Whether accidently on purpose.

Proof you shouldn't trust them.

siwel123 · 04/06/2018 01:32

I will do half a bag of pasta and a bottle of wine?

Kursk · 04/06/2018 01:33

Moleskinediary

Yes that will work as well, any waterproof container.

I think most weed is already sourced through the blackmarket. You should be ok, however if we lose power the cannabis hothouses may have to shut down- so maybe plant your own now.

Seeds- more variable. Sunflowers under threat I would think and as for tulip bulbs- doesn't bear thinking about.

Each to their own, you have been lunch to live in a stable society. But things change, and it happens fast. Just ask the people of Syria, Venezuela, Yugoslavia and Ukraine

MollyWantsACracker · 04/06/2018 01:41

The reality is that nobody knows what will happen. The least likely scenario is that the sky will fall in. The most likely is that things will get a bit shit.
Farage made sure of his family passports. I can’t understand why you’re all not petitioning the Queen or something.

siwel123 · 04/06/2018 01:45

Petition for what?
I voted remain but know many who did leave and simply we're going to leave one way or another be it crashing out or gracefully as there would be an uproar if brexit didn't happen.

Moleskinediary · 04/06/2018 01:48

How much do you think she has hoarded? I know that she has 6 homes and I imagine they all have a cellar.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 04/06/2018 01:52

hate brexit soooo much but there's no U-boats out there, there won't be WW2 rationing. Things will just be more expensive.

Moleskinediary · 04/06/2018 01:56

Damm it , I have 2000 pairs of silk stockings ready to go.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 04/06/2018 02:01

Stockpiling is a sensible thing to do in any event.

For when eg you have a financially difficult time you weren’t expecting. Bad weather stops you going out/supplies coming in. You are ill and can’t face leaving the house.

You can take advantage of offers.

Keeping a stockpile to an extent you are happy with is imminently sensible imo.

Two rules I’d suggest: check use by dates regularly. Eat them up before they expire and replace. Only buy things you actually want to eat. No point having 50 tins of baked beans if you hate them.

Include dry goods like loo rolls.

If people really are expecting a problem in March, it would ease the problem if everyone had sensibly stockpiled to some extent. There is plenty of time to build up a supply between now and then.

Havabiscuit · 04/06/2018 02:04

Would there though? I think it’s unlikely. Vast majority of Leave voters are old, they don’t riot! They have bad knees.
Also, so many now are a bit scared as it’s not working out as promised. I think they would all grumble and say they “ have been betrayed by the remoaners but not do much”.

Moleskinediary · 04/06/2018 02:11

They have bad knees.

Which will only get worse as replacement knee caps are an import.

And of course no doctors or nurses to fit them.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 04/06/2018 02:15

Are replacement knees an import? It’s about time they weren’t if that’s the case.

Weedsnseeds1 · 04/06/2018 02:15

@moleskinediary not bothered about that sort of weed for myself, but could be a valuable bartering commodity, thanks for the heads up!

pinkgirl1234 · 04/06/2018 02:44

We have nerf? We have both water pistol and plastic bullet type. I will get the children practising defending the entrance points. I think the 3 year old can manage the nerf pistol.

Proper laughed out loud at that. Grin

And the zombies! Grin

I've got dried fusilli, passata and red wine. But I'm in NZ so not much help. I'm fascinated by Brexit though. I didn't think it would happen and was disappointed when it did. Even though it's none of my business really!
