I think they are ugly and make women/girls look ridiculous. AIBU?

Bert

It’s pretty obviously to anyone that societal norms put most women into a position where they have to meet expectations.

But Jacques knows that, she’s just being a GF

bringincrazyback · 02/06/2018 16:55

Matter of taste, I love them BUT not when women wear them a size too large so they won't pinch, or whyever they do that. They do look silly then, like a little girl walking round in her mum's shoes.

Got to say I think accusations like sold out to the patriarchy are offensive. Ever stop to think that women have minds of their own and just might be choosing a specific shoe style because they like it? I thought society had moved past the days when you had to be sporting Birkenstocks and hairy toes in order to be considered a 'proper' feminist.

CantankerousCamel · 02/06/2018 16:56

Special

Models actually tend to have awful feet because of constant heel wearing so they use other people for foot work.

rosylea · 02/06/2018 16:57

Misogyny …the "in" word. Used for everything now. Completely lost its meaning!

gillybeanz · 02/06/2018 16:58

A lot of clothes look better with heels . I am as envious as anything of those that can wear them.
It's so hard to get the right look in lots of things without them.
I want to wear a nice dress when my dc gets married. It's going to look shit with flats. Sad

BertrandRussell · 02/06/2018 16:59

"I like to wear make up sometimes. I never have to."

Good for you. A lot of women don't find it easy to stand up against societal expectations. Very few of us, I suspect, would go to our wedding, or to an awards ceremony or to a work event where we were going to be photographed without any make up T all.

CantankerousCamel · 02/06/2018 16:59

bring
I’ve not seen any personal accusations like the one you’ve bolded and only women making social judgements and other women insisting they’re personal. They’re not. Wanting to change a society that dictates what women wear (especially when it causes them life long impairment) and how they groom (especially when it blurs the line of puberty) is different to blaming women for following social norms.

I don’t blame women at all. I blame society

Freaklikemeee · 02/06/2018 16:59

If some daft women want to hobble their feet in painful and damaging shoes that they can barely walk in, in order to please men, that’s their choice. Rather like Victorian whalebone corsets, or foot binding- it’s a useful identifier for idiots who have sold out to the patriarchy!

Amen to that.
You might as well wear a sign saying "pushover".

specialsubject · 02/06/2018 16:59

so when models clump down the catwalk it isnt them? am I watching cgi news reports?

twisted feet in heels are horrible, I agree. foot binding for the lady gaga generation.

BertrandRussell · 02/06/2018 17:00

"Misogyny …the "in" word. Used for everything now. Completely lost its meaning!"

Nope. Still means misogyny!

CantankerousCamel · 02/06/2018 17:00

No I mean they have special foot models because clothes models have damaged feet from their work

BertrandRussell · 02/06/2018 17:01

"Got to say I think accusations like sold out to the patriarchy are offensive"
Yes, that could be very offensive. Who said it and when?

Freaklikemeee · 02/06/2018 17:01

Nobody "likes" having their feet and joints tormented. Women wear high heels only because they are under the delusion that they make them look more attractive/acceptable in some way. Again, on a par with corsets!

LassWiADelicateAir · 02/06/2018 17:02

And then I married a man shorter than me. I've spent most of my adult life trying to minimize the appearance of my height, not add to it

Seneca did you see James Blunt and Sophia Wellesley at the Royal wedding? They both look great !

KittenBeast · 02/06/2018 17:04

Good grief, this just gets better. Every woman who shaves their pits is doing so for men, because all men like pre-pubescent girls, obvs.

I learn something new every day on mumsnet.

I did see that, Lass. I loved her dress. That hat adds a few inches as well.Smile

Why else would women (not men) shave their armpits and legs?

BertrandRussell · 02/06/2018 17:11

"MN, particularly FWR, is full of women saying (boasting ?) they never wear dresses, never wear anything feminine"
I honestly don't think I have ever heard anyone say anything of the sort!

LassWiADelicateAir · 02/06/2018 17:12

And the opposite of heels isn't automatically ballet flats. There are great well supported heels/ flats out there without going to the extremes

I have a wide variety of shoes from ballet flats to I think only one pair now of 4 inch heels. These are my only pair of Manolo Blahnik (3 inch) They are far more comfortable than my almost unwearable Doc Marten's.

Babdoc, start of the thread.

CantankerousCamel · 02/06/2018 17:13

Lass

For Docs to be comfy you’ve got to do a weekend of drinking your way through the pain with a lot of micropore :D then they fit for the rest of your life

LassWiADelicateAir · 02/06/2018 17:13

Are you joking? It gets said all the time.

KittenBeast · 02/06/2018 17:13

So you really are saying it's because at the heart of it, all men are paedophiles?

I know anecdotes are frowned upon, but I genuinely can't stand the feel of hair on my legs, especially when they brush together. I look at my OH and wonder how he could possibly stand to have such a lot of i hair all over his body, it would drive me insane. But again, I suppose that is because I am a week and feeble female.
