To use the same towel all week

Is that disgusting?

We use the same towels all week and wash them once a week on a Sunday. I thought this was fine until someone told me they change their towels every day.

I use mine for three showers then wash it.

starsuniteonceagain · 02/06/2018 14:54

I change my towels twice a week.

DarlingNikita · 02/06/2018 14:54

Mine go for weeks sometimes!

I hang them on the ceiling airer and they get aired out after each use.

Nothisispatrick · 02/06/2018 14:58

It's fine, you're clean when you use it and then it's hung up to dry.

I don't have a set schedule for when I wash mine, just when they need it or if I find them in the spare room from DPs morning shower all crumpled up and been there for god knows how long.

Always amazed that so many MNers have such a set rota on when they clean/wash stuff.

crunchymint · 02/06/2018 14:58

So changing daily, a family of 4 would use 28 towels a week. That is just crazy.

pigsDOfly · 02/06/2018 15:02

I probably change mine about every 4/5 days - use 2 for showering. They seem to stop drying properly after that time.

One of my DDs used to put hers in the washing basket after each use when she lived at home. Used to drive me crazy and was the cause of several arguments as they looked like they'd just come out of the cupboard.

I've notice now she has her own home and DCs she doesn't do that any more.

Yes but when you use the towel you're sloughing off skin cells that cling to the towel.
I used to wash towels after one use because of this but it's ridiculous to waste that much energy.

EdWinchester · 02/06/2018 15:06

We change ours every other day, so weekly seems a bit too long. I like a nice fresh towel.

Olddear · 02/06/2018 15:08

Clean bath towels every day. Hand towels changed every second day. All washed weekly. 2 in the household.

abigailsnan · 02/06/2018 15:15

We have 2 bath towels each which I wash twice a week and hand towels which I change 2/3 times depending on freshness.

BBCONEANDTWO · 02/06/2018 15:17

I tend to wash them when they smell - they defo don't need changing every day

bridgetosomewhere · 02/06/2018 15:17

The kids use theirs once, dh uses his for a few days and I change mine after every 2 days

UnsalariedPost · 02/06/2018 15:22

One bath towel each - washed after a week, or longer if they still smell fresh. Known here as the towel smell test.

theunsure · 02/06/2018 15:28

Weekly here, they go on a heated towel rail so dry and don’t smell. We have giant towels, I don’t like little ones.
Kitchen hand towels get changed more often though.

AnneProtheroe · 02/06/2018 15:33

Hand towels changed every 3 days, bath towels weekly. Tea towels daily.

ltk · 02/06/2018 15:37

Washed weekly. The call goes out on Saturday morning and all must bring their sheets and towels to the kitchen for washing. Last one there starts the first load (motivating for lazy teens).

robotcartrainhat · 02/06/2018 15:39

I just change mine if they smell or are too wet to dry okay on the towel rail.

whathaveiforgottentoday · 02/06/2018 15:44

Weekly wash here. Have about 6 towels on the go for family of 4 (2 towels for body and hair!).
Hang them up to dry (except my almost teen who likes to leave them in a wet pile).

Moononthehill28 · 02/06/2018 15:44

Nothing enraged me more than hotels which replace ALL the towels every day. It’s just so unnecessary. I wash ours every week .

Aquamarine1029 · 02/06/2018 16:03

My husband and I use ours for 3 days, and hang them to dry properly after each use. A new towel every day is just wasteful and unnecessary.

barleyfive · 02/06/2018 16:06

As long as there is somewhere to dry them between uses not a problem at all!

Inbedbyeight · 03/06/2018 00:55

Change after about 2 uses, I would love to get more use out of them before having to wash them but ours start to smell pretty dirty after 2, I really don’t know why! What do people do to keep them fresh for longer?

BackToTheFuschia7 · 03/06/2018 01:08

Pretty sure I read somewhere that towels should be changed after 3 uses. You are clean when you come out the shower but still lose dead skin cells when drying off, and bacteria loves a warm, damp towel.

happymummy12345 · 03/06/2018 01:12

Forgot to add, we hang them up to dry after every use, so they don't smell.
The hand towel is changed once a week. Tea towels are changed when needed.
