To stockpile food, medicine and petrol?

So apparently we're now at very high risk of exiting the EU in March without a trade agreement with the EU. The government wanted to keep it secret, but it's been leaked that the middle of the 3 outcomes they're discussing, so not the bad one, is the port of Dover collapsing on day 1, immediate food shortages and almost immediate petrol and medicine shortages - as in, no food in the supermarkets. It's in the Sunday Times. AIBU to start stockpiling?

Wow!

lostinsunshine · 05/06/2018 13:14

That's what the Leave vote did to my compassion, @OneHourTwentyFourMinutes .

DGRossetti · 05/06/2018 13:16

The point of being a prepped is to protect yourself and be ready to deal with any issues that affect your family.

What weapons are you packing ?

OneHourTwentyFourMinutes · 05/06/2018 13:16

Why would a lack of food and drugs require a composting loo? ShockConfused

OneHourTwentyFourMinutes · 05/06/2018 13:17

What weapons are you packing ?

The contents of their loo?

IIIustriousIyIIlogical · 05/06/2018 13:18

I'm stockpiling money - because if you think that European countries will stop selling us all that lovely delicious food & drink you're mad!

Feck all will change, but why miss the chance to have a bit of a panic.

You can sit there chomping through your garage full of "emergency" rations for the next 12 months, I'll be eating the same food I am now......

lostinsunshine · 05/06/2018 13:18

If there is a power outage or shortage, you have to consider the possibility that water and sewage is affected.
Hope it won't be. Prepped if it is.

@OneHourTwentyFourMinutes

So nobody who is serious is organising a local community Brexit food bank?

Most Preppers prep for themselves and their family. There are some communities that prep together to share the load, which is a good thing. In a village this would be the perfect set up.

In a city or town, simply it won’t work. The food bank would be looted day 1.

IIIustriousIyIIlogical · 05/06/2018 13:20

Everyone has the opportunity to prep.

My preparation may also be to identify which of my neighbours are storing food & when the Brexocalypse happens I'll just go and take it from them...... Grin

lostinsunshine · 05/06/2018 13:20

@IIIustriousIyIIlogical , if you are stockpiling cash, you make yourself a target. If you are relying on the bank being operative, just look at the recent Visa and TSB nonsense.

IIIustriousIyIIlogical · 05/06/2018 13:22

Given the amount of people on here who were bitching that some of us would like shops to shut on a Sunday, I seriously doubt any of you "MN Preppers" would manage to go more than a week anyway......

lostinsunshine · 05/06/2018 13:22

And@IIIustriousIyIIlogical , if you try to steal, you will take the consequences. Immediately or if you are a looter/burglar. Normal service will be restored including rule of law and your actions will catch up with you.

I actually want to cry. We are page FUCKING 30 of this and some utter numpty is still coming out with 'they won't stop selling it to us'.

No. They won't stop selling it to us. But it won't get through the ports!

Jesus fucking wept.

Kursk · 05/06/2018 13:23

What weapons are you packing ?

You should never tell anyone that you prep, if you do you are a target for looters. Therefore you need a weapon that you are comfortable with. Knives, bats, clubs are all legal in the UK.

I moved to the US and now have several guns in different locations around the house

OneHourTwentyFourMinutes · 05/06/2018 13:23

I guess I will have to use the garden water and a bucket for a day or two if the power goes out, then walk to my local church and barter there with others or do you plan on mugging everyone at Church?

IIIustriousIyIIlogical · 05/06/2018 13:24

if you are stockpiling cash, you make yourself a target.

I was being sarky....

I shall continue to live my life as normal, worst case scenario I shall intimidate someone else & steal all their supplies, chucking a match in their garage full of fuel on my way out..... Wink

The pound is going to be worth the square root of fuck all! Don’t store cash buy gold

OneHourTwentyFourMinutes · 05/06/2018 13:27

I still don't understand the compost loo, a bucket of water will flush the standard loo for you.

Don't buy gold buy fags and alcohol- bartering!

TheElementsSong · 05/06/2018 13:27

Here in MN a "non-prepping" pledge by Brexiteers would be fun. Meaningless, but fun.

Indeed Smile Which is why I find it so fascinating that, despite confident assertions of how nothing negative could possibly happen, nobody has yet pledged to Not Prepare. Like it’s some weird psychological step too far - fine to dismiss concerns as hysteria, fine to berate others for undermining confidence by typing stuff about preparation, but not fine to patriotically boost said confidence by typing stuff about non-preparation?

It’s not hard is it? Type the usual thing about hysteria, then type something like “I swear not to save so much as a grain of rice or tin of beans, to keep my freezer empty, to have less than 1/4 tank of petrol, and less than £10 cash - thus will I demonstrate my unswerving certainty that there will be not an iota of disruption post-Brexit”. Ta-dah! Patriotic True BeLeaving Positive Public Leadership Duty done!

Then you can log off, and hoard sacks of flour in your cellar without anybody knowing.

OneHourTwentyFourMinutes · 05/06/2018 13:28

Will you bring your weights and eye wear to the bartering sessions and Gold swaps?

lostinsunshine · 05/06/2018 13:28

Ageism and sexism @IIIustriousIyIIlogical as well as theft. What a lovely person you are!
